I know lot of "real supporters" who are turned of by Darwin. I dont think calling out someone who repeatedly, match-in/match-out cannot hit water standing on a boat is unfair. Not to mention, arguably, Darwin Nunez, along with all the other forwards in the team, bears a degree of responsibility of missing 100s of chances, literally and the reason why Liverpool bottled the league. To call all of those supporters "plastic" is judgmental AF. and this includes me. Supported Liverpool for 30 yrs and will do for the rest of my life but will also call out players like Darwin. To clarify, I am not on social media platform like Insta so I don't know what happened and I don't condone/or support abuse.

He’s been too emotional since he arrived and that has been his biggest downfall. You can’t have a man play striker who can’t get a grip on his emotions. You need focus, calmness and composure in front of goal. I agree that if he were to stay, he needs to be playing as a left winger, not as a CF/ST.

This stuff about natural finishers being born not made. Pick any “natural finisher” you like and they all spend ages on the training ground drilling different finishes. After the 2001 FA Cup final Henry was criticised for not being a natural goal scorer- and what did he do? He began practicing his finishing over and over again. In today’s training methods there’s a large emphasis on making sure players have enough rest and getting them off the training ground once the team practice is over. Nunez just needs to spend time after training really drilling his finishing-like all the greats have in the past

Very risky playing him on the left wing, while it is true that would take off the responsibility of leading the line and take off pressure, I think he does not have the skill set for a winger, his offside awareness is still an issue if he plays there, he is not a good crosser, and really struggles traping balls and dribbling. He IS a center forward and has been for most of his professional career. Playing him there was the right call by Klopp. So if Klopp, the best coach in the world at developing forwards, sees him as a 9 and Benfica also did that - then he is a 9. And talk of playing him as winger is overlooking the fact that he doesnt have Diaz or Gakpos or Jotas on-ball abilities.

Here’s my problem with Nunez…he doesn’t need to wallop the ball on goal every single time he gets a chance. Just side foot it anywhere but straight. If he does that, he has at least another 10 goals this season. The baffling thing is that he can score from outside the box where he has time to compose, but not inside it where it’s an instant decision. Newcastle is an example. I just don’t think he has suited the Klopp system, as everything has been happening too quickly for him. He’s not a Mane or a Firmino where the first touch is vital. Maybe with Slot, he can become a focal point in some sort of 4-5-1 formation. If he cost 30 million, nobody would be shouting too much. But because he’s 70, the pressure really mounts unfortunately.

Some nice, responsible, considered thoughts on the matter. Ultimately it’s hard to know what the answer is, I personally don’t think left is the answer, he doesn’t have the ability to beat a man. I can only ever see him as a striker that facilitates for others around him, running the channels and creating space for the wide players and midfielders to get goals. His attributes are speed and athleticism, he can press all day and run the channels all day, utilise that somehow.
He is certainly low on confidence, he wasn’t ideal but was contributing to the team a couple of months ago, now he just looks so low on confidence he doesn’t believe he can contribute at all. Hopefully the new manager has a plan for him, not even necessarily starting but it’s horses for courses for me, his attributes could be very useful against certain teams even though he’ll never be a clinical Haaland type.

    Nunez tried all
The faintest of flicks , dinks he’d hit the post , crossbar then the GK
And as time went on he’s got frustrated now he’s just smashing the ball now and still hitting the Gk ..
he has got it in him
    Just needs a different approach
Slot might think he can sort that out ..

Criticism is fine, abuse is not. Even as a international Red from Australia who speaks only for me- feel like we should know better. And be better but we're not, with that said hes probably not hit the heights. For the money paid for him, yet he has done ok. Unsure on whether we should keep him, but yeah theres no doubt that abuse is poor. And if Ive seen it with Quansah myself, Ill believe the ppl saying its there for Darwin

Most fans want him to succeed but he just isn't technically good enough nor composed enough to play at the highest level. When have you ever seen him sit down a goalkeeper and calmly slot it in? He just blasts it with no thought. Look at him compared to Isak, Watkins, Palmer, Solanke even. Enough said.

Nunez is being scapegoated for our revent collapse is pathetic but predictable behavior. Salah had not scored an open play goal in 9 before Spurs. I can't remember the last time Diaz and Gakpo have also been hot and cold, even more than Nunez. Dom has been so bad that he barely plays. And I could go on about the poor performances of some defenders. There is so much blame to go around.
He had a bad cameo vs. Spurs, and he definitely looks mentally checked out for the season, but the defenders who almost let Spurs back in the match also had poor performances. As soon as the game finished, I moved on with the rest of my life.

Ok the other not, the problem with nunez is not where he is playing, it's his lack of finishing. You can put him on the wing and he will still miss chances if he doesn't work on his finishing.

Typical fans do not understand this, and I believe Klopp does, the high tempo and the limited space (from high backline) our forwards get makes it very hard not to instinctively smash the ball, and Nunez is still adapting to it. Even Salah finds it difficult. Nunez would have scored a dozen more if we reverted to the part counter attacking game a few years ago. Get off his back will you?

    • @staysane7049
      @staysane7049 11 днів тому

Nunez is always trying, always getting chances, setting up chances. Although it is frustrating when your team doesn't score, LFC are not the only club in the premier league who have missed chances, it happens in most games. Hope Darwin and Salah can have better fortune when Mr Slot arrives! Stay positive, YNWA.

When we need goals, we need a goal scorer on the pitch and Nunez has shown on many many occasions that he is not that. His effort is always outstanding but how many other fans here don’t think he’s going to score when through on goal ? Not many I reckon. If Liverpool can get good money for him they should take it.

He’s not disrespected the Club. He’s trying really really hard. It’s not his fault. You have to park some of the blame on Klopp for making a “somewhat” poor buying decision in 2022. He just isn’t that “killer” who is a 30-40 goals guy. He’s also not fully mature either. That said, our fanbase cannot, should not be smashing him online. Criticise and we all have our own opinions, but can’t be horrible to the lad and be personal via social media. It’s not on. At all.
