Surprised Gem Fighter's (Semi Story Mode) Arcade Mode will be more enjoyable and had better replay value than SFV's Story Mode. Those were the times that Capcom does unique ideas for fighting games. It had better Gem System Design Wise than a SFxTekken that is trying to milk our wallets.
yea Max this game is hard the A.I is the same as SFA1 I have tip for you always get the Red Gem to upgrade the Fireball to lv3 then spam it the A.I always run towards it making them dizzy then do the mighty combo (super) against them rinse and repeat it's cheap I know that's what I did back at the arcades. note except Ibuki and Lei-Lei Ibuki will do her penguin kick which is annoying yup Lei-lei will reflect it so what out for those two characters.
I had this game on the PlayStation way back when as a kid. I loved this game. All these years later and it's sad to see this has more charm and character then the games we have today. ffs
Lawlz at chibi Tessa using Mai Ling as a human shield, Bison on a sledge, DeeJay mixing drinks like a pro, June Lin Milliam as a waitress, Leo (not Whitefang, I'm referring to the Red Earth character) chilling near the fireplace next to Lilith and Demitri going "WHEEEEEEEEEEE" and sliding across the dancing room in his castle, while MidnightBlissed Jedah stares at him. This is also where Banpresto/Namco got their ideas for Felicia's assist in Project X Zone 2 Old age Capcom at its finest, when they were bursting with creativity. Nowadays, they've become a joke
+MetalPcAngel You mean, When Capcom cared about their other Fighting Game franchises other than SF and tried to make their other games popular not expecting an insane amount of sells for continue to supporting them
Back when the arcade ruled the earth, Capcom the old capcom died with the the sucess of the modern Day console, all the dlc and bullshit who came after was the result of the people wanting this games on home.
+southsideroy Oh, are you referring to her pink costume whenever she does a combo? That would be a reference to June Lin Milliam from Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword, whose specialty is hitting people with her butt. Literally
Are we just going to ignore the rather adorable chibi Bison who's sledding and ice skating in the background around 14:00? Cuz...that's fucking amazing.
Just some little helpers in case you come back to it :) - There is NO chip damage in this game, even from supers. If you block successfully, you can eat any blockable super with 1 pixel of life and survive - Remember, the only buttons are punch, kick, and super - Supers can be done Alpha style OR with the standard motion + Super (e.g. QCFx2+P and QCF+S have the same effect) - Dan and Akuma are hidden in the corners on the top row. No special code needed, just move the cursor there. - Dan is actually viable, for two reasons: He is useless at long range (as usual), but decent up close (Gem Lv3 QCB+K is rather nice)...and this game encourages you to stay close. Also, he has a raging demon (P, P, =>, K, S) that does *not* hurt him. Yes, he still has a super taunt. Good luck with that. - Akuma has two raging demons: One the normal way ^ , the other is a half-circle with S. You see some of the hits on one of them. Morrigan's Darkness Illusion, same commands, but she only gets one animation. - Costume change combos are what they *really* want you to do. Most begin with standing neutral P. Vary them up, toss in the occasional quarter-second pause after the first or second hit, try down and K or P on hit 2 or 3, etc, and see what happens. - Don't attack the flying red guys. The others are fair game. - The AI is indeed a cheating bastard x.x
+Sitrush agreed, it was so anime like and funny, and each button combination did a different combo, also why its better then SF5 is because it used the old school sfx for eg. block (good childhood memories, the alpha series was the best) it also had interactable objects like you can hit the guy in the clouds
Music on this game was awesome. Loved the move when you hit someone really hard and you send them flying around the world and landed on the other side of the stage. This game is amazing.
Back when Capcom wasn't all super serious about everything. Hell, even in Resident Evil 2, I saw you could play as a big piece of tofu. If they do make a MvC 4, I hope they make it super over the top and cartooney just like MvC 2...That, and I also hope they complete it before releasing it.
Gosh, Max made this seem like a Boss Rage than a trip to nostalgia. He even set the computer difficulty to Expert and lost because he wanted to pull a Super. (Yun) Also, "were?" Is the Street Fighter Legacy over? I thought EX3 was going to be covered as well as some from Street Fighter 4.
I just love how I can glance away for a split second to see who's in the background and when I look back Chun-li is directing a parade of bike traffic to run over Ibuki. Classic Street Fighter.
The skeleton K.O animation is a reference to Ghosts N Goblins, which is how Arthur dies in pretty much every Ghosts N Goblins game. The jumping into water K.O animation may be a reference to Super Mario Brothers, as this is how Mario dies. Finally, the split second Zangief turns into a gorilla may be a reference to Donkey Kong. They both look quite similar.
+Digishade Lol they did in a way. Gief has a move where he can irish whip opponents into the wall and combo after it like Mika. And hsien-ko has a move where she can throw out multiple projectiles one after the other in short bursts like guiles v-trigger.
Oh my GOD! It's been so long since I saw this game! We had it in my local arcade and I used to play it sometimes (there was also a Marvel vs Capcom cabinet so you can probably guess where I burned most tokens).
Yeah I agree this game is charming af. I’ve always love this game and how many references there are in the transformations and backgrounds plus the 2D capcom style art. So adorable and cute!
-I'm sad that there was never a Part 2 of this specific play-through.- *Edit:* Oh. "KEN'S GIANT HORSE" actually _is_ Part 2. Whoops. I miss arcade mode, I can't wait for SFV to get more single player content. I bought it day one played it and haven't touched it sense. Don't get me wrong I like SFV and the game play is awesome but I like to play with everyone in arcade mode, learn the characters, find one I really like tackle arcade mode on it's hardest difficulty then dive in online. Do developers/companies really think story or a good single player experience is a waste of time? PvP isn't the only thing ppl want. ( Or is it?)
this was the first fighting game i ever played, god the memories from the arcades! i got introduced to morrigan in this game too! (morrigan is my best char in e every game she appears)
omg I absolutely ADORED this game in the arcade days. It was just so cute and fun, tho it was super rare and cabs came and went a lot (especially in Aus qq)! Love you for giving it some well deserved exposure Maxy
Thanks for the great memories, I used to play this all the time on PS as a kid! One question that I've always had was did they actually make a sequel called "Pocket Fighter II: The Revenge Of The New Challengers?" I remember someone telling me Capcom made a sequel on Japan arcades only. I have not seen and images or videos of it ever, so I'm wondering, is there actually a sequel!?!
This game is freaking incredible, Capcom should make some kind of sequel to this game, it's so good!
AGREED👍
I'm really starting to want to collect Sega Saturn stuff and this is definitely one of the first games I want to get.

