Love the series! Hopefully funding can come for 1990 and beyond
Pat openly said on a podcast he doesn’t think it’s possible - I would love for it to happen, this show didn’t get the exposure and respect it deserved when it aired originally
@@scribe8630 That's a shame. Lots of gaming history videos but this one had a nice mix of everything with lots of fun insight from tons of people who grew up on it.
Yah I think they need a better director to make this
Just gimme a donate button
@@scribe8630 I still think they kinda approached it unprofessional nice to joke and have fun but some scenes u can see pat and Ian kind of arguing and getting irratable and it really was all based on 40ish gamers opinions of what I would assume was a high school cliche of friends. Still good series though
Eric Lappe calling it "paper rock scissors" instead of "rock paper scissors" only furthers my suspicion that he's from an alternate timeline.
Thanks Pat for rereleasing all of these. I truly love this series. I was there when RWTV was firing on all cylinders. Met one of my good friends through the forums there. I was in Texas and he was in Canada. Now I live in Minnesota and we still keep in touch. This series brings back so many memories, and not just for the games and stuff. So good. Thanks again Pat! And thanks to all the people who worked on this. This show rules!
The production and work put into these are so amazing, I know these are old videos and have watched them before.. but they definitely stand the test of time. Hopefully more viewers see them now, especially after the Karl Jobst cameo. These deserve millions of views.
Series is top-notch. Thanks for pooling them together like this.
Ah, this whole series is my comfort place. I watch it almost every day on a loop while I get work done. I know you've talked about changing up the format if '90s ever happens but...idk you have something special here.
Love this series! Would love to see 1990 and beyond... even just the rest of the 16bit era as it only just started heating up!
Absolutely love this series. I mean, you guys always give me some good entertainment, but these videos actually make me emotional. The depth of the content and love that clearly went into it is super apparent.
On a side note, I'm convinced this is where Tommy got the Amico seed planted... I'm not blaming anyone, just laying out the pieces and letting you put them together 😂
I was the weird kid who had a Sega Master System. My dad got me 2, the OG version with the card slot and the smaller version later.
I wish Sega would have gotten the third party support. It would have interesting to see what Konami & Capcom could do with the Master System.
Amazing work Pat. Thoroughly enjoying these.
Alex the Kidd was my first game ever on a console on the PAL version Master System II, it was already programmed in the console so I played it a lot. Then I bought Ultima IV and I didn't really understand the game mechanics in the beginning but eventually grew to be my favorite genre.
Clan of the Gray Wolf! We miss your content man! Come back! Glad to see you here at least
Thank you!! This series is awesome!! Very thankful for this!! Hoping it stays through the 90s’!!
Wow! As a video game lover since 1982 and a you tube fanatic, i have to say your videos are super top notch quality for both production and content quality and they are entertaining and informative as well (and have a magical element that makes me feel like Friday nights renting a new game in 1988 or reading a new issue of nintendo power back in the day!!!!) Rock on!!! ✌️
OutRun proved to me that I had no business trying to get a drivers license.
This is a great series! Keep it up!
I literallly watch this series at least twice a year, PLEASE bring the 90s! I’ll share funding links, spread the word, just please do the 90s! 💫
Outrun was one of my all-time favorite Sega Arcade Driving Game ever that I was a huge fan my favorite soundtrack was Magical Sound Shower and Pressing Breeze.
Thanks pat and everyone else that did these
I always forget that the master system and the 7800 came out this year
Really like this series. So cool that there is a new episode =)
I love these episodes.
Such a great show! One of my all time favorites. Like a lot of others dropping comments, I really REALLY wish the circumstances would evolve that would bring us new episodes from 1990 and onward!
This series is so well done! Top notch professional work! If you guys keep making them I’ll keep watching them over and over haha ✌️
Random thought, but Ian's hair looks great in this video 🤣 Really. No sarcasm.
This is a great series. Thank you very much, i'm gonna check 'em all out if I can.
