The Celestial Weapon: Vel
The Vel, a divine spear, is the quintessential weapon of Lord Murugan. Its acquisition is a pivotal moment in Murugan's mythology.
The Divine Gift
According to the Skanda Purana, as Murugan was growing into his divine form, it became evident that a weapon of immense power was needed to vanquish the demon Tarakasura. Anticipating her son's need, Parvati, the goddess of power and compassion, created the Vel. This celestial weapon was not merely a physical object but a manifestation of divine energy.
The process of creating the Vel is often described as a cosmic event. It is said that Parvati drew upon the essence of the universe, infusing the Vel with the powers of creation, preservation and destruction.
When Lord Murugan was ready to confront Tarakasura, Parvati presented him with the Vel. This moment is considered a significant turning point. Armed with this divine weapon, Murugan was empowered to fulfill his cosmic duty.
The Vel in Modern Celebrations
The event of Parvati gifting the Vel to Murugan is a central theme in many Hindu festivals, particularly those dedicated to Lord Murugan.
Thai Poosam: This is one of the most prominent festivals honouring Lord Murugan. Devotees undertake rigorous austerities, including carrying kavadis (elaborate structures adorned with the favourites of Murugan) as a form of penance.
Skanda Sashti: This six-day festival celebrates the birth and victories of Murugan. The climax of the festival often involves processions carrying the image of Murugan, accompanied by devotees carrying Vel-like structures.
Temple Festivals: Many Murugan temples across the world host annual festivals that re-enact the story of the Vel and its significance. These celebrations include processions, pujas (worship rituals), and cultural performances.
The Vel is more than just a weapon; it is a symbol of divine power, courage and victory. Its significance transcends religious boundaries, becoming a potent symbol of Tamil culture and identity. The annual celebrations dedicated to the Vel and its association with Lord Murugan serve to reinforce the deity's position as a beloved and revered god in the Hindu pantheon.
ਸਵਰਗੀ ਹਥਿਆਰਃ ਵੇਲ
ਵੇਲ, ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਰਛਾ, ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਮ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦੇ ਮਿਥਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਪਲ ਹੈ।
ਈਸ਼ਵਰੀ ਤੋਹਫ਼ਾ
ਸਕੰਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਜਿਵੇਂ-ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਧ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਇਹ ਸਪੱਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਰਾਖਸ਼ ਤਾਰਕਾਸੁਰ ਨੂੰ ਹਰਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਅਥਾਹ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਸੀ। ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਦੀ ਉਮੀਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਦਇਆ ਦੀ ਦੇਵੀ ਪਾਰਵਤੀ ਨੇ ਵੇਲ ਦੀ ਸਿਰਜਣਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਹ ਸਵਰਗੀ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਭੌਤਿਕ ਵਸਤੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਬਲਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਊਰਜਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵਾ ਸੀ।
ਵੇਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਿਰਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਅਕਸਰ ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪਾਰਵਤੀ ਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡ ਦੇ ਤੱਤ ਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਚਿਆ, ਵੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ, ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਿਆ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਤਾਰਕਾਸੁਰ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਪਾਰਵਤੀ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਲ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਪਲ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਮੋਡ਼ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ. ਇਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੈਸ, ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਿਮੰਡੀ ਫਰਜ਼ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਸਮਾਰੋਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੇਲ
ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ, ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਰਵਤੀ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਲ ਤੋਹਫ਼ੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਇੱਕ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ।
ਥਾਈ ਪੂਸਮਃ ਇਹ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ। ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਕਠੋਰ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਾਵਡ਼ੀਆਂ (ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦੇ ਮਨਪਸੰਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਾਏ ਗਏ ਵਿਸਤ੍ਰਿਤ ਢਾਂਚੇ) ਨੂੰ ਚੁੱਕਣਾ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ।
ਸਕੰਦ ਸਸ਼ਤੀਃ ਇਹ ਛੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਸ਼ਨ ਮਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਿਉਹਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਿਖਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਕਸਰ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਦੀ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਲੂਸ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂ ਵੇਲ ਵਰਗੇ ਢਾਂਚੇ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਮੰਦਿਰ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਃ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਤਿਉਹਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੇਜ਼ਬਾਨੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵੇਲ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਡ਼ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਲੂਸ, ਪੂਜਾ (ਪੂਜਾ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਸਮਾਂ) ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰਕ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹਨ।
ਵੇਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਹੈ; ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ, ਹਿੰਮਤ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੀਮਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਤਮਿਲ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਪਛਾਣ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਵੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਸਾਲਾਨਾ ਸਮਾਰੋਹ ਅਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਮੁਰੂਗਨ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਦੇਵਤਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰਤ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