+MegaMarcoX15 lol
Sempai fhacking notice me! -_- XD
Every single stage has about 90% of the characters doing dumb shit, I love this game.
It's a special kind of hurt when the penguin doesn't want your love letter.
Seeing Bison enjoy sledding warms my heart :D
+Black Duck psycho weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
THIS PLACE SHALL BECOME YOUR *WEEEEEEEEEEE!*
I smell a Boss Rage incoming. Max should do it as Morrigan or Felicia as tribute and hope for bringing a new Darkstalkers out finally!

Well, money changes people.
Sam Just
Or maybe the gamers that buy the shallow titles Capcom releases. Just look at the sales for the Resi 5 & 6
Hop on Fightcade we have a competitive scene for this game in there

Best pronunciation of Chun-Li's Spinning Bird Kick. 10/10.
agreed. lmfao

Imagine if capcom started acting like how they were in the 90s
I'd be so broke...
+kitsunez All my money, man.
kitsunez a million versions of street fighters V every 3 months
Hell no
I thought I had hallucinated this game as a child but now I know I wasn't wrong. Thank god.
"DEE JAY, MIX THOSE FUCKING DRINKS" There's something about that line that I simply love.

+Rafa Santos This game cheats.

When Crap'om loved and cared for it's fans.
I miss those times. . .
+MetalPcAngel Cashom?
+MetalPcAngel You mean, When Capcom cared about their other Fighting Game franchises other than SF and tried to make their other games popular not expecting an insane amount of sells for continue to supporting them
+Ciccio Imberlicchio Back when Crapcum did not sell halfbaked games. They make WB and Konami look good nowadays
Back when the arcade ruled the earth, Capcom the old capcom died with the the sucess of the modern Day console, all the dlc and bullshit who came after was the result of the people wanting this games on home.
Don't blame Capcom blame us, we killed the arcades.
lol at crawling Rolento while he eats noodles.
+southsideroy omg yea lol
+southsideroy For me it was Bison using his Psycho power to go sledding
+southsideroy Vega trying to ski with his claws
+southsideroy Oh, are you referring to her pink costume whenever she does a combo? That would be a reference to June Lin Milliam from Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword, whose specialty is hitting people with her butt. Literally
***** Yea that, we'll go with your explanation lol
2:17 - Drat! I've been beaten by the Power of Love!
PLEASE GIVE US A POCKET FIGHTER BOSS RAGE!!!!!!!!!
+Jose Sousa But, who would the boss be? Dan?
+David “SkaSkull” Mason No that's Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. And in this game, the arcade stories for each character have different final bosses.
Are we just going to ignore the rather adorable chibi Bison who's sledding and ice skating in the background around 14:00? Cuz...that's fucking amazing.

EricTheKei isn't it always?
Talk about a game that could use an HD rerelease. These are still the most adorable sprites ever.
I remember having the Alpha Anthology and it had this on it. This was one of the ones I played the most out of all the games on the disc
I'm surprised that Max didn't pick Ken
IKR
+Peedi Piper And that's why he lost. He should've known to never count on boring ass Chun-Li.
rockmenx8xx Chun-li is badass
Peedi Piper Always losing to the guy that killed your dad is badass?
***** And how many cops can throw fireballs, Dumbass?
I am going to say this POCKET FIGHTER>SF5
+Sitrush agreed, it was so anime like and funny, and each button combination did a different combo, also why its better then SF5 is because it used the old school sfx for eg. block (good childhood memories, the alpha series was the best) it also had interactable objects like you can hit the guy in the clouds

Back when the arcades were profitable the modern console market isn't reliable anymore for games like this.

