I can’t even imagine doing my hair as often as most natural hair youtubers... you guys are the real mvps frfr. I do a complete wash day once a week and I also have my daughters head to do. Sometimes when I’m my hair is going thru it I’ll cowash and (rinse out) condition then moisturize/seal mid week and twist it up and leave it be.

You could do a “brand of the month” and just stick with that brand until it’s gone while doing different styles with it for you tube. Just a thought.

    • @lesliestone1127

I agree. An influencer that I follow sometimes sticks to one brand a month to give her followers a better idea of how well something works after consistent use. Another influencer I used to follow had to do a big chop because she couldn't determine the source of the problem and then went right back to using different products every three days.

Why me and my best friend was just having this conversation yesterday?? I said to her youTube is really difficult these days as far as products, because so many different products are reviewed by the same person from week to week that you really can't even tell if that product actually works or not. The best way to review a product is to use it over time which everybody knows with natural hair, routine, and maintenance is what really helps it grow. So many people want so many products that that's the gimmick, but this is a great suggestion, " product of the month" will really give the viewers a great measurement of the different products And then you can use the different products in different ways that month and you can discover the depth of that one product.

    • @UptightCurlsbyAmanda
      @UptightCurlsbyAmanda 4 роки тому +2

@@Ebonyides completely agree with this. i'm new to the youtube channel game but i just finished a "duel wash day" series where i put my products against each other each week in an elimination-style tournament to figure out which products worked best in my hair. had me using the same products (or at least brand) for like 5 weeks in a row so i really got a chance to see what was really good. definitely recommend that approach. otherwise the one-off product reviews, i agree, don't hold a TON of weight. although i do think they are helpful in their own right ;)

Lord the last person I remember saying "UA-cam ruined my hair" was dragged. Hey girl, I totally feel you! I’ve been feeling as though my hair has been kinda stagnant in terms of growth. I was using too much products with protein and that’s why my hair was breaking. Now that that’s corrected, I decided to go back to doing mini twists because that’s what helps my hair retain the most length. Literally installed some braids to stretch my hair for the mini twists I will rock for a few weeks!
I want to encourage you to vent to us! We’re your family and we love YOU, not just your videos! I will not lie to you sis.. we all hit peaks like this with Our Natural Hair. May I just say.. with our hair it has memory, also known as bands. Sometimes when you use a lot of different products the cuticle's memory can be thrown off. It can also disturb your pH or hairs porosity, and cause imbalance.
Try to a hot oil treatment with oils that are high in Terpenes, or an Amla treatment. If you deep condition try rotating no more than a couple deep conditioners until you rebuild your moisture levels back up. When was your last trim or dusting? As this will help too.

Have you thought of going to a curl artist before you do a strong protein treatment? A strong protein treatment could really damage your hair because if your hair already is dry a strong protein treatment will make it dryer. You could try not letting a curl artist cut your hair for your initial appointment and let them give you a deeeeeep cleanse (also check for hard water in your home so if that's an issue they can use a chelating cleanser) like a reset and they define your curls. If they are really good they could help guide you with a regimen in terms of products and procedures.

I think the biggest culprit is the product junkieism tho. Trying out so many products while 50% of them leave ur hair dry. It's probably similar to only moisturizing ur hair 2x a month instead of 4 or more times and then the dryness leads to breakage. only review what u want to & what u think will work for ur hair. We will appreciate any product reviews and don't want u sacrificing ur hair health for views. Also when something doesn't work maybe consider selling it on posh mark or something and don't force ur self to finish it. And do more informative vids rather than product reviews to balance ur content (fave brands, fave products from brands, product stash, natural hair anti haul, etc)

I got a devacut end of june this and Lately I’m seeing my ends thinning out/not curling up. So a professional natural hair stylist said that its normal but could be due to dehydration. Girl, she spoke to my spirit when she mentioned that. I have the same issue in that same damn spot!
I think it might be an issue with the scalp at this point. That part of my scalp is also the driest, so I moisturize the roots every other day religiously with water and my favorite light oil.
Light oil is to avoid build-up. I don't drench w/ water, so as to avoid hydral fatigue. I just mist til its damp, then seal with oil. My new growth has been thriving. For the length of the hair, I just do the LCO/LOC method as needed until wash day. I found that the more I expose that area of my scalp to water, the less dry it is. I went from washing my hair once every 2 weeks to once a week and saw major improvements.
Bottom line: Whatever you use to keep your hair moisturized, do that and NEVER let that area get dry and brittle.

