- Lightning-fast antigrav racer Aero GPX absolutely nails the feel of playing Nintendo's all-but-abandoned racing series. There's a new demo on Steam so Luke gives it a spin.

Myrone on ig: myroneofficial
Hey Luke! Thanks for playing and sharing about my game, I really appreciate it. I'm glad that you're enjoying it, as well! :D
Edit: Also, what you said about Myrone's ability to play guitar being of the level that it both amazes and de-motivates you if you play yourself; you're absolutely correct. Myrone is unbelievable.
Great job! I haven't tried it yet, I installed the demo over lunch break earlier today, I'll give it a go after I've had something to eat
it looks amazing so far, you did great :)
Dude, great job on the game! Will there be a switch port eventually?
@@Pygmyer Nothing in motion on that front yet; I recognize that it needs to happen though!
@@Aaronmac404 I'll stay content and excited then, playing the game on steam until further notice. F-Zero is my childhood, and I hope that you know that I and thousands of other devoted fans are infinitely grateful for all the hard work and live you've put into this incredible project.
"Don't need health!" he cries, as he careens at half health into the same stretch where's he's died twice in a row.
Ejjeeke
"Don't need health!"
*crashes*
"Maybe I should've picked up some health back there."
"Selects expert difficulty" well, i see i see Lukes alt personality Hugh Briss from Dark Souls is playing!
Final track turns out to be a 1v1 vs Seethe the Scaleless, and if he loses, his car has half health for all future races until he wins a rematch. 🤣
I love that "Lap 2, keep going!", like someone's going to do 1 lap and say "Sorry, this really isn't for me, I'm bowing out now."
doesn't that happen in F1? last lap and guy on the radio goes "keep pushing"
If I knew more about F1, I bet I could write a devastating burn about one of the current drivers. Alas....
Don't tell me what to do! *Ends game*
@@khamjaninja. Well, from what I've been hearing, there aren't any other drivers anymore besides Verstappen. It's basically him playing time trial season after season
Probably better than "Lap 2, I wouldn't bother if I were you. Might as well go home. If you leave now you can get an off-peak ticket."
It's always cool to see fan projects essentially revive franchises like this
Ok, now this game with Takumi's '86, rocks falling from the sky, and random bosses from all the soulsbourne games.
This is clearly a reasonable request.
Random bosses with Luke penning theme music for each of them.
Luke hitting all the walls and other cars at once: “why am I dead tho?”
The Nineties called. Just to remind you that they were sick as all hell and everything has been downhill since then.
Never before have I been more offended by something I 100% agree with.
It's like the game heard Luke's risk/reward comment and decided to just throw a NIGHTMARE track at him
(Sees title)
Me who has never played F-Zero: Whelp, if Luke is into it....
If this looked fun to you, F-zero X for n64 and GX for gamecube are basically this. GX has a story/arcade mode where they reveal F-Zero racing is like what pro wrestling pretends to be. Both are pretty spendy secondhand, but X got added to the NSO 64 catalogue. Needless to say, I recommend both games.
You won't regret it. F-Zero X best played with original controller or the sensitivity is off and it won't feel right.
That table top game you made was awesome
I would love to see another game of Gravity RIP!
Absolutely. I play it a few times a year with friends when we need a one-shot 👏
@@gothmissstress I attached the racing side to a Fallout 2d20 game I started a couple years ago.
Now *this* is Pod Racing!
Gotta love the Ivory Mako, in a world of cool future vehicles, a normal car really stands out
Yeah. It has got to be one hell of a huge car though when comparing it to the other vehicles, especially the pilot cockpits on the others. Like that thing has got to be at least 4 meters wide, hummer width.
"Time to use that 3d steering"
*immediately runs car into the wall*
Downloaded the demo and it scratches an itch I didn't even know I had. Definitely going to buy the full version when it's released.
Something that probably seems quite minor to many people is that the accessibility options are also excellent. Just from watching this video, I didn't know how Luke could tell which recharge areas were for health and which were for speed boosts. Then I checked the accessibility options and discovered that they're colour-coded, and you can pick the colour and (most importantly for me) the *brightness* to use for each one. So now I can aim for dark muddy-brown for health, and light muddy-brown for speed!
BTW. 11:21 I can confirm that this game does indeed have the "yeet yourself into the ocean" mechanic from F-Zero X
I had the same thought about the split energy resources.
I think the difference it makes is mostly in the reloading strips, because you have to choose which to take to reload either health or boost.
So i guess it takes away the risk/reward from F-Zero boosting, but puts another mechanic onto the tracks which enables more styles and unique features for them.
I think there ought to be a way to do something like hold boost once after you run out of boost to start tapping health for boost.
Also something that F-Zero GX did that I'm not sure if the earlier games did was give you energy for successful attacks. Not sure if this is doing that.
