Dude that dialogue is obviously referring to the rival hero. If there is a character creator it’s up in the air still. Why would the MC be referring to herself in the third person? “She’s back.”
Yeah I was waiting for him to notice that, I don't know how he missed it. The dialogue is clearly inferring that they're not actually talking about the player character, they're talking about the rival hero. Presumably this means the story will revolve around us, the protege of Humphrey, taking on his old apprentice (some sort of sorceress) as the big baddie. Also, Fable doesn't have a character creator. In the first game you just got to name a male character. In Fable 2 you got to choose your gender and name but that was it, and my guess is that this will be the same. You appearance would alter based on decisions you made in game (like a haircut, gaining weight, changing clothes), but there was no character customizer at the start of the game.
I thought 'she's back' referred to the blind lady from fable 2 but I can't remember what happened to that character after she took control of the Spire.
“She” is referring to the rival hero, the woman that talks at the end. IMO why would Humphrey be talking in past tense about the hero who walks up behind him in the present.
The PC literally comes in at the end and says 'she's back' ffs lmao 'Hero' in Fable was always what was used as an androgynous term to your character whether they're male, female, or whatever you choose to imagine in between.

Very true. I don’t need a character creator. I just want to be able to manipulate my character throughout the game (haircut, tattoos, piercings, clothes) and hopefully some new things like body type (muscular, slender, fat), gait, and height.
@@baddreams123451 if we are being honest, most great stories have themes and messages and metaphors, allegory, and satire, that correlate to real life. You may not like or agree with a message being presented in someone’s art, but I would caution you from wishing away stories with themes and messages that connect to real life. They have always done this. Romeo and Juliet. Macbeth. Lord of the rings. Star Wars. Titanic. Pocahontas. The fast and the furious. Predator. Rocky. Movies of all genres and time periods. These are all stories with strong themes and “agendas”. I also think it’s important to note that people have become far too sensitive to labeling things as an “agenda”. And the usage of “agenda” as an inherent negative. When sharing any greater message or theme could be considered an agenda… but people don’t care unless that message is something they don’t agree with.
@@cthefro People always get this mixed up. Fable had character 'development', not character customisation. Your Hero would 'evolve' over the course of the game depending on your morality choices, your stats, whether you ate a lot etc etc What you COULD do was in-game buy different haircuts, or change clothes.
He doesn't actually talk about the main player though, you just supposed to think that. "She" is the rival hero we get teased at the end. "she" is back. I think it is pretty clear and even if not, we have this in other games, they just have to record more voice lines.
Fable always used the term 'Hero' to refer to your character, whether male or female. They never used 'he' or 'she' because it SAVED on voice lines lmao
To echo what another person said, regarding the sword, grabbing the sword by the blade and hitting an enemy with the hilt is an actual thing called a mordhau technique. It's a little bit of a misconception that every sword was sharpened the entirety of the blade, when in reality, depending on the time period and style, some of the blade was kept dull enough to allow for somewhat of a grip. Fighters could grab the blade in this area to either gain better control over the sword when swinging the blade or to reverse it and use the pommel and handle as a blunt instrument when that would be more appropriate. Definitely some "game magic" going on, but, as the other guy pointed out, this is actually rooted in a real life sword technique.
@@edvinljung6666 I don't know where you draw the line, but let me tell you this. I have never seen someone ugly in my entire life, and I have seen people with unflattering features. But ugly? Don't think I ever think someone look ugly. In the last 5 years though ... I lost count how many times I looked at a game character and thought "wow, why so ugly?". And the irony is a lot of them are actually model after real life actor ... and then uglified for the game presentation. Ironic because apparently the logic is attractive character is so unrealistic and thus need to be made more ugly then their "real life" model to be ... more realistic? Like ... make it make sense.