That shouldn't stop em. If a game like Smash Bros. can succeed, I'm sure some like this can.

Oh maaaaan, I loved this game so much as a child (and still do)! It''s really fun and charming
This game looks super fun.
Thanks Max, went and bought it immediatly on the PSN.
10:37 Fun fact, somebody made a version of Zangief with that wrestling costume for MUGEN, it's named Red Cyclone.
this game had so much charm i love it
This game is so good! Remake this Game!!! CapCom! Also Max would you consider playing MUGEN?
Yes.
why this never got a sequel is tragic.
Screw Marvel 4, make a sequel to THIS.
We should have both
+Tom Emery Was about to comment that, but I was glad I wasnt the only one.
(Can we have both plz Capcomchan?)
In an ideal world both would be perfect. But let's be honest, Pocket Fighter 2 is a one in a million thing.
Ah when Capcom was bursting with creativity...good times.
I got this game for the original PlayStation. Max finally listened to me when I asked for this. Next is Super Puzzle Fighter. The nostalgia is real.
"fuckin' pompoms and shit" 14:05
Liking the characters in the background just doing whatever they want. :)
I smell a boss rage in the future
I just love how I can glance away for a split second to see who's in the background and when I look back Chun-li is directing a parade of bike traffic to run over Ibuki. Classic Street Fighter.
Why did i just now realize that Felicia intro was a reference to Jon Talbain in Nightwarriors
You got spoiled. Old school AI don't fuck around!!
Ah man haven't played this game in awhile! Nice to see it again. Your commentary is funny! lol good stuff.
It could also be him, but I wear I thought I saw some sort of swirl on top of his head, which is what Donkey Kong has.
+TheShadowJester99 Considering he attacks with an axe, it's most likely a ference to Gamof, the yeti/wookie guy from Star Gladiator
***** True.
Ohhh my goood! One of my favourite games ever! Playing this as a kid was a dream come true!
Shit, this game has so much style, it hurts.
Capcom should've taken notes and copied this shit for SFV.
+Digishade Lol they did in a way. Gief has a move where he can irish whip opponents into the wall and combo after it like Mika. And hsien-ko has a move where she can throw out multiple projectiles one after the other in short bursts like guiles v-trigger.
+Psymonised He mean't putting effort into the game to make it look less bland.
This video was hilarious! Love the commentary. lol Brought back good memories!
I had never heard of this game before this vid... Only a minute into a video did I fall in love with it...
I have so many good memories of this game.
now I see why you want a capcom vs capcom game
cammy bouncing on that stool in the first stage is killing me
Would love for this game to get a PC port with online multiplayer.
+DNAngel You can using fightcade.
Progearspec I'd prefer to support Capcom with my money (if they ever port the game to Steam).
I thought the love letter thing only worked on the boy characters!
Oh my GOD! It's been so long since I saw this game! We had it in my local arcade and I used to play it sometimes (there was also a Marvel vs Capcom cabinet so you can probably guess where I burned most tokens).
HOLY! throwback man! i played this game back then on my ps1 :')
I think my favorite thing about this game are the stages. Fucking hilarious
Yeah I agree this game is charming af. I’ve always love this game and how many references there are in the transformations and backgrounds plus the 2D capcom style art. So adorable and cute!
This game is so cute and stylish! Every cameo I see from the Capcom games just made me smile.

Love this game. So happy when I saw this game came out since I'm a huge fan of puzzle fighter and their chibiness.
+Sting Kun You might want to reread what I wrote but thank you captain obvious.
Dude, I loved this game! My friends and I used to play it all the time
You have no idea how many hours I've spend playing Pocket Fighters when it first came out. Even this game is more enjoyable than SFV.
This was one of my favorites back in the day.

Love this game. Just got it for Saturn, last month.
Heh heh. They sure don't make fighting games with this much charm nowadays.
thanks for this Max! i miss this game, laughing so hard
Wasnt this on the ps1 before or was that a different pocket fighter game?
It was, but the ps1 port is different to this, this is the Arcade rom, it scale better on term of image quality.
I remember maining the witch lady. Was that Tsubaki or Thesa? Gosh, it's been so long!
I should maybe do a series for this when I up my system.
+TheCaliMack I mained Tabasa/ Tessa as well. Reverie Blade is cray.
What year is it made again? It aged pretty well... would be considered a new game if it were to be released like this.
OMG, I remember this game, I had it for my PS1. This was my favorite game. :)
My god, I loved Puzzle Fighter but I didn't know this existed. It's so cute!
This is one adorable fighting game and it's kicking Max's ass.
About as close to a decent capcom all stars we're ever going to get. -.-
I played the shit out of this and MvC when I was a kid. Fucking miss those golden days of fighting games.
Thanks for the great memories, I used to play this all the time on PS as a kid!