Fun watching pat and Ian get annoyed with each other.....Ian does a great pat impression of epyx
Amazing Work. I Really appreciate this stunning series. Superb.
You nailed the Atari 7800 perfectly. Great call-out of Gremlins for the 5200 too! Amazed it got support up until then.
Great overview of the year. Much thanks! I recall the video thumbnail having a photo of the Atari XE Game System but it's not indexed?
Hey Pat just wanted to say the episode of you on Pawnstars was on tonight. I watch the reruns every night at 2am on WBXX.
Yes!!! 😁😁😁 another great episode! You rock Pat and crew!!
24:56 Because the monsters of RAMPAGE were based on the old school, OG 'Monsters of Hollywood', *THATS* why.
I was just playing 720 at a local pizza joint this past weekend. Loved the game back then and still love it now.
Aaahh 1986, the year I lost my virginity during orientation camp of secondary school. What a year… the video games were fun too btw. Outrun which I actually played the year later at snackbar across the street. I have a fun story whilst I drive all the stages about that. In order to reach all the stages I first hacked the video game in the previous video. As much as I loved it I never make it past stage 4 and getting there was even rare.
We need the video game yrs the 1990s please!
I would love to see this series come back somehow. It would be cool if Pat took a break after the next Certain Guide Book came out and somehow pulled things together to do enough pf these episodes to finish off the Nes years at least. 90-94 would be cool. All the great 16 Bit stuff, Awesome late 8 bit stuff, and the early primitive 32 bit stuff.
...the year good arcade games finally started coming out.
Awesome thanks !
It only took Ian 10 years of games to take off his hoodie.
You missed the arcade game Rastan. The Conan the Barbarian clone hack n slash! Loved playing that game in the arcade!
I had it for the master system
23:45 . Me. This console was made for kids (and families) like mine…kinda poor, but not poverty level, kids. My parents were not fans of video games in general, in no small part because of cost. So at age 13, I finally convinced my mom to pick up an Atari 7800, which was on sale for half price. I was 13 by this time and my friends were already playing NES or C64 (except those families that had a 2600 and refused to upgrade to an NES). I was the only one of my friends with a 7800-I didnt care. Over the next couple years I picked up 11 7800 games a a dozen of the best 2600. I was proud of that library, except Karateka. The 7800 served its purpose--until I replaced it with a SNES.
I always wanted the 7800 and never could understand how a console like the NES could NOT have a joystick! I figured it out years later.
Just here from Karl Jobst latest video, showing support against anything that exposes rampant greed
The master systems legacy was far more than Japan and the USA? It wasn’t even popular in the US. It was waaaayy more popular in England and the EU.
Karl Jobst sent me here…
Hi…! 👋🏼
Absolute legend… Hi, check out the rest of the Video Game Years series! Pat is convinced nobody wants to watch these, but I love them.
The Sega Master System commercial with the Star Trek The Next Generation episode promo narrator
Love this series!
I forgot that jackel was an arcade game cause I've watched these before cause I love jackel for the nes
*Jackal
On a nonrelated note. Happy 30th b day Super Nintendo 😊😊😊
You guys forgot Bubble Bobble
My experience of the mid to late 80’s from the UK was
1 cousin with NES
1 friend with Master System
1 friend with C64
Everyone else has ZX Spectrums. I think the ratio of C64’s to Spectrums changes in favour of the C64 amongst wealthier families.
I've been waiting for my birth year...woooooooo.
I had the balloon trip game and watch! It was super fun! All my class mates wanted to trade me for it but no chance! It was great, I wonder if it's still in my stuff at my mom's house
Had the honor to play super sprint arcade at Funspot with the World Record Holder
Damn. I thought there were finally new episodes. I've been HOODWINKED !
Best effin' intro. Fight me.
(Don't REALLY fight me. I'm an old dad, outta shape...😂 but really though, solid intro for us 40 something age group, yeah... ...yeah? 😜
Great series sega and the master system there some great systems there great at arcade games 🎮,they sega needs to make a come back 😊❤
Dunno if I have time to get into another YT channel, but I'm here from Karl Jobst to subscribe and express my gratitude and support. Keep speaking the truth!