@@GamerReader927 I have seen ugly people and let me tell you: I just looked down, didn't make any eye contact, that's how horrible they were. But it's extremely rare for me to see real deal ugly people, but it happened and I just couldn't look at them.
A few notes: Fable never had a character creator. You could only choose male of female character. You could modify your character in-game by changing hairstyles, bulking up (fat or muscle), changing outfits, etc. The character's appearance would also changed based on gameplay & the choices you made... My take on the "she" in the line, "she's back" is Theresa. Finally, my main critique about this trailer is that the game looks darker than other games; Fable was always a bright, vibrant world, whereas this has a grittier color palette... Also, it looks like this game will have a voiced protagonist, which (unless I'm mistaken) is another departure from the 3 prior games...
Yeah that’s what people mean when they say character creator. We could make our character like we wanted and of course people expect that this decade old feature is expanded and not cancelled in the new Fable game.
I agree with almost everything you've said. The one thing I don't is this gane being 'darker'. The originals had its own dark bits and themes. Remember the children being turned into those goblin creatures in 1 or 2? Then you go murdering all those creature, potentially all stolen children? In the caves. But they also had it's brighter parts. I fully expect this game to have the same
@@jackpalmer7577 I don't mean brighter/darker in terms of tone, I mean color palette. Yes, there were some dark regions, but compare the scenes from the trailer in the city to the city in prior games; the prior games had brighter colors, a more cartoony color scheme...
@@GusMix79 That's not a character creator. You given a base character w/ a set appearance. The appearance can be changed during your playthrough, but you would have to collect or buy outfits, hairstyles, & dyes. Even then, you wouldn't be able to change facial features; like you couldn't make your character's eyes or ears bigger or smaller, & I don't think you could ever change the character's skin tone. Also, you would have limited control over some changes to the characters appearance . For example, in Fable 2 you would grow taller if you got ranged skills, more muscular if you used melee skills, & you would develop glowing tattoos if you used magic. These things would happen whether you wanted to or not. You couldn't be a short ranged-specialist, or a thin close-ranged fighter. So again, not a character creator...
The first game had you only playing as a male character. Fable 2 was when the game started to let you choose yor gender. I think most people tend to forget that. But if the story and game itself is still good; then ill still be happy
I respectfully disagree, If people do not like the look of the character people are going to be far less inclined to play the game, We are a visual species after all, why do you think people spend so much time and money on character designs and visual advertising not to mention the constant desire for a character creator. Their is that and their is also the problem with people currently designing characters specifically to spite gamers as a whole which people are sick of.
Yet that didn't stop games like RDR or GTA4 selling well and being liked. And these games' protagonists weren't lookers, either. Good character design is more than just a pretty face.
You are forgetting that the only people who are mad at this are super online (rhymes with “tin cells”) who get visibly angry when the see a woman that isn’t unrealistically attractive. They are a very vocal minority online but in the real world the children who and mature adults who play video games will just buy it and accept that the protagonist doesn’t have to be a stand in for themselves. Her being slightly ugly is probably part of her character and will influence her interactions with people around her so I am interested to see where that leads.
@@blacksailsfan4life Exactly. Plus, the bar is set ridiculously high for women that we're looking at just an average looking female protag and everyone is calling her ugly or unattractive. Do you have a link to an interview where one of the developers confirms that's "why they made her ugly"? I can't speak for the developers, but for my part I don't like Barbies with sword. I prefer gritty fantasy. It's far more likely that the developers have a similar opinion than them making her "ugly" to please an imaginary crowd.

