Well done!!! I had bee wondering if anyone had posted a Kuksa from basswood. Since I live where there are no birch burls, I will see what I can do with basswood as well. Thank you for a very inspiring post.
you prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times then you can stream all the new movies on Instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of months :)
Yeah that was outstanding mate. The trick with the clamping was great but better was the use of painters tape on the thumb. I need to make one of these using simple tools...
Very nice mug, Dimitris. This is a project that I have wanted to do for a while, maybe this will inspire me to do so. I like your sanding jig on the lathe, very clever.
Nice looking end result on the cup. I think you would benefit from getting either a double edge or Left handed hook knife. It appeared to be very difficult for you to use the right handed one 😕
I don't know I am actually left handed. But I don't like to complain about the tools. I use what I got. I have found over the years that everything is a matter of practice. So hopefully in future I will be better! But I would love to get a double edge at some point!
@@ScrapwoodCity No worries I understand completely. When I was growing up my father had a few left handed tools since he was lefthanded. I remember having a difficult time driving some nails one day and I told him it was because he only owned Lefthanded Hammers!!! 😆 🤣
another great work from you! May I ask a simple question? WHat;s the name of the curving tool that you used to create the main curve, the one before the "παστραγγουλο"

Lots of work, nothing wrong with that when you get a beautiful result like you have.

@Lyle Vivaan Yup, been watching on instaflixxer for since december myself :D
Always, allways a treat. I especially liked the little temporary clamp arrangement - very clever. Thanks mate.
Thanks Mark, glad you liked the little trick!
Amazing craftsmanship, TY for sharing!
Thank you
Looks great, a hybrid Kuksa. Thanks for showing us. Take care.
Thank you
A lot of hard work and a beautiful result. Well done Dimitri. I do like the initiative ways you held the cup and the sanding.
Thank you Peter

Indeed there is!
LARRY FISHER
Sound of a spokeshave too!
I've always wanted to do a Kuksa but I don't have the curve carving blade. Love it! You did an awesome job :)

Very beautiful ! What's the use of this mug ?
Thank you! For drinking and eating I guess!
What brand files are you using.
They are Bahco! Good quality for their money!
What type of wood are you using if you don't mind me asking
basswood
Μπραβο τελειο πολυ ωραια κατασκευη
Σε ευχαριστώ φίλε μου
Great video Dimitri! Does Basswood add any flavor to your drink?
Thank you. Actually it does add a nice woody flavor!

Δεν είμαι σίγουρος ποιο εννοείς, πες μου ακριβώς το λεπτό για να σου πω

Does grain orientation matter
Of course. Watching the grain leads to cleaner and easier cuts!
yum... looks good enough to drink out of,,, good job....
Thank you! Actually the tea had a really nice natural taste in it!
Kuksa? Which means?
It's a traditional Finnish wooden mug!
I'm afraid temptation would have gotten the better of me and I would have hollowed it out on the lathe.
That's an idea for another project! ;)
👍👍
perfeita valeu
thank you
Parabeis meu amigo
Nice work!! What kind of tool was that you were using to shave off the edges?
Thank you, a carving knife and a spokeshave!
The design was not my cup of tea (no pun intended... seriously). However much much respect for how you achieved your goal!
Thank you
Immediately stopped watching.
Kuksa has to be carved from a birch burl not any block of wood.
why'd you stop there? should have stopped yourself from commenting..
TeddtheYoung I knew there was going to be one like this. As soon as I seen the vid. Always one in every thread. Lol.
It's none of your business if he carved it from some block of wood
