The sand can't hurt and probably more bullet proof. However cories that live in the wild are in places that have very sharp substrates, much much worse than what you have there. It could be that you aren't feeding enough so the babies are digging too much to find food. Best of luck!

Yeah i also thought of this as well but the sand can’t hurt plus it gives the tank a fresh look. Thank you :)

I have kept cories is sand and gravel with no issues but I prefer sand just because of how much sifting they do. Great video, love your fish 👍😁

New sub here!!!! You won't be sorry with the sand and the Corys, it really is the best way to go. I've bread a ton of Corys and they do the best with a sand substrate. They also keep turning over the sand so it stays surprisingly clean.

They do love sand and I think look better on it. If those babies died because of something connected to the gravel, it wouldn't be from damage imho: I doubt they can apply enough pressure even on sharp gravel to cause damage. A hypothesis is that they dug their snouts down where there were small pockets of organic matter that carried a high enough percentage of pathogens (always present at at least low levels in any aquarium) that was enogh to overwhelm their immune systems. I experienced something similar with my sterbais a few years ago. In my case I had the babies in a thick clump of java moss floating in a net-like container in the same aquarium with the breeders. I was feeding microfood into the container and had a small airstone and powerhead which were slowly blowing the excess food out. Both those accidentally got shut off. Lots of probably unhealthy, high DOC, pathogen-rich organic matter built up in their container. I lost quite a few to what looked like bacterial infections before I noticed. The rest of the tank inhabitants appeared fine and all parameters were excellent elsewhere in the tank. Just a thought:)

That honestly could have been the cause, the sand looks nice and its been a week almost since putting sand in and haven’t lost a single cory since. Thank you for the insight :)

Hey Mate, Love the videos you put out and always great to watch someone else do well breeding fish. I was always told that you should always do sand with Corys as they sift alot, Glass bottom tanks can also be bad apparently from it having micro spikes on them. i only use sand in all my tanks as my Apistos also Sift alot.
Have a great day mate, Hopefully we could chat and help each other out in the future .