Small correction at 10:10, what the character does there with her sword is actually called a Mordhau (Murder Stroke) and is an actual technique in German Longsword. It was a technique mainly used against armored opponents where you can't strike the opponent with the blade so you instead use the hilt as a club.
yes, but normally you have a chain glove or something on while you do that. 😁 edit: also in medieval times swords often were not as sharp as people might think. they were sometime more used like a club, because sword could not penetrate most armors anyway. 2. edit: this was mostly joking 😜
I surmise they wore gauntlets or at the very least chainmail to grip onto the blade... grabbing a sharpened sword firmly enpgh to strike with it would destroy your finguers.
@@Balkoth07this is a huge misconception that swords in history being not shart and being used as a club. If you wanna use it at a club, why use a sword at all? Swords were extremely expensive back then and if you could afford one you would maintain it and keep it like a treasure. So if you were gonna use it only as a club anyway, why not get a club or hammer instead? it would be much cheaper. I think if ever it was smallsword blades that used to be dull or at least weren't sharpened directly because the smallsword has a triangular blade and was intended as a thrusting weapon, nimble and light so you could easily poke the gaps in an opponents armor. the triangular shape of the blade would help the thrusting capabilities of the smallsword. And you can in fact perform a Mordhau bare handed if you do it properly. There's a few videos showing it. Of course it's not advisable since especially in the heat of battle, accidents can happen and it's definitely better with gloves. But it's not impossible.
If i have to look at your face for multiple hours of cut scenes, should i not enjoy the face? Call me shallow, but i do genuinely believe God of War would've sold significantly less if Kratos was fugly.
Yea I think Luke is being hella disingenous. I wish he would stop that. I also hate when content creators react to "People who hate" in some vague type of way.
Shallow af. What a loser thing to say "Should i not enjoy the face?".. Don't think people are obsessed with kratos' appearance, its only when incels who've never touched a woman see a female character who is average/normal that it's an issue. Go play neir, stellar blade or the Witcher or something if you need a video game to make you feel less lonely. 😂
You are a Hero which means magical healing, boosted stamina ability - so yeah I can buy the lack of metal hand armour and why heroes still exist post the advent of gunpowder and flintlocks. The hero template acted as future proofing which plate mail and chain just didn't have in the real world
And that part of the sword may not be sharpened razor sharp and there is a particular grip you hold it with. I was quite impressed to see some half swording in a video game
i think its clear from the Heroes line at the end that the narrator is talking about the rival hero. Doesnt neccesarily mean you wont be locked in as a female but it leaves it open ended in my mind
This is going to be a character I have to look at for hours and hours. If I have to look at anything or anyone for that long I'd at least appreciate them being easy on the eyes regardless of which game it is or what their gender is
🙄 "easy on the eyes".. what a world we live in where people are so incredibly soft to the point a video game character needs to be "easy on the eyes" 😂 god gamers have gotten lame..
As long as it nails the core of Fable, which is the fantasy hero setting with British humor, and choices with character and world altering consequences, then I'm happy. The Fable games walked that line where you had dark themes, but you could also fart someone in the face, so if we can at least get some of that without being waterboarded with current year politics, it'll be a good time at least.
Idk maybe I'm just a weirdo but i don't agree with the sentiment that if the game is good then the look of the character doesn't matter. If I'm gonna put any amount of time into a game I want to like the look of the character I'm playing. Especially in an RPG where you are supposed to build and expand upon the character you've made for up to hundreds of hours. It's why I sometimes put hours into the character creation. Easiest way around it is ofc to just have a character creator that gives players the ability to choose their own look. And yes I know that Fable has never had a character creator but by the time it comes out we'll be pushing 2026 so maybe its about time. Would be disappointing if they didn't give players a choice in a game series all about choice.
At the very best this character might be in the lower nobility (like a baron's daughter, or something). It makes no sense for her to look like a super model. By the way, do you play God of War? Because Kratos is ugly as f*ck.
My problem is not this girl, my problem is that second time in a row they show something that doesn’t look like gameplay but more like a pre-render. Which kinda looks fishy. Also don’t really believe in 2025 release tbh. Gonna wait for more detailed gameplay showcase, something like new DA did.
Nothing about this is pre rendered lol it could look way better if it was pre rendered the game is over a year away they not going to do a deep dive into a gameplay until next year this is hiw publishers market most games stop acting like thus isn't the norm
The lines about knowing a female hero before etc, I heard more as him talking about a previous student (Most likely the "rival hero" who has "come back", who we see at the end). I think the reason they showed the player character during that diologue was most likely because they didn't want to spoil too much of the rival, but also as a way of mirroring them. Fable has always been about choice and morality, so it could be their way of saying "I knew someone like you once, but SHE made the wrong choices."
I think its a super valid reason. As the consumer you if you want the character to look pretty or you would not play it is completely reasonable. If this product wont supply your wish tonlook at a pretty character another one will. Go and play that instead.
I mean she can be worn and still good looking. Make it believable. She is a skinny female with a sword. Make her have at least a athletic build to her.
Side note. Fable has never had character creation… in 1 you play as the boy. In 2 and 3 you pick the boy or girl. But they are all set characters. You can change hair and clothes. But the models have always been set in stone. This is just a modern version of playing the sister from 2 or 3. lol. I don’t know why people are so mad.
@@Victoor2951 The first game only had the boy... This one has s sister.... It allows them to make the story more tailored to one specific character and really lock in to making this character high fidelity, which time and effort would've needed to be halved if they had two playable characters. The narrative they want to tell must be very specific to this character they have created. But allowing them to focus on this one character gives them the best chance to make a high quality story around this protagonist.

