This is where they showed they are masters at mashups. They literally combined to two songs into one while all the other groups would just sing part of one song and then follow it with their second song. Then at the end Ptx really showed off their skills by having Kirstie sing since you’ve been gone while Scott is singing forget you at the exact same time.
I think they blew the judges' minds so much their bar got set so high they likely had to tone it down to not be accused of favoritism. "Dog Days" is the last competitive song and my absolute favorite, Mitch finally gets to shine.
Agree, Sal - so technically complicated, especially considering how young and relatively inexperienced they were at that point. Really looking forward to episode 12, hopefully followed by reacting to their Season 4 come back song I Need Your Love. After touring for awhile, their polish is so bright you're gonna need shades...
I agree 100%. They definitely deserved more praise for that one, the arrangement of the 2 songs into one, the singing and the stage movement were all perfectly executed. Mitch was jumping back and forth backing both Scott & Kirstie on both songs. Kevin and Avi were amazing and I loved how Kevin threw up his hands in relief on the last note like, “Yes! We got through it to the end and nailed it!” Loved your reaction.
You can see this is the beginning of their subsequent mash ups like Daft Punk. You would have to watch the other groups to understand how good PTX were, how innovative, etc. Even though the other groups had some good singers too. The judges were way more critical of the other groups. My favorite is 12.
We’re they really? I guess I don’t think of that. They could of been ripping the other groups this entire time and I wouldn’t know lol. Thanks for pointing that out
After watching PTX's performances on this series a couple of times, I gave in and watched the full episodes of the whole season (as much as you can in UA-cam, but don't get me started on that - I'd happily buy it, so just please....!) It was worth the time - not only were there several other groups that were really good and enjoyable to watch, it was satisfying to know our buddies here did not just waltz in and take over the stage. They had to fight to stay in and that forged them in fire. I don't think they would have gotten where they are now without that
@@elizabethsantersero9597 I’ve watch a lot of season 3, but not all of it. I was curious about some of the other groups. I also enjoyed watching the opening numbers and looking for the PTX members. Scott is usually front and center, Kirstie is often featured, you can catch glimpses of Mitch and Kevin, but it is really hard to find Avi. They must put the basses in the back.
Number 12. Is the key because after that it’s opened up to America to vote!! the rehearsal went badly as they were exhausted and Scott’s voice was going out from overuse. They were afraid they were gonna lose and then !!!! Ten years later and they still haven’t run out of new stuff. 😁
I love this Pentatonix performance. Glad that you liked it. I hope that you will not wait 2 weeks until you react to the 12th performance like you did for performances 10 to 11. Also, please react to performances 13 and 14 and to the final episode where they were declared winners. Pentatonix also came back and performed there 3 times after they won. Please react to all of them, please.
Hello Salvo G. The Sing Off Journey for PTX is such fun. After you have completed all 12, please do three more related items. 1) The PTX winner'a performance after they were announced as the winners 2) PTX as guest performers the following season (a nice surprise in there) and 3) Superfruit doing a critique of the PTX Sing Off about 4 years after their win (they are both just hilarious, but Mitch is so super funny in this). By this time they had a Grammy, CDs, live shows and popularity as Superfruit so the critique was well needed. Love your reactions and your commentary as always!
I’m with you that the judges didn’t give them enough credit on this one. Technically, I think this was probably the most difficult of the songs they performed, and they smashed it.
What is amusing is in the prelude to #4 Scott said that Sonos was the group they aspired to be like. Not to dis Sonos but oh the horrors if that was all PTX had aspired to.
Pretty much Everything that they did from the that last performance on is really good and I think that the judges have just gotten to a point where they are running out of things to say. If you were watching the series at that time, people just didn't know what to say about them anymore. They were just something really new and amazing every week. It was an experience I will never forget. I watched it With my then 6yo granddaughter. You are looking back on it already knowing they are amazing. Love the reactions 😎
I'd love to know if this was a performance where they worked with Ben Bram - not that I think they couldn't do it without him, but it has that special flavor that seems to come from him being in the arranging mix with them, like adding that bit of sour cream to a cake that is already luscious, lol.
If I could have a guess, the producers probably told the judges to tone down their praise of Pentatonix a little bit. I don't know that for sure, just a hunch. Because I think it was very obvious to everyone who the winners were by this point. I loved the look on your face when you realized just how much of a mash up it was! Such a classic and entertaining reaction!
I think the judges were pretty astute in their critiques. I've watched all the episodes and they are careful not to go overboard with positive OR negative comments.
You've got to remember that they were late teens, early 20s. But they were smart. And of all of the groups, they mixed it up the most. The other groups were ok, but only ok.
The other groups all had some good singers, a few even great singers but none of them came close in terms of the arrangements. It's not a surprise that two of the three Grammy awards won by PTX have been for arrangement.
I just posted this on another reactor’s page so apologies to Pentaholics seeing this comment again! Ok..so a few things before you listen to #12 Dog Days Are Over. 1. It’s the final performance that counts. After this the show opened up the voting to people at home to determine the winner. 2. Scott had no voice the day of the show. They’d been doing the show for weeks doing 2 songs a show plus the group opening number. PTX was spent and dog ass tired. 3. PTX had a disastrous dress rehearsal. They couldn’t get it together, they were off key and Scott’s voice was shot. They resigned themselves to the fact they were going to lose. 4. Mitch was battling serious anxiety and stress during the run of the show. 5. If you can, listen to it straight through without stopping. 6. If you’ve never heard the original from Florence & the Machine go do that now. Enjoy!
I subscribed and watched all your Sing Off reactions and a few other PTX reactions tonight. I'm caught up with you on the Sing Off and I'm eager to see your reaction to "Dog Days Are Over." It does live up to the hype you've been seeing in the comments.
I think you put your finger on why some people underrate this performance; I think I always gave the judges too much credit. They do give lots of positive commentary, they just didn't respond emotionally. (So many commenters say 10 & 12 are awesome! 11 is meh!) Let me tell you, I watched this when it aired and I was blown AWAY. The mixing of the two songs thematically as well as melodically? 🤯
I started off liking the music you were reacting to, nut I gotta say. Too many repeated groups or artist. Variety is the spice of life and music. Your picks are starting to become bland. Do chameleons, Xymox, presets, machinations, kissing the pink, something….anything other than this.

