2011's song has a sad backstory - so originally the song was gonna be performed by a man named Sjonni Brink who tragically died unexpectedly right before the Icelandic National Final. His friends decided to get together and perform the song at the NF in his honor. I believe it was originally gonna be in Icelandic but I can understand why they decided to go with English in retrospect.
The 1996 one (sjúbídú) wasn’t picked because it was the best song, singer was just asked to write a song for the contest and this is what she came up with, so this was the only song in the running😅
Minn Hinsti Dans 1997 is one of my top 10 songs ever in Eurovision, I think it has to be experienced in full from start to finish, a clip doesn’t do it justice
It was actually one of the first songs in Eurovision to have a beat on tape over the orchestra - at that time each and every song had a full blown symphonic orchestra with a conductor, playing the music. Páll Óskar is such an underrated gem to Eurovision, he changed everything!

Great video! Can't wait for Finland!
My villain origin story is the 2012 entry only coming 20th and then not qualifying in 2016, justice for greta!! Would be so fun if Iceland won one day
Is Slovakia on the road? Can't wait!

its sad that 2020 didnt have a copetition because iceland was predicted to win :(
Still don’t know how Greta didn’t qualify in 2916
