This piece doesn't mention the first family of the house. My grandfather, Joseph Palma, built the house, and he and his children, including my mother, moved into it in 1930. They sold it to the Nortons in the 1950s. My grandfather was Italian American, and we think of him as the original godfather. He worked for Henry Ford, and her serve three terms as Borough President of Staten Island. I have vivid memories of the house, which he sold when I was a child.
"and we think of him as the original godfather" Eh... for financial purposes, I can see that. But you don't seriously envy that title, do you? If so, you are a fool.
The anchor (Greg Kelly) of course is the son of former NYC Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly. Greg was also a Marine Corps fighter pilot before going into the news business. Yes, his banging was annoying but as long as there is no damage to the films, I say let bygones be bygones, kapisch?
The film planning crew considered my college friend’s family house in Manhasset for the Corleone house. They loved it, but rejected it because the ceilings were too low. His dad was a lawyer for the Genovese family.
I would of said hey fuck head, you tap on those film cases one more time,I will beat the shit out of you in front of all the people watching this across the country and everybody in the studio . Stunod!!
Yes, I agree. What's up with the constant banging of the film cases. What a jerk. Even a child would know better than to do that. I did enjoy watching this video though. Never knew anything about the house except for what I saw in the movie. Thanks for posting this.
He was probably upset because since it was his interview he asked if they could show parts of the film in his interview and he refused so that's why he was banging them like a baby
My grandparents lived DIRECTLY across the street. Not across the street and 'one house over', etc. but DIRECTLY. The mansion was always in straight, head on view through their front windows. Years later, not too many blocks from 110 Longfellow Road, the real Godfather, Paul Castellano, built his 'White House' on Benedict Road. He used to order pizza from Joe & Pat's. I delivered there a few times, but he always had someone else answer the door. Unlike John Gotti, Big Paul practiced keeping a very low profile. Unfortunately, that didn't do him much good when they bugged his house. lol
How delightful to see the "behind the scenes" setting of the location of the filming of my very best favorite movie of all time! After viewing this video, I'm going to have to watch The Godfather again now (for the umpteenth time)! Both the Palmas and the Nortons enjoy(ed) a fabulous home!
there is only one small problem with this film, my wife tells me Ive watched it over 100 times, thats okay we are talking about the God Father, there is no better of a movie then this. This house holds many many stories behind those walls
I grew up playing in Vito genovese home, after he went to prison ,he donated to our church, and they turned it into a thrift shop, wnen I was a kid we used to hide in all his hidden staircases, and in the basement all the local houses were connected with tunnels that were left over from the civil war,if the cops ever raided his home he would be down the street in a matter of minutes.pretty cool !!!
That's funny because my Grandmother (Millie Previtera) Joseph Palma and I even remember buying several Fords from his dealership on Castleton Avenue and Rector St. Also remember him as Boro Pres. and even have an old brochure from the late 40's early 50's about S.I. with a forword by your Grandfather. Bob
People Apparently don’t know anything about television. I guarantee those are not the 8mm tapes. Those are kept in a safety deposit box why would they bring them out to the studio? Those were just tape boxes.
i just came back form that house. i spend all day friday in there. i have to say now im very proud to own a brick from the godfather house. the house is under remodeling. the entrance is gone. cement and rocks are everywhere. i took a lot of pictures. i have bag full of dirt from the house, leaves, etc............what a day. my life is complete. thanks.
wow THAT is frking amazing that Coppola or producers allowed his mom to film on 8 mm while the actual Godfather scenes were being filmed in and around that S Island home. Now I gotta find out if her son did ever try and sell those cannisters!
The things you never know or think about. It’s still a beautiful home that has “stayed in the family”. Wish this guy would stop banging these priceless film containers around.
I can imagine it might get a-bit annoying sometimes having such an iconic house, well if it’s anything like the home alone house, they probably get people who take pictures all the time.
What was with the news anchor banging the film reels? Was he pissed at the guy or something? I can understand accidentally banging them once but multiple times looks intentional. I would’ve asked that pos to stop that!