I did remember that fable 2 started off with your character being very ugly and as you become more pure (by being well liked) the character got more handsome.
Fun fact : blades like that didn't have super sharp edges back then it was a combination of making it sharp enough to intentionally cut with with and each not too thin and sharp to chip away too fast because if you made it too sharp it would chip faster and be easier to break hence why you find that most kills were from aiming for soft vital spots and stabbing And yes some swords they work like that it's an actual sword technique used for when you need to a blunt object to bypass armour that's stoping the blade swings and jabs
No, I think most people wouldn't call her ugly. You always get the extremes in the comment sections. While I would agree that in the first trailer she did look a bit off/stiff I actually thought she looked quite appealing in this one.
Me too! I feel like she looks normal. I feel like finally it will be immersive enough because she looks like a normal person I would meet around me, instead of highly beautified/sexualised female characters usually in video games. I am excited to play this game when it comes out!
It’s called half swording and is a common practice. If you place the blade in the creases of your finger joints and wrapped tightly, it creates a good grip, plus swords don’t need to be overly sharp because they have weight behind them.
Also, when done by a normal person, you would typically have some type of hand protection when using this technique. The person doing it here is a hero, though. Safe to assume they don't get cut quite as easily as a normal person lol.
I honestly don't care that the character is ugly...I care more about why they made her ugly....it's on purpose and a trend in games that I don't want to see more of.
“D E I 🎉 it’s in the game” It’s all about not offending specific groups. Can’t have a woman look like a woman anymore cause it could offend people who don’t look like that.
@@GusMix79 How does that make any sense when you have bunch of people online whining about how offended they are about the lack of attractiveness of the character ? lol
Fable 2 started off with your character being very unattractive. To get more attractive you have to be more pure (it’s a status you can get by lowering the rent of your properties or doing things to make others like you).
I honestly care THAT the character is ugly. It can be easily fixed with a character creator, so that everyone can make whatever character they want. Why they did it? I don't care about that. For me this isn't about culture war politics, the culture war is not my war. I don't want that imported in my country, because it would poison our society. I only have to look how much Americans hate one another over silly topics like CRT, DEI, genders, Disney and toys. Wherever the culture war goes, division and hate follow. It's clear the culture war never did anyone any good.
I believe we have just gotten use to the fact that games are just not built the way they use to be. It's crazy when a company with Millions of dollars can't put something into the game as little a character creation? Doesn't matter weather or not the old games had it, its been a decade they had time to think about something that small don't you think?
Do I find the main character bad? No, she looks fine. I will be annoyed if there is no character customization. Fable is well known for your character changing their weight, appearance, and even age depending on your decisions. After so many years, it would be a very dumb idea to not have character customization. But as Luke pointed out, stuff like that will probably be revealed later
True. But you always start with a base character model. You've never been able to customise the character right from the off. Only once you've progressed into adulthood
But that's off of the regular character model you choose. You can customize from the start to my knowledge. Who's to say the game won't have that mechanic
Fabel did not ever have a character creator just a male and female selection but I think in the frist game you just played a male character. But in all the games you could change and modify your characters afterwards.
Yea and ONLY clothes and hairstyle. The person was never editable. Aside from weight and alignment effects. Fable has a mandela effect on the customization lmao
Grabbing the blade is a real technique, it’s often called a murder stroke. And the reason you can do that is if you apply your grip it a way that doesn’t allow the sword to slide you won’t cut yourself. UA-camrs that know more about this than me would be Skalogrim or schologladiatoria if you are curious.
Fable has never had a character creator why are people saying it does you always play as a preset character someone correct me I do not remember there being one
I personally wouldn't look at what the old Fable games did or didn't have just on the account this has a significantly larger budget, two studios working on it and neither one of those studios had anything remotely to do with Lionhead. There's no reason to assume for example that Tomb Raider will be like the PS1 games or that if a random team picked up The Getaway that they wouldn't make it more like GTA as opposed to the more Mafia 1 style game it was. Even then games change. Fable 1 had a set protagonist. Fable 2 and 3 you could choose. The reasons they probably didn't have character creation in the older games was A. Budget and B. Your character physically morphed. Not only with food but also morality. We don't even know if that's a thing. If it is a character creator will be not only impossible but completely redundant. The best they could do is presets like in Hogwarts Legacy or Playgrounds very own Horizon series or something. If they don't have character morphing then it's entirely possible that someone at Playground decides to put it in to compete with other RPGs like BG, Dragons Dogma, TES, Kingdom of Amalur ect. They could do away with even being able to pick a gender and go with something like Assassins Creed, Horizon, The Witcher ect. We just don't know what these new developers will want to keep and want to change.
Luke, you said it yourself: games are escapism and if we're going to look at the escapism for hours we want it to look good i.e not ugly. It's not our problem they can't get this right. I honestly think you fell for whatever narrative they're going for instead of seeing the real issue here so the problem in that regard is you. Hope the gameplay is good though. You're right on that
Agreed. It's current year, can't we just have a character creator in every game. And it's starting to get anyoing being told I have a "problem" if I don't like a design choice, it's all subjective. If I don't like a certain painting I do not have a problem and am allowed to voice what I don't like about it.
@@JJJBunney001 Honestly, for me it is an issue. I need to like my character, to feel some attachment, to play a game. It's why a game having a character creator is one of my main expectations. It's a deal breaker if there's no character creation. Now, sure, it's ok not to care about this, but then again, we all look for different things in games.
People absolutely criticized Kratos for having a “dad’s bod” in nuGod of War, but more specifically they denounced Kratos’ character assasinstion, being made insensitive, weak, and similar personality traits. Men are targeted in different ways than women, often made to look and/or act more emasculated, while women are designed to be unfeminine. But both are being targeted for…deconstruction.

