Queen did a huge tribute concert about 5 months after Freddie died. Everyone they invited to participate accepted. Freddie was a generous down to earth humble guy who was loved by many. Actually, the whole group had the reputation as being “Very approachable”. They didn’t have “airs” about themselves. They were very intelligent. They were the only group that all members had degrees. Brian is Dr May,having a PhD in Astrophysics. Roger has a masters in Biology, John has his masters in engineering and Freddie has his in Graohic artistry. Freddie was an incredible artist. He drew the Queen logo with the huge lion and the all the figures are the members astrological sign. He also had a book of sketches relating to fashion. Just to let you know, Freddie’s birthday is coming up on September 5th. I thought maybe it might be nice to react to The Show Must Go On, which is the last song on the last album they did while Freddie was still alive - Innuendo. Just an idea to celebrate his birthday.
I've heard that quote before, about the singers at the Tribute Concert changing the keys of the songs because: "People just CAN'T do a Freddie!" (and the last time I re-watched George Michael's (WONDERFUL) rendition of "Somebody To Love", I did notice that when Brian did his guitar solo, it was in a lower key)....Now I'll have to remember that it was Robert Plant who said it!
Freddie loved Zep. Love Plant showing his respect for Freddie & Queen by performing at his Tribute. Class Act, Robert Plant . Also, Roger Daltrey did much justice to Queens, “I Want It All”! Great tribute concert by all who were there.
The interviews were recorded at the time Queen did THE FREDDIE MERCURY TRIBUTE CONCERT..Roger put it together, they had a list of artists and then there were artists who'd call up and asked to perform....
We are the Champions was not about them, it was about everybody, it was about us as a human race being champions for the world. I love Queen and there was no one better as a frontman than Freddie, and vocally he is unmatched.
Queen was treated very badly by the British music press. They were especially hard on Freddie; one article was entitled "Is This Man a Prat?" They were also savaged by Rolling Stone. So when Queen became virtually the biggest band in the world is it any wonder that Freddie wrote We Are The Champions? They were respected by their peers for the most part. Kurt Cobain said in his suicide note that he wished he could have enjoyed performing like Freddie. By the way, David Bowie had to go on after Queen at Live Aid. I'm sure he was not pleased.
You absolutely have to watch the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. April 20, 1992 5 months after Freddie's death. Brian was very depressed at the time but Roger starting calling friends of theirs to play at a tribute concert and Brian said "if you can get all them I'll be there!" The best singer was George Michael singing Somebody To Love buts lots of others stood out like Lisa Stansfield singing I Want To Break Free, Joe Elliott and Slash doing Tie Your Mother Down, James Hetfield and Tony Iommi doing Stone Cold Crazy, and David Bowie with Mick Ronson and Ian Hunter doing All The Young Dudes and Heroes. They thought Axl Rose might not show because he didn't come to rehearsals but he did and sang a great version of We Will Rock You. A must see!
The tribute concert was at Wembley of course and was massive. Have you heard of the band "Extreme"? They did a really nice tribute medley to Queen at the tribute concert. They were asked to do their own music because there were Queen song tributes planned to be played with Queen later but Extreme loved Queen and basically insisted on doing a Queen medley. It was awesome. There's an interview about Queen's influence on them somewhere on youtube and they talk about the tribute they did. The whole concert is worth viewing but the best performances IMO were Extreme, George Michael, Bowie, and Elton John and Axl Rose. Extreme and Foo Fighters have incorporated a lot of Queen traits into their bands. Looking back on that concert, Foo Fighters weren't there which surprises me. They must have had a scheduling conflict or something because they are die-hard Queen fans. In fact, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and Roger's son Rufus Taylor are going to play in the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at Wembley on Sept. 3, 2022. Thanks for the reaction!
It was a HUGE Tribute!! Best thing was George Michael singing Somebody To Love !!! So emotional and the audience all emotional !! The four of them were approachable and sweet in real life… nothing like their stage persona ! Have always been annoyed when “ what’s his name” said Freddie is ugly ( I’m sure it was a joke ) Freddie was gorgeous and has droves of fans who adore him 🥰♥️
Gotta watch The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert 1992. My favorite performances are James Hetfield (Stone Cold Crazy) Joe Elliott (Tie Your Mother Down) Roger Daltrey (I Want It All) Axl Rose (We Will Rock You) George Michael (Somebody To Love). ❤️💚🧡💙💛💜
Fun to catch these with you. Hope you will be the first to do the Saturday Night Live Queen segment (2 songs, only US live TV gig). Bigger than life, jammed on a postage size stage...given Freddie lost his voice the night before it was tough going. There is no flirting with the audience. He is somber, sharp and determined. The rawness of the performance grips you, it:s on edge. John never looked sweeter - as though putting on a happy face to make behind the scenes tensions melt.