SSKs are the bane of my existence. And also having some breakage. I know my hair toward the end is thinner than the hair at the top. So I make sure to trim my hair regularly because it is growing out thicker. And I did flat iron for about a year or two recently and have stopped for about a year now. And that probably has contributed to some of my thinning at the ends of my hair. I get split ends. SSKs. You could do a "big chop" but maybe just on the lower half of your hair. I am trying to find better products. Water hardness is something I can't really control. A lot of us are experiencing a lot more stress. It is probably best not to try so many new products. Or to be aware of ingredients that might not work with your hair (e.g. horsetail extract, glycerin/humectants--can lead to moisture loss in humid environments, coconut oil, aloe vera, etc.). And yeah I think most of us could use a regular protein treatment (once a month to every 3 months or so). And yes, sharp scissors. I will try to replace mine as needed. I prefer good quality ones that can cost around $24. And our hair is often a mix of densities, types and porosity. I think I also have a few sections that are harder for me to deal with. The back part is usually my favorite to wash and style.

So for example, I use all previously used (and liked!) products except for one that may be new or never tried. health issue can cause issues with your hair too , like anemia, and thyroid problems lead to thinning hair . I also agree sometimes too many products at once can cause breakage. My hair been growing by keeping a routine , like try to only use the same products , and deep condition routine. I use old school hair mayonnaise as my main deep conditioner, but I alternate with a moisturizing deep conditioners every few weeks for protein balance.

I appreciate your well thought out approach to your hair. I echo a lot of the previous comments; clarify your hair more frequently, try hot oil treatments for dryness, get a good trim, reduce your use of unfamiliar products. Be careful with the Aphoghee 2 step protein treatment. Even though you’re not protein sensitive, it may be too strong for your hair. It’s intended for more seriously damaged hair. Perhaps try the 2 minute reconstructor first before trying the 2 step treatment.

Switching up products all the time can be detrimental to the hair; even if the products are great. I learnt my lessons the hard way. Now I only do product reviews once in a while but for the most part, I use what I know works for my hair. Even when testing out products and doing reviews, I try to stick with products that have similar ingredients to what I'm currently using. I think you should just go back to what you know, your hair will bounce back to normal soon after a few trims.

(Oops, I previously left this comment under the wrong video.) I've had major hair setbacks. It's important to keep things in perspective but it's also okay to want your hair to look nice. Maybe try a different approach & minimize the protein. Sometimes products just stop working for you. I had to stop using The Mane Choice Type 4 shampoo & dc. Dryness, tangles & knots-no benefits. I do use their Egyptian Gold split end treatment which really does seem to work. Because of the pandemic I had to resort to Etsy to find effective dcs. I found a great banana chebe dc & a great fenugreek dc. I look for products that contain herbal roots (marshmallow, ginger, horsetail), slippery elm & ayurvedic ingredients. I also use Shikaki powder occasionally which has strengthened my hair. Developing a solid regimen has been most beneficial. I don't use oil on my hair because the products already contain oil-no added benefits for me. A really good moisturizing DC is essential. 30 min with a thermal cap is all my hair needs & my twists have to remain uncovered & be mostly dry before going to bed or else my hair will have a slightly dry, more shrunken look with some frizz. Dryness is a part of natural hair for many of us. I need to keep my sunroof closed. My problem area is the top of my head where I have newer hair growth that's dry. I need to keep my car sunroof closed. Good video.

Thank you for speaking up. After months of going through my 'natural' hair journey I realized my hair became dry, shrink up like a Brillo pad and riddled with single stand knots. I kept cutting with professional shears and they just kept reforming. I NEVER had single stand knots before and thought back to the last time I didn't have those problems and it was before I started going "silicone free". I decided to go back to silicones. My hair is med to high prososity so I believe I need silicones. CGM ain't for everybody. I never stopped washing my hair with real sulfate shampoo bc I have danduff and need to cleanse my hair and scalp. But I did jump on the no silicone bandwagon and I truly believe it ruined me but no more. Back to silicones for me.