I appreciate Luke's consistency. He cares more about the gameplay than the look of the player character. Same as his take on Stellar Blade when the issue was about that MC being too sexualised/attractive.
There are western martial arts! The technique displayed here is called Mordhau and developed in what is now Germany - as historians we refer to the collective teachings of the German School of Fencing even though at the time it was known as the Holy Roman Empire. The earliest Manuals of Arts Martial from the area that are still around are from the 13th Century.
The game looks gorgeous. As far as the player character is concerned, I really couldn’t care less. She looks fine from what I can see. Hopefully they have a character creator for people that are hung up on her looks, but at the end of the day that isn’t an issue that bothers me.
Bro the her is the antagonist. He is basically just telling your character that he knew a girl. But when he describes her, they show your character doing similar things as the girl he once knew. This is diversion tactics from the creators. Im sure there will be character u can pick and hopefully you can customize hair, clothes and such similar to gta6 you have two set characters but u can customize them somewhat
Fable looks fantastic, I can’t wait to learn more. But if it plays as well as it looks, and has a great story, could be a critical hit. The model looks far better this time than last year, but I still think there should be a character creator, or at the very least multiple preset options
i agree with almost everything luke is saying, except the part of being shallow for not playing a game if you don't like the way something or someone looks. People can play a game (or not) for whatever reason there is. the only problem is saying that the game will be objectively bad because they don't like it. And you implying that the aesthetics of something are not important is a bit wrong, i think. I loved the trailer an video btw, i just felt that you tried to tell people what they should like and is not very nice.
He's definitely right though, his point was people bashing the game and saying it's bad and not wanting to play it because a character might look like this is kinda dumb
I think calling those individuals(who won't play game cuz woman ugly), to be shallow, was actually the NICE way to describe yhem. In reality, these are people who are kind of vapid, brainwashed by pr0n and often incels.
As others have said, you missed the context of everything Humphry was saying. It sounds like he's referring to the protagonist, but the sting at the end is meant to recontextualize everything he just said. He was actually referring to a previous apprentice who, in his view, made all the wrong choices and was both powerful and terrifying, which in Fable terms means she was Evil. What you're supposed to then draw from that is that the protagonist is basically mirroring that previous apprentice and has the potential to go down the same path, but he's not referring to her directly which does leave some room still open that there could be an alternate protagonist choice. And when the NPC's are talking to the Hero they used neutral terms which would cut down on the writing requirement for alternate protagonists, including non-binary individuals. I think what hurts most is that people just want information from the devs to assuage any concerns they may have or confirm their fears so that they don't spend the next 6 to 7 months until the inevitable Developer Direct being anxious about what may or may not be part of the game. The devs are just radio silent and they're not helping. Also, some people pointed this out, but the developers did tweak their marketing Hero's face a bit. Personally I think the hair is what does the character a disservice and if they just changed that then the reception to the design would be a lot better in my opinion.
Tbh i won't play it if i can't play a character i like. I identify a lot with the characters i play in these style of games. So if i can't make my own character or play one i find both visually appealing and appealing as a character then i won't play it. I refused to play TLOU2 due to having to play as Abby.
@@Aewon84 i loved God of War. And The Witcher. I don't mind playing male characters even if i prefer playing female. Also Kratos and Geralt are both cool and hot as fuck. Abby i found unappealing as a person and her design.
Playground Games is one of the very best games studios in the world and people are underestimating that. There's been so much hate on this game already. I rather expect Fable 4 to do the reverse of Cyberpunk or Starfield, where everyone's hating on it BEFORE it comes out, and it turns out to be great from day one.
When Humphrey is referring to she He's not talking about your character. He's talking about the antagonist. Because at the end, your character says oh, she's back, meaning the person he was just talking about
The video montage of your character, attacking creatures etcetera. While referring to she was just highlighting your character, making you feel like he's talking about you. But he's actually talking about the antagonist