Have you read "The Sicilian" by Mario puzo ?
Wow
"and we think of him as the original godfather"
Eh... for financial purposes, I can see that. But you don't seriously envy that title, do you? If so, you are a fool.
@@Rutherford_Inchworm_III 😂
Nice thing but do you have any proof of this
Excuse me while I slam your priceless movies around on the table.

Never underestimate the power and impact of the American filmmaker. A lovely story.
I want those films so badly. I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse!
aw ma aw man
Love it. Good one :)
He already sold it to me. I can't tell u how much money was involved.
Everytime the anchor bangs around those 8mm film cans, I wanna reach through the monitor and throttle his neck. Those are historic artifacts, dammit!
The films might not even be in the canisters, Sonny!!
I found that to be disrespectful myself... But it's nothing personal it's just business
Fuuggett about it
I was thinking the same thing. Although I liked his news piece, I lost all respect when he tapped on the canister the last time.
Why doesn't the anchor man just go get his shine box and bang on that?
Hope those home movies were transferred to digital.
Videos like this are why I love UA-cam.
I love how they honor the novel and it wasn't a "big mansion" it was actually several houses.
Not lying being 100% honest that my aunt lives across the street from this house. It's a beautiful neighborhood. I love being there.
Is your aunt single?
@@junkiejackflash Ha! No, I'm afraid not She has been married for about half a century. (She is 80 years old) ^-^
@@LaurenThompsonIsMyRealName does she have grand daughter
@@emreyigit4103 lol nope. She has two grand sons.
@@LaurenThompsonIsMyRealName hmm. Let me think about it.
WOW that's AWESOME she filmed behind the scenes I'd love to see the film of that also
PLEASE release those home movies so we all can see them. This would be such a contribution to cinema history. Please, please.
The film planning crew considered my college friend’s family house in Manhasset for the Corleone house. They loved it, but rejected it because the ceilings were too low. His dad was a lawyer for the Genovese family.
banging on those reels, he obviously never had the makings of a varsity athlete
LOL. I see what you did there. LOL

Why was the anchor for jolting the film reels like they weren't fragile?
because hes a douche bag
I know Ed Norton , he really is a great person . The Godfather is my #1 movie of all time .
Please have some contract negotiations agreed to so that we can witness some of the most historical home movie footage ever taken!
That house should be a museum...
Great piece. That dude has a fortune in memorabilia
The Nortons are sitting on a fortune. A chunk of the compound wall? Seriously?!

I'm shocked Ed Norton never mentioned his old pal Ralph Kramden.
Didn't Ed Norton play in Primal Fear and American History X?
I remember walking around this house in 1993 when i was like 12 years old and my father told me that they have making a great movie with this house.
Wow❤️
WOW!
I’m sure this question was already asked, but did the Norton Family ever make those home movies public? I think it would be so very fun!

What’s up with the guy with these tapes? Not to mention that tie?!?!
I used to live on Longfellow Road -_-
Somebody needed to reason with the anchor.
Any update on when and for how much it was sold?
Tony63909 $2.8M
Im gonna have to buy my house back
Those were an empty 8mm cans actually. He banged them just to hit the first auction prise. It was intentionally.

Did he end up releasing the behind the scenes footage his mother filmed? If so can you guys send me the link in your reply to this comment please..
I want to take some pictures that, in front of the house, is that legal?
Those film cans were empty. Forgetabottit..
paul castellano lived down the block in real life. todt hill staten island
Castellano lived on Toad Hill, this was shot on Emerson hill
Anthony Gronock tommy balatti was his driver the night he got whacked...
The nephew of gambino family boss Paul Castellano was Richard Castellano. He was the actor that portrayed Peter Clemenza.
What they did was that they just took over a neighborhood and made it into a "compound."
They made them an offer they couldn’t refused.