Stick to products that you know your hair loves & get a good cut. You have soooo much hair that cutting off a few more inches won’t make your hair short. Protective styling is a good idea. Heyy Nisha 👋🏽
I agree with what you said about waking up and feeling blessed. What's going with your hair gurl? super dry hair, breakage, single strands like you mentioned is the name of the game with kinky hair, we trim out hair on the same schedule. Sticking to what your hair loves is a must like you mentioned. Interesting layers can cause breakage - I never thought about this. You're right when having doubt about trying a product don't use it. Yess the loc or lco method are great. I'm guilty of slacking on those methods as well and like you I was heavy with the oils. Speaking of protective styles I just put mini braids in my hair last night to give my hair a break from wash and go's.
Your hair is so thick and beautiful but even if you decide to cut it I know it will be just as beautiful and it will grow back. Finger detangling and pre pooing is a must for my hair regimen. Full watch like always and very informative!! That's awesome you have a plan of action.

I have been experiencing dryness also since the winter. I figured it's because it's not humid. Even this summer in NYC isn't humid and because I spend more time indoors where the air is dryer, my hair doesn't get hydrated.
After washing my hair, it stays moisturized for 2-3 days and once I remoisturize, it's usually good for the rest of the week.
I stopped using shampoos cause I noticed it's making my hair dryer. I've been using the Aztec to wash my hair weekly and sometime use a cowash. Girl problems are problems. World problems do not negate personal problems. And hair, for women, is never superficial. It’s a key component of US. Im having health problems right now (I have MS and had a relapse), but I broke my nail the other day, and you’d have thought the world had ended. Individual problems don’t lose weight because the world is insane. We have to allow ourselves space to breathe and have concerned that don’t have anything to do with anyone else. If you’ve been following the news a lot, you might be under too much stress, which can cause dryness. I was super stressed and was not even able to eat. I quit watching ALL the news and stayed off of social media. Right now I’m watching UA-cam and visiting specific, non news-related/political/social IG accounts. I think you should be selective about new products you try. You can maybe do fewer product tries per month (I am not sure what your content patterns are like). I tend to avoid products that are from celebrities and focus on stuff that fits my ingredient preferences (and also not super heavy on fragrance). I would focus on trying things when you run low on favorites in a certain category. Or maybe just focus on one category per month so you don't jeopardize your hair needs (like if styler or conditioner is more vital to your hair's health).

My hair has been dry for the last few months so I decided I was using too much protein because at one point it was getting too mushy. I took a look at my products and most had protein. I started using more moisturizing products and more co-washing instead of shampooing and it’s starting to feel better. I really think I was just using too much shampoo. I do shampoo at least once a month. After making many purchases of moisturizing products I now have about the same of both moisture and protein products. I alternate protein and moisture deep conditioners. Again, it’s starting to feel better. One of the main reasons I’ve been purchasing a lot of products is that I was searching for the ultimate wash and go for my hair. I have a few favorites now so after, yeah AFTER I use up the products I’ve purchased I will stick to what I know works. Let me just say people don’t like hair grease but I tried blue magic with a moisturizer and my hair was super moisturized all week. I twisted my hair up and I was so amazed. Actually thinking about doing that this week, tomorrow. It was the ultimate moisturizer. I hope you figure it out and do what is best for you even if it means less products on your channel. I’m sure you will figure it out and I’ll still watch. Sometimes it’s not even about the content you just watch because you like the person on the screen. Big chop, don’t big chop we will be there on the journey with you. Others may have the same issue and need to see what steps are needed to get back on track. There’s a learning experience here. Be encouraged. ❤️ One more thing, I stopped using those duck clips as well because I could feel them pulling out my hair. I use a similar clip though that has a silicone band that protects the hair from the plastic teeth. I purchased them from Amazon and they are hair clips, 12 pack, AIMIKE. They work for me.