Holding the blade part of the sword is a real technique, some tapestries show it being used. 🤓 I believe it was used against armored individuals, because blunt damage is better. 🤓
Humpfrey said, “This kid, she had it all. The skill. The talent. The power. She was something else, all right. She was terrifying. So, yeah. I knew this girl once who made all the wrong choices.”
The structure of Humpfrey’s words keeps “she” as the subject throughout, implying that the gameplay footage is the referred subject. However, the subject link to the gameplay girl is broken when "she" is putted again as the subject while she appears and says, “Humpfrey, she is back”.
I bet heavily on character creation. Think about it. The game industry has faced criticism for two decades over unrealistic female characters. But the trailer suggests you can be one of Humpfrey’s heroes.
Humpfrey is a hero coach. Two characters coached by him were shown: one good, one evil; one stylish and charismatic, the other terrifying; one with a fashion style suggesting weakness, the other suggesting power. The one in the gameplay footage looks bad. The developers are just given us the option about whom would represent us more.
Its very possible that youll be playing as this character weve seen in the trailers, but id bet that youll be able to customize the appearance (makeup, hair, clothing, tattoos etc). If that were the case, id be fine with it. As you said, as long as the game is good.
The graphics are probably legit. Playground Games made the Forza Horizon games, and they were beautiful. It could also explain why the game is taking so long, considering it is their first RPG
"It's about choices" You better give me freedom of choice to choose my build, playstyle, weight, tattoos and morality. As long as they keep all the same player options I had in the first 3 games, it could be fine.
Holding a blade isn't going to do anything to you unless you slice. Broadswords and others like it aren't that sharp. The weight and how you use it is what is going to make it do damage. So, you can grab one by the blade and bash something with it without hurting yourself. As long as you're holding it correctly.
Fable has never had a character creator. Only the ability to choose male or female. You CAN customize their hair, tattoos and clothing but that was it.
"I don't care, if the game is good". Luke, I'd agree with you for something purely gameplay-centered like Dark Souls. In those your character totally doesn't matter. But in a narrative, character-driven game like that the quality and appeal of your actual playing character is part of the "game being good".
see, when he says "i knew a girl" I thought he was talking about the rival hero at the end. my assumption will be you pick male/female like every fable, and that's the extent of character creation.
Let's not forget that we were wondering when they would put gameplay for Hellblade 2 and then we realized that the cinematics were the gameplay. I'm not saying that's the case here but it is the second time we get these combat sequences that look like mini cinematics after a finisher without any of the actual combat. To me thats a possible red flag.
All the fables never had a character creator but all the fables had costimition and fable 2 and 3 gave you a base male and female to choose from that you could also costimize. Based on the little details in the trailer i noticed and it being made by a new team they could do what fable 2 and 3 had or make a character creator i think itll be either or which id be fine with. they seem to be respecting the original material and the game looks really good so im excited and eager to see more like a guy on crack.
I really hope Ill be able to make my own character in this game. Sadly not having a at least fairly in depth character creator just kills games on the spot for me know.
Pretty sure that he is talking about the villain and not the playable character when he says, "I knew this one hero, I took her in." It's purposeful misdirection so I don't blame people for thinking otherwise. Also Fable never had a character creator FYI just a set character where you pick a gender then you can customize hair and they morph based on decisions/leveling. I hope we get the two options again all while I have no problem with how the girl looks.
Humphrey is referencing the rival hero, Not the playable character. I really don’t care if the went the fixed protagonist lane. (I think she will be fine). The gameplay loop, choices, combat and story are what matters.
@@Enasta98 It could be Theresa. I thought about this too.
This new fable you will be able to chose male or female. Heard it from an undead labs dev.
Luke likes to sound smart but his media literacy is pretty weak.
“She” is referring to the rival hero, the woman that talks at the end. IMO why would Humphrey be talking in past tense about the hero who walks up behind him in the present.
Also,”Rival Hero” is probably a named character, but they don’t want to spoil it
The PC literally comes in at the end and says 'she's back' ffs lmao 'Hero' in Fable was always what was used as an androgynous term to your character whether they're male, female, or whatever you choose to imagine in between.