Queen were not pretentious, you often hear that claim against progressive rock bands. They never took themselves too seriously, Freddie had a massive sense of humour. I think you have heard Freddie's sense of humour in his music. Freddie basically said that his music is disposable and people can disregard it in 5 minutes. There are artists who take themselves very seriously, and who describes their music in a very profound fashion in long paragraphs. That is fine, Freddie practically never even explained his music, he was really actually very humble. We Are Champions are suppose to be sung by a whole crowd of people, meaning that everyone is a champion. And interestingly enough if you look at the chords and structure of song, it actually has more emphasis on the idea that we have won this battle, but we have to keep on trying, and we have too keep it up. Status Quo toured with Queen for a while, they were part of Queen's openers, so they had relationship with a lot of banter. John Entwistle and John Deacon was also friends, that is why he said something about playing a heavier bass. The Freddie Mercury tribute concert was almost as big as Live Aid, it was watched around the world by 1.4 billion people.
not sure when Rossi/parfitt interview was taken but he probably wasn't saying ' ugly one' in a humorous fun way as many people at the time he seemed homophobic 85 Live Aid there was an issue between them. articles claiming Rossi turned up selling drugs and was high. I can't re find them but Rossi admitted himself he said slurrs to Freddie he shouldn't have homophobic he also said I thought all gay men were weak, probably why he thought he could get away with what he said thinking Freddie wouldn't or couldn't defend himself Freddie put him in a head lock ' don't worry darling I don't want to fk you!' not to hurt him but just to stand up for himself and put Rossi in his place also to show others to back off I think Rossi said he wasn't expecting him to be strong, he couldn't get out of that head lock so luckily Freddie didn't want to hurt him, Rossi said because he could have easily if he had wanted to after Freddies death Rossi tried to put a different spin on the story but people had seen Rossi being homophobic and him admitting to it and explaining the situation, but Freddie wasn't around to defend himself 86 Status Quo was support to Queen for their kind of magic tour, one gig? I can't re find the original videos or statements from Rossi about the issue but have seen them ' the ugly one' well there were plenty of people who thought he was very good looking, also charm, personality, character, confidence that makes someone attractive and sexy
Bono also tried to re tell meeting Freddie at Live Aid implying he was very camp then realised well they are called Queen I should have realsied. Bono said he was with his wife and Freddie came up to him putting his arm on the wall and implying he was trying it on with him and was a bit uncomfortable there's pictures of Freddie sitting down with someone and Bono had obviously came up to them and put his arms around them Freddie didn't seem that happy I think there's another picture of Bono with Freddie and this would have been after Live Aid I think some people want to be negative so not to put homophobic people against them had they said they liked him... at least that's how it comes across but when Freddies mother accepted an award for Freddie Bono stood up clapped and was respectful at least
Well when you are the greatest your ego size matches your talent. Also, are every sport champions' egoistic for playing this song in every trophy won for the past 35 years? coz if so then there are many egomaniacs in the word today. some are very famous athletes
Well I think if you look out for back stage footage of the Wembley magic tour gig 86 you will see Mick Jagger in deep conversation with Freddie, so I don't think that is true.
@@jodawson5268 I have read it in some book and also heard from people around Queen like Peter Freestone, Rudi Dolezal and also some comments from RS were so disrespectful , then I don ´t know…I have this in my memory, I was really surprised. I have seen this backstage💛

Yes, there was a tribute concert where many artists sang Queen songs. Worth a watch! Love these people talking about Freddie. ♥️🕊

Thank you, it was most definitely not about their ego.

The Foo Fighters did not exist at the time.

John Deacon came up with the beat , they went for a pizza and when they came back Deaky forgot it, but Roger remembered it
You should react to the FM tribute concert. Some great performances.
That’s so funny! Jeff Beck DOES look and sound like Nigel Tufnel (played by Christopher Guest) from Spinal Tap!
every QUAL revue is a tribute concert.
I understood 72000 were at the stadium and one billion watched it on TV in 76 countries.

not to hurt him but just to stand up for himself and put Rossi in his place also to show others to back off I think
Rossi said he wasn't expecting him to be strong, he couldn't get out of that head lock so luckily Freddie didn't want to hurt him, Rossi said because he could have easily if he had wanted to