The music is so good, I like how it feels like a mixture of soaring guitars and heavy, crunchy riffs
god the soundtrack is SO GOOD
Agreed. Gives me early Joe Satriani vibes (which is high praise in my books).
Myrone is definitely worth checking out. I first heard of him of an old kickstarter game called Drift Stage, that soundtrack is fire as well (sadly the game never came to be)
F-Zero will always hold a special place for me. Back when we got the SNES, for the longest time, the only non-Mario games we had were it and ActRaiser. I did love my Golden Fox, even if I didn't win often.
This does look awesome. Really seems to capture the F-Zero feel. I remember the stream you did playing a bunch of different games, trying to find something similar to F-Zero, and the one thing all of them lacked to me, that I feel just adds so much to the personality of F-Zero, is quirky characters. So it is nice to finally see a game not just capture the right gameplay, but to also get the characters and vehicles right as well. Will absolutely be keeping an eye on this one.
Couldn’t agree more. In a very early internet age (N64 era for me) it was great finding out about the bizarre back stories of all the characters. I was always Black Bull/Black Shadow.
The real question: is luke gonna play bloodbor-er i mean “nightmare” kart?
I hope so. It'd be a dream come true.
I love any project that revives an abandoned bit of media but this has to be up there as one of the best bits of fan work. it's such a good mix of obviously being an homage to and drawing on the originals while also taking space to be it's own thing
11:20 Update: You *can* yeet yourself into the ocean. Don't ask how I found out
I watched Luke finish one lap before I started downloading the demo. So much fun.
This makes me want to play Gravity Rip now!
Definitely recommend. It's very fun 🫀👏
@@gothmissstress oh I know! I have it already
A+ guitar, what a soundtrack!
I have to assume that Pilot 2112's name is a Rush reference, which means I HAVE to play this
It is :)
@@Aaronmac404 I knew it! That is so cool, I'm so excited for your game!
The genuine joy and entertainment you have with this game is pure joy and entertainment to watch as well, and the soundtrack is absolute fire
Having now played 10 minutes of practice mode of Aero GPX … I doff my hat to you dude.
This was really mesmerizing to watch. PLEASE stream again!!
I could watch you play this for hours
F-Zero X was my favorite racing game on the N64 though I was terrible at it. I remember seeing this game on twitter a few times as an artist I follow follows them and occasionally will retweet their work.
Not gonna lie, for me F Zero was always a distant second to Wipeout when it came to futuristic racers. That said, I did like F Zero too, particularly the Gamecube version, so I'm definitely interested in this.
I have to see if my brother's seen this, he absolutely loves F-Zero. This looks really cool and the music is awesome! I was never good at F-Zero myself but it was fun to play with my brother back in the day.
That took me an embarrassing long time to realise it was Luke. To distracted by the breakneck pace and guitar. Wow. Reminds me Redout, which I sadly suck at
Love the music on that last race. Reminds me of a song by my favorite band. Definitely gonna check this out now.
Juat watching you play this made me feel like I was playing F-Zero X. The controls look so tight! I'm definitely getting this!
This looks awesome! Many happy memories of F-Zero games in college with friends!
The music in this ROCKS! Literally!
I can't play these games to save my life, but watching this is a BLAST.
So hype for this game. Haven't been able to truly scratch the F Zero itch since GX.
Will check this out - regarding F Zero though, F Zero 99 is alive & well with a good community & new content added since launch.
Never played the F-Zero series, but I love the music in this game.
YEAH! YOU GOT BOOST POWER!
You did quite well at narrating and driving at 1500 km/h at the same time. Kudos! Love the content.
I'll have to keep an eye on this one - Looks like an absolute blast, if only for that soundtrack. Ear candy for the gods!
Luke, you did fine to reach the top ten in the standings for the the five races. Be warned that there is a you tuber out there that likes this a lot, too. (Ryukahr)
Really get that feel of visiting your cousin when you're both kids and they got this amazing game and they just want to show it off. It would be annoying, except it's so much fun just watching, you don't really mind, in fact, that's kinda why you visit. Guess I'm kinda describing letsplays in general, but it feels even closer here.
I've never been very good at F-Zero (or any racing game more technical than Mario Kart tbh) but I am immediately in love with Andra Thane and Cassi T'Zora so I may need to play this
Love the look of this and will be keen to try myself, but most of this video was occupied by my brain looking at the green and pink strips thinking 'Cosmo & Wanda think they slick' XD
We've played a lot of Gravity RIP and definitely enjoyed it! We played it in the same way Oxventure did Blades, with a larger team, but we'd race with just 2 people. Much easier to manage finding a time that suits 3 people than 6.
Never played any F0 videogames though, but I will!
Oh man, this reminded me of the ps2 Speed Racer game I used to play. Good times... Also, I needed this game yesteryear- Thank you Luke!
If I'm right Luke has more listens to the YellowLine soundtrack than I do, lol. Never got the chance to play games like F-Zero before, I'm gonna get this one once it comes out for sure.