Very true. I don’t need a character creator. I just want to be able to manipulate my character throughout the game (haircut, tattoos, piercings, clothes) and hopefully some new things like body type (muscular, slender, fat), gait, and height.
@@baddreams123451 only the second and third fable.
@@baddreams123451 Personally i would rather they just have one playable character and really tailor the story fully to her.
When sharing any greater message or theme could be considered an agenda… but people don’t care unless that message is something they don’t agree with.
i am 99% fable did not have a character creator at all in the original. and i kind of remember they were meant to be very average at the beginning
No actual character creator more due to the times, but had character customization.
@@cthefro People always get this mixed up. Fable had character 'development', not character customisation. Your Hero would 'evolve' over the course of the game depending on your morality choices, your stats, whether you ate a lot etc etc
What you COULD do was in-game buy different haircuts, or change clothes.
Nothing like the feeling of taking off your characters helmet after you forgot what you created and seeing a monster.

Apologies as I didn't see this before my comment - awesome that more and more people are getting to find out about the subject 😅
Regardless of that, even a sharp blade won't cut you unless you make a slash movement with it.

A few notes:
Fable never had a character creator.
Theresa died in that spin off kinect game Fable Journeys
Grabbing the blade part of the sword is something knights used to do, to have blunt damage
The first game had you only playing as a male character. Fable 2 was when the game started to let you choose yor gender. I think most people tend to forget that. But if the story and game itself is still good; then ill still be happy
Partially with the tech at the time. It would have been a lot longer to develop if they added a female character as you grow up through the ages.

They are a very vocal minority online but in the real world the children who and mature adults who play video games will just buy it and accept that the protagonist doesn’t have to be a stand in for themselves. Small correction at 10:10, what the character does there with her sword is actually called a Mordhau (Murder Stroke) and is an actual technique in German Longsword. It was a technique mainly used against armored opponents where you can't strike the opponent with the blade so you instead use the hilt as a club.
That said, was definitely an inappropriate time to use the technique.
yes, but normally you have a chain glove or something on while you do that. 😁

I’m pretty sure the dialogue describing the main character is actually in reference to the villain character teased at the end.

I did remember that fable 2 started off with your character being very ugly and as you become more pure (by being well liked) the character got more handsome.
Fun fact : blades like that didn't have super sharp edges back then it was a combination of making it sharp enough to intentionally cut with with and each not too thin and sharp to chip away too fast because if you made it too sharp it would chip faster and be easier to break hence why you find that most kills were from aiming for soft vital spots and stabbing

According to a sword historian on UA-cam, it actually wasn't that uncommon to grab a sword by the blade. They just didn't grip the edge.
Am I the only one who doesn’t think she’s ugly?
No, I think most people wouldn't call her ugly. You always get the extremes in the comment sections. While I would agree that in the first trailer she did look a bit off/stiff I actually thought she looked quite appealing in this one.
i don’t think she is either
Me too! I feel like she looks normal. I feel like finally it will be immersive enough because she looks like a normal person I would meet around me, instead of highly beautified/sexualised female characters usually in video games. I am excited to play this game when it comes out!
No, she looks completely average. She's not ugly.
If it was on purpose it's because it's old English humor and having beautiful characters just doesn't fit that

Even if you could customize the character,i doubt the option will even look good
She's probably just the default character like Fallout 4. There's probably a character creator

I can't play a game unless the character looks fuckable.

Ironically grabbing the sword in that way is a legitimate technique used in sword fighting (however I think the wielder is usually wearing gloves).

