There have been so many low pressure systems that have moved over the UK this summer.. Has there been a nice, big, slow moving high pressure?? Just a conveyor belt of lows.. interspersed with a day or 3 hot days, dragged up from the south, only to disappear just as fast, & back to low pressure, rain, cloudy, cool temperatures etc etc..
Preferred means it looks like the most likely outcome for us meteorologists. We don't just take one model and run with it, sometimes we use a mix of two and sometimes we totally ignore one! It depends on the weather situation and so which one we prefer is always changing. Generally for the UK in the short term the Met Office Global and Hi Resolution model is the best bet though!
Simple solution for those who don't like warm ... move to Scotland. Simple solution for those who like warm .... move south and east. You're welcome ;)
This lady is good, and 9 minutes not to long to have to listen to a load of irrelevancies like other countries and interminable over-clever scientific jargon. At first I thought she was going to go on forever about what the weather will be like in the USA and Canada, but it wasn't too bad, she just mentioned Debby and how it affects the Jet Stream and most importantly, the *UK* and *our* specific regions. We want to know what *our* weather will be like over the next 7 days, and the well-illustrated bit of science is acceptable. So fed up with weather presenters peacocking their repetitive jargon for an hour, and even if we don't switch off we still don't have the roughest guide to the weather the next day or week, whether to prepare for 30 degree heat or rain or thunderstorms or how to plan days with small children so they don't get overheated, sunburnt, or caught out in a thunderstorm.

What do you want them to do, change geography for you? The North of the UK is cooler and wetter than the south. It's been that way for thousands of years, actually, make that hundreds of thousands, even during the last ice age! The far West of the south Wales is the same, except with a more stable climate - seldom snow, hence it's actually a rain forest region. (but only after the last ice age, obviously) The South East of the UK is the warmest and driest, closest to the continent and furthest south. One of the reasons for the different population densities is quite likely weather related. The South East is way more populated than north of the midlands. For the record, the weather was miserable in Oxfordshire when this forecast was made - drizzle all day, about 18c - but this forecast was for the days ahead! Because part of the story of this weather is the tropical air being pushed up from the South. "Don't you understand that viewers have windows. It's not right." And if this forecast turns out to be slightly wrong, perhaps the heat spreads further up the country and maybe you get to see some warm weather too - fingers crossed, eh?

Southern Scotland is coloured orange. It was 6 degrees last night. Allotment holders gave up more than a month ago. Your orange is your business.
@@jaculton2641 In fairness, it's more yellow than orange in Scotland. The average temperatures for Edinburgh/Glasgow is around 18c for the month of August. Todays weather shows it at around 21/22c - so a light orangey yellow seems justified to me. Inverness also seeing those temperatures. So, Metoffice are totally right with the colours in the forecast for Sunday/Monday - bang on the money. You are quite an angry person it seems. For you, the summer may be worst in all metrics and perhaps the Metoffice have the data to show this is the case. However, this forecast you have got so angry about, thrown your toys out of the cot over, seems about right. Or is it still 16c, cloudy and wet where you are? - the north west highlands seem to be copping a bit of light rain. But... it's the north west highlands. That's what it does. I'm very positive that the Metoffice haven't released any updates saying how amazing this summer has been, far from it. The start of it was a bit rubbish in the South too, but we've been fortunate over the last 3 to 4 weeks to have seen a decent run of weather. It seems the usual rains that hit around school holiday times have largely spared the south. Lucky for us.

Hotter than 30 degrees abroad without the humidity is not as dangerous to health as 30 With humidity. Because sweating does not cool the body successfully in humid air.

What's wrong with you don't you like summer weather
I despise it when it gets muggy in the UK. Anything over 26 degrees with high humidity is an unpleasant, horrid, sticky experience.