My god, this game looks gorgeous
Wipeout is my F-Zero.
And it's weird because I've never really been into any kind of racing thing. I don't really care for cars or other go-fast mobiles, fictional or otherwise.
But for some reason... Wipeout! Heck, I still periodically download Wipeout HD Fury from the PlayStation store and just enjoy going very fast while "Le Night Dominator" by The Touch plays in the background.
Luke, I'd love to see you play Proun. It's not new or anything but such a cool, minimalist racing game with a cracking soundtrack
I can't say that I'm a huge F-Zero fan, but I'm largely on board with it's weird and intense vibes and this certainly seems to capture those. Never give up hope tho, Luke. SURELY Nintendo won't leave that IP gold just laying on the floor forever. We have to believe.
Great to see games like F-Zero still have a platform. Great racing as well!
Have you heard of Radical Red by the way Luke? I loved Pokemon games like you but sadly most recent ones lack any challenges or innovations. This Romhack is very popular, introduces a lot of QoL features, brings a real challenge which seems to fit your new channel and has a ton of content and art additions.
Regardless, good luck on your revived channel!
Ok, I had never heard of this game, and before the video was over I'd downloaded the demo, paused the video to play it, and am now hooked. If you're not getting some kind of kickback from the studio for this, you should be.
Whelp, that's a game I've added to my wishlist
this game looks like a lot of fun and i'm not that big into racing games, also the music is so awesome
Don't need health. No time for health. Need boost, not health. *Blows up* Maybe I should've gotten some health.
The visuals of the game are amazing, it really looks like F-Zero, if you showed this to me without telling me i'd definitely think it was
And yeah... the camera not spinning in first person was a great design choice, imagine the nausea you'd feel each time otherwise haha
there was also some demo from developer of spark the electric jester
Wow, that is one nice soundtrack!
Soundtrack is amazing.
As someone who has not played many racing games (Sonic Riders is basically all that comes to mind), I'm actually really interested in this now. It's got tons of personality and looks really fun!
Glad you mentioned Gravity RIP! That was the first thing that popped into my head!!
Going to give this a go! If people are after a Pod Racer/Wipeout style game, check out Deathgrip's demo.
I'm definitely checking out the demo when I get home. Thanks for shining some light on this game!
Nice gameplay Luke. And I hate to say it but, YOU LOST DIGNITY 😂. LOL, this game is really a nice F-Zero tribute
Love seeing luke fangirling so hard. It's so great. And by the way, Gravity Rip is absolutely amazing
Luke, have you played Fast RMX? That's another "definitely catches the vibe of F-Zero" game. That ones on switch and steam I think.
Okay, I have seen Luke play plenty of F-Zero alikes, but I really think this might genuinely be the one this time! (That and Luke's tabletop RPG of course >.>)
One of the old emulators on the Switch has an F-Zero game and it kicked my ass. I'd be interested in hearing your take on it to see if it holds up in the eyes of someone who actually played it back in the day.
That soundtrack rules
Looks pretty cool, and sounds even better:) Thanks for both recommendations!
It's beautiful to see F zero 😍😍😍😍
This looks brilliant
Aah I just played this demo before seeing this, it’s so good!
The art for this game is awesome!
This game looks great!
I'm still waiting for a new F-Zero... Not losing hope. I mean, come on, we got F-Zero 99. Don't tell me Nintendo didn't know what it was doing when they leaked incomplete info prior to that Direct...
Maybe for the Switch 2, as a launch title? That's got to be it. They're cooking such a revolutionary F-Zero, only the Switch 2 would do it justice. Of course, that's got to be it :D
Please do something with Gravity RIP, I absolutely love the game and even put out some fan material and edited other great homebrews.
It's the first table top to make me out on the DM hat and open a world of tabletop roleplaying games that is not just D&D.. would love to see another video on it
I like how Retried and Retired are anagrams.
I've got the urge to go and play f-zero x and unirally now
This is just the coolest
I need to play this
Man this is rad
I was just attacked in this game that has attacking! 😂
Racing go speed
Now this is pod racing!
I tried to make a comment about Luke not mentioning his Patreon and UA-cam removed it for trying to tell people that other websites exist, which also took out my comment about running Gravity RIP and the wonderful events therein. UA-cam is kind of bad, but Luke is good, so hey, Luke has a Patreon, I can't tell you where but it's probably easy enough to find.
Not gonna lie, the first time I saw this game I thought someone made the ttrpg that Luke made into a game
Would love this on console
It's more Wipeout than F-Zero (not that I really know the difference), but Luke should definitely check out BallisticNG if he hasn't already. It's my favorite racing game for sure (again, not saying much since I barely play racing games lol, but still).
looks like a great little game
This looks great!
Luke, this game looks rad. I would like to see you play the binding of isaac at some point in time
lol I was thinking if I should tell you about this, looks like you're one step ahead of me..