32:35 - Clearly the cape is used as a parachute. :)
Game Sack cameo 6:58 lol
Any plans on bringing this series back for the 2000s til now?
I've got Chiller in the original box and manual🤟
I had no idea defender of the crown was an amiga game. I remember it from the nes
Man yall really loved the "I love the (decade)" formula huh. I did too.
GREAT Series! Loved it! I watched from 89' back to 77'. Glad I was alive for it! Golden Years for Gaming! #CertainNESGuideBook #FleaMarketMadness
No Bubble Bobble?
C'mon, if you're going to pay tribute to ear worms, it at least deserved a passing mention.
I had so much fun playing the rampage cabinet with my brother when I was younger. Tried playing a modern arcade cabinet version of it recently and it was just a bit.:: meh. Not the same.
Whoa, Clan of the Gray Wolf! Dude, please return to UA-cam!
My birth is 1986 Im a big fan of videogames so that s no a coincidence is destiny Im very happy for that
Just how long ago was this series filmed??
2011-2012ish
@@entropyredefined thanks! Are these just re-releases, or just long-time-comings?
I unfortunately got scammed by Atari . I really thought it was going to be the shit. I never had a 2600 , and remembered how popular they where. I was a kid , I thought “oh , a new Atari this is gonna be huge “. Boy was I wrong.
Where the nineties ones at biznatch?
My buddy down the street from me got the Sega Master System about a year before my grandmother gave me the NES for Christmas '87. Initially I was green with Envy to my friend because it was obvious the Sega had better Graphics. Then for my Birthday (Jan 1) of '88 my parents got me Tecmobowl! My buddy with the Sega Master System pulled out "Great Football"... LMAO we both recognized what a POS it was! That year at the arcade mine and my friends favorite game waaas "Doube Dragon" and luckily it was coming out on BOTH the NES and Sega Master System! By now I grew to love my NES but also recognized the Sega console was more powerful. To my shock my NES Version of Double Dragon was MUCH better than the Sega console version. After that I had no doubt my Grandmother bought the RIGHT console for me Master System while tech better had shit games. (I know it had handful of good games).
Samus should've been included in the Babes of 1986, but i guess back then, no one knew she was a chick
For those that like super sprint, there is a good pico-8 game called off-road that is fun.
Frodo Baggins looks like Eric Lappe.
Damn right those shoulda been games in 1986
Ty for this seris bruh theor were a couole youtube ogs was that the wolf and dave and joe those are my dudes
Play Choice 10 was evil - yes, it had a good selection of games, but a quarter for ten minutes - only? Evil. Nobody ever set time limits at home, but this thing really skimped on the time limits.
Wow, they sat on the 5200 for years? Man Atari is the king of f’ing everything up. And the 7800…
This should have more views. You should find a new way to promote it may because that's far too low for the content quality
We have a spam problem here
Why is there a thumbnail of Mega Man ?
1986 part 2?
Was 'Jackal' the inspiration for the Halo 'Warthog'? 🤔
Eh, probably not 😄
why was wonderboy left out?
I swear to God the nes port of double dribble favored player 2.
Ian looks so tan and debonair and well groomed. How long ago was this filmed?
Around 2011-12.
Not trying to be a pest but i thought he was reuploading the same video over and over so ive been ignoring them, itd be cool if the name of the video changed a bit more

The Legend of Zelda? 😢
The Video Game Years 1986 - Gaming History Clash of Egos
The "Video Game Crash" wasn't as huge a deal as you say it is. It only affected one area of the world that hadn't adopted much more gaming tech outside of the company Tramiel took over. Also, many of the talking heads here look far too young to be sounding like they know what they are talking about when talking about things like the crash.
A lot of them shouldn't even be given a mic considering that they can't even articulate words very well. Bunch of stuttering buffoons.
