i thought the caraval series was middle of the road, but loved once upon a broken heart. i think reading the caraval trilogy before hand is really the way to go. there's a lot of aspects of ouabh that i'm not sure were fully explained for new readers.
i loved Caraval series when i was a new reader. like, I LOVED that series. i had dreams about it but ig as you mature as a reader you realise not every book is as good as you thought it was. now stephanie garbers writing makes me cringe and i can’t finish a book by her anymore. i’m not sad but i’ve just become a better reader
See this is why I trust your opinions. You are actually honest and the things you mention I know I wouldn’t like the book because of it. No where on booktok is honest about this series. I got lied to about caraval and a dance of thieves. Just jaded at this point 😭
"OMG, you finally reviewed it! I was the one who commented on your video, asking you to review this series. I loved Caraval, and then I saw the hype around the Once Upon a Broken Heart series, so I immediately ordered it. However, I was skeptical and hesitant to start reading it. I eventually began the first book but ended up DNF'ing it halfway through because my high expectations weren't met, just like you mentioned in your review. I really wanted to love Jacks as much as everyone else does!"
Same. I just don't understand Garber's writing. I tried the first books of both Caraval then then OUABH and they're... baffling. I was so confused and the series isn't very satisfactory. Stuff happen at random, so much happens but nothing really makes sense, and I did not see the chemistry in any of the relationships but especially Jacks and Evangeline. And Caraval is the same. They're books you finish reading and go, huh, what was that book even trying to do??? Why does it exist? I just don't get this obsession with Garber books.
i read the 1st book and felt similar feelings like you and never really picked up the series ever again. I recently read lovely war by julie berry..it's like ww historical ya fiction..with 2 romance plot lines..it was pretty good. it's so rare to find good ya books. anyways it's pretty insta love but i don't mind that because love is pretty instant when you are a teen. you can it to your tbr if you'd like
i read Once Upon a Broken Heart sometime early this year/late last year immediately after reading the Caraval series cuz its bren on my reading list for literal YEARS... and it definitely wasnt what i was expecting, and it didn't live up to my expectations... i didn't really care for Jacks honestly 😭😭😭 i really loved Apollo, though (until the 3rd book :/). i personally qould rate the whole series a 3.2-3.5/5 stars. 🤷🏾♀️
I loved the first one until towards the end cuz wtf 😂 but I might hate read the other two because I love the concept I just feel like they dropped the ball sadly 😢
@@DiemmiReads thank you so much🫶🏻🤌🏻✨ but girl I am sure I am becoming your biggest fan don't forget me girl 😂😂 and seriously i ordered every book I saw here i actually wanted their reviews so 😳😳🥹❤️tysmmm