Ok, the next your reaction to the 12th performance is one of those 'must see' for me🙃
I love how Scott's wingman Kevin throws up his hands at the end.

Really looking forward to episode 12, hopefully followed by reacting to their Season 4 come back song I Need Your Love. After touring for awhile, their polish is so bright you're gonna need shades...
The judges might have been holding back a little since the final performance pre- voting is coming up in the same episode. Can't wait til you hear it!

12 is my absolute favorite.
The best is yet to come..Dog Days are Over!!

You are right! Hard for reactors to see the context when you can’t see how the judges were with the other competitors.
After watching PTX's performances on this series a couple of times, I gave in and watched the full episodes of the whole season (as much as you can in UA-cam, but don't get me started on that - I'd happily buy it, so just please....!)

@@elizabethsantersero9597 The giant group collaborations at the start of each episode were super entertaining to watch.
As Shawn said they were sent to save a cappella! And the next one is probably the favorite of the folks who love Mitch’s voice.
Salvo: I think they won it right then.
Me: Just wait until the next one. I'm not sure you will live through it.

No doubt that this was difficult...but it was simply amazing!
Extremely difficult and very fun
Best is yet to come! #12 NEXT HYPE!
I really enjoy this one, but the next one? Amazing!
That is one of my favorite songs from The Sing Off.
I love this Pentatonix performance. Glad that you liked it. I hope that you will not wait 2 weeks until you react to the 12th performance like you did for performances 10 to 11. Not only did they have a week to arrange this, they choreographed it too. This is my favorite competition entry.
You continue to impress me with your open mind and expansive taste.....let's support this man and spread the word about this channel!

Reminder that 12 is the last of the competition and voted on by viewers. There are performances after 12, but they didn’t count as to who would win.
What is amusing is in the prelude to #4 Scott said that Sonos was the group they aspired to be like. Not to dis Sonos but oh the horrors if that was all PTX had aspired to.
No 12 next 🙌🙌
100% coming next week!!!
Love your reaction! I’ve watched this performance so many times, loving the mashup.
The series isn’t over yet!
The next one is going to shatter you!! I can't wait!!
Buckle up for the next performance. It’s a wild ride. And please don’t wait 2 weeks to do it.
Hi Salvo I think the judges should have gave them higher praise on this too! Fire 🔥

aside from the audition this was only THE 11th TIME they sang together, that is mind-boggling

Seriously! Did they watch the same song? I totally agree with you!
The judge’s choice round is one of their best performances. I look forward to you seeing that one ☺️

I think it was theirs to lose after Born to Be Wild.
Recommend their Seasons Of Love (televised version).

🥩🥔❤❤
Jon Batiste and PTX just released a collab called "Sweet". Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/AhHRvrlDWXs/v-deo.html
Ben Folds is a little too condescending for my taste, he knows he will never be as good as any single one of them