10:20 halfswording is a thing. Though, usually only when you have full armor.
Fable has never had a character creator why are people saying it does you always play as a preset character someone correct me I do not remember there being one
Out of all the three fables I play I don’t remember creating a character I remember in 3 i could choose to be a girl
People say that but they mean to say customization
As the one who's never know about any Fable games, I can't agree at all that this looks promising. Not until they show the gameplay later.
You're right on that
There is no issue, you guys are making it an issue. Fable characters have always looked ugly and she just looks like a normal person
Now, sure, it's ok not to care about this, but then again, we all look for different things in games.
i highly doubt you make this complaint when the protagonist is an unattractive dude like kratos
I wouldn’t even waste my bandwidth pirating this game 😂
You sure wasting it to watch a video about it
if I wanted to look like a troll, I would play real life... like seriously... I wan't to escape life... literally nobody asked for a fugly protagonist :s
Just say you're not a gamer and go play Madden
Go back to The Quartering's snooze club.
@@jamesf3881!
doubt you complain about unattractive protagonists when they are dudes
@@jamesf3881 you’re not a “gamer” either, you’re a consumer. You’re no different than a Madden fan consuming corporate slop and insulting people who don’t like what you like.
fable gas never had a character creator btw. In 2 and 3 you can choose between a male and female, with customization of clothing, hair, and accessories being throughout the game
Great time to add character customization and a character creator in a fantasy RPG game. Given how important the choices you make are.
He's talking about the villain, not the hero in the trailer. So I think a character creator is still on the table.
The model looks far better this time than last year, but I still think there should be a character creator, or at the very least multiple preset options
if i have no choice of player character, if she isn't hot i dont want her. but thats just me
I guess there's no need to be skeptical with this one, huh
He ist not talking about you. He talks about the "Rival-Hero". Its just that image that you have the same capabillitys as her.
i agree with almost everything luke is saying, except the part of being shallow for not playing a game if you don't like the way something or someone looks.
@@JJJBunney001 Exactly
So... did you play God of War? Because if you did I have to seriously question your standards for beauty.
@@Aewon84 i loved God of War. And The Witcher. I don't mind playing male characters even if i prefer playing female. Also Kratos and Geralt are both cool and hot as fuck. Abby i found unappealing as a person and her design.
I mean Rise of the Rōnin waited forever before they announced it would have a character creator 👀
1:03 exactly! Thank you lol
Holding the blade part of the sword is a real technique, some tapestries show it being used. 🤓 I believe it was used against armored individuals, because blunt damage is better. 🤓
I aint paying 70+ euros to play as a goblin
Fable continues to be everything it was. I bet on that.
Its very possible that youll be playing as this character weve seen in the trailers, but id bet that youll be able to customize the appearance (makeup, hair, clothing, tattoos etc).
If that were the case, id be fine with it. As you said, as long as the game is good.
10:40 - Has Luke never heard of half-swording?
The graphics are probably legit. Playground Games made the Forza Horizon games, and they were beautiful. It could also explain why the game is taking so long, considering it is their first RPG
I mean cyberpunk used a protagonist in the trailer and you still got to create your own character. Fable may be the same
I think she looks much improved from the previous reveal trailer.
The “she” Humphrey is referring to is def the “rival hero” that ‘wants to fix things’
It's a self insert by game director, looks great, can't wait to play it
Luke, google half-swording :)
"It's about choices"
You better give me freedom of choice to choose my build, playstyle, weight, tattoos and morality.
As long as they keep all the same player options I had in the first 3 games, it could be fine.
You aren't entitled to have a character creator in every game you didn't have options in the first game
@@ojerico6097good same for my positive publicity and money
Holding a blade isn't going to do anything to you unless you slice.
Broadswords and others like it aren't that sharp. The weight and how you use it is what is going to make it do damage.
So, you can grab one by the blade and bash something with it without hurting yourself. As long as you're holding it correctly.
Fable has never had a character creator. Only the ability to choose male or female. You CAN customize their hair, tattoos and clothing but that was it.
I believe certain swords werent that sharp. Because you couldnt cut a knights armour. So they we're Made to have Impact
10:00 its a legit move... but yes its done with gloves.
"I don't care, if the game is good".
Luke, I'd agree with you for something purely gameplay-centered like Dark Souls. In those your character totally doesn't matter. But in a narrative, character-driven game like that the quality and appeal of your actual playing character is part of the "game being good".
who walks into a store to buy a game anymore? last time i bought a physical game was Witcher 3. Did Fable 3 have character creations? Cant remember.
It didn't. You could only choose the sex of the character, but that was it.
see, when he says "i knew a girl" I thought he was talking about the rival hero at the end. my assumption will be you pick male/female like every fable, and that's the extent of character creation.
They changed the appearance slightly from the trailer one year ago, made her less ugly a little
I think it will be similar to cyberpunk on how character creation works
I really hope Ill be able to make my own character in this game. Sadly not having a at least fairly in depth character creator just kills games on the spot for me know.
I’ll play the game if it’s good regardless. But I want to be a male version.. with male amour and customizable options
I hope we get the two options again all while I have no problem with how the girl looks.
in game doesn't mean gameplay. those are all cut scenes.
Humphrey is referencing the rival hero, Not the playable character.
I really don’t care if the went the fixed protagonist lane. (I think she will be fine). The gameplay loop, choices, combat and story are what matters.