NJ Eberhart My hair was mushy from a product I used. I used the Mane Choice’s Cheers shampoo and conditioner for a month, brought it back to life. I continued to use shampoos, not Cheers but others I had around the house. I realized a lot of my products had protein. So just think it was overkill. I was never much of a co-wash person. My hair started to feel dry to the point that it felt rough so I decided to start co-washing so my hair wouldn’t get stripped. I made sure I used all moisturizing products but incorporated protein once a month. My hair feels so much better now. When I deep condition now I can actually feel the moisture afterwards whereas before it still felt dry after deep conditioning. I don’t know nothing about nothing but I pray you make the right choice protein vs. moisture depending on your situation. I’d like to continue to see your beautiful hair flourish.

Maybe you need a professional trim. M.a. d curls slowed down on their reviews but taylor ended up having the same problem come back & she had to big chop. So youtube may not be the sole culprit...Yes the heat can tear your hair up!! It will fry your hair i'm dealing with it now for 2 weeks with this heat wave & humidity. Retrace your steps, think back to when you first had the dryness/breakage issue.. is it once it got hotter? is it once YOU did your own trim in april? Are the products you think work really working? Someone said tailored beauty is drying.. Maybe stop using their stuff for like 4 weeks & see what happens. Just because you are working with a brand mean you're obligated to them
A conditioner with just protein is not enough. Go to target & get botanika Beauty protein it's sooo good!! It's like aphogee but with better ingredients because mielle mint dc is not a full protein treatment.. it's a balanced treatment. Definitely get new shears as well. You can limit reviews to once a month! You don't hav to big chop, you start with like 3 inches then go from there if you need to cut more then gradually cut more.

I really hate that you are struggling with your hair right now. Personally I really look forward to your reviews. I like to watch your channel because you come across as an authentic relatable person (not really a UA-cam personality). You didn’t mention how often you wash/cowash your hair. When I struggled with dryness I increased how much I fully saturated my hair. I don’t go past 3 or 4 days ever before I rewash my hair. Once I used that technique my hair made a significant improvement. Also when I changed my cleansing product my hair saw significant improvement. For me, consistent clay wash’s work for me. My hair doesn’t get as clean with shampoo. Clay wash’s also helped me retain more moisture over time. I really hope you find what works. How about doing a series on getting your hair back to health? That way you can do videos showing us your progress without testing out a lot of new products! I really am wishing you the best🙏🏽

It has been so hot here in Michigan but for a change, no humidity. So my air condish has been running a lot. My hair has been crazy dry, shedding and my ends are puffy. I have some short hairs and breakage in my 4c crown from experimenting with some Mane Choice products. Someone told me that air conditioning will dry out and wreck your hair. Maybe it’s a combo of all the different things you are doing, the products and the air conditioning. Let’s not rule out the stress of the last few months. I wouldn’t big chop. I would just do a lot of hot oil and deep moisturizing and a protein to see if that helps first.

How often do you moisturize during the week? Once is not enough. Also, are you adjusting your products to the weather to help retain moisture?
I know it’s hard when trying to keep up with trends as a creator, but don’t feel like you have to ruin your hair to create content. That’s one thing that’s a dealbreaker for me. There are brands that people know are trash and do nothing for the hair and they still use and promote them (I.e., Cantu to name one) for a video. It’s not worth it because everything your investing in to “help” your hair is leaving you with the hair problem and out of money on those products.

Using my fav products my moisture lasts pretty much the whole week unless I’m doing a wash n go. But I’ll remoisturize and put it in a puff. I only really alter my products for winter. That’s when it hair is normally the driest. I def try our products but I don’t keep using them if they don’t work for me. I think I’ve just keep running into products that aren’t the best (pattern and these last collections from The Mane Choice).

Have you tried not using the extra oil? I’m one of those few people that can’t use extra oil. It causes my hair to feel Oily Crunchy Dry (OCD). No matter what type of oil. My hair was amazing! Moisturised, thick, defined. Just perfect for me. So then I moved to The US. I got like 50 hair product since I arrived here in January this year 2020 because I was watching UA-cam and I wanted to try all the new products you guys have here in America. The result is: My hair was drier than it used to be, less defined and my scalp is always itching. Now I decided to use what I know that works for my hair and stop this craziness about try new products almost every week.
