You do get hassle from big dealers, they are all dodgy. Whenever anything goes wrong they just deny it and use legal warfare to try and prevent you getting refunds. I’ve had experience of this with 2 different large dealerships. Most people don’t have the time and resources to take them to court, and the justice system is so poor that even if you have a clear cut case the judge might not bother to read it and make a random judgement anyway
If anything it’s easier to sue the smaller dealers as they can’t as easily afford lawyers as the big dealers. Big dealerships have law firms on retainer to fight every claim and try and stop you from getting a refund

If you are getting the wrong vibes or his sales pitch doesn't add up, simply say nothing, thank him for his time (with your own inside understanding that he's a conman and not to be trusted) and go to the next dealer until you find the right people to buy from, it's really not that hard, can take some time if you live in an area where these types are the norm but mitigating that is simple, just look further afield. There's plenty out there that won't see you as a cash machine.

Why would anyone buy a used car in the UK, nothing but criminals/thugs selling them. They should pass a law that a new business if owned by the same person or family member as the previous one, will have to pay the writ. If the new owner can take the old owner to court if he/she thinks they bought a business w/o a debt disclosure...and if the old owner and new owner are the same person, no recourse.

I’m Dutch and every company is listed under a registration number. No matter if you change the name, the number stays equal when ownership is the same.
It's likely they registered a new company under the new name, so a different company number, and is exactly the reason for the difficulties the enforcement people were having.
