Thank you Mike :). Je regarde sur la carte où se situe la Pennsylvanie, j'apprends votre géographie et j'aime ça ! Happy New Year 2024 Mike and all the followers :): Joie, santé....Voyages :)
Spent the July 4th long weekend in Erie Pa and Loved it! You have to appreciate lake life or this isn't the town for you. Whole different place in the summer time🚤🩴🛥️⛵
Erie is becoming an important center for education in the US. PSU Behrend, Gannon and Mercyhurst have long histories in Erie. The Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) is the nation's largest medical college and is the only Academic Health Center in the osteopathic profession. UPMC's Magee-Womens Research Institute and Foundation is the largest research institute in the U.S. dedicated to women's health and reproductive biology. Plus, all these schools interoperate to various degrees within most fields. Every institution here has an entrepreneur program with direct connection to national venture capitalists. Our county library will soon house an operating lake water research laboratory that will be open to the public during library hours with programs available for all ages at all times. Erie has many opportunities for those willing to progress far beyond a high school diploma. (:
You probably had unusually good weather for the time of year you were there. I worked with someone that moved up there (from Pittsburgh) and on his first Christmas they had a couple of feet of snow.
Not a bad downtown; looks like quite a bit of the warehouse and shanty district was removed, and others repurposed. And nice to see a Warners Theatre, preserved much as it would have looked when built in the 1920's. That last turn is where US 19 begins at US 20. 19 will take you down to Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL.
Cities in that area (rust belt) are old and every census have negative population growth. I drove through there a few years ago and it’s easy to tell the good years are long over.
Great tour. It really is kind of impressive in its own way. The classic old buildings amongst the modern infrastructure seems to work. The east side is largely overlooked though.
It looks the same as it did 40 years ago when I lived there. Completely depressing shit-hole with 1960s looking buildings & infrastructure. And zombies just mindlessy roaming the desolate streets.....😒
Not when I lived there in the 70s. Amazing place to grow up. Family, winter fun, exceptional schools that propelled me to scholarships and awards in college. Erie is still with me! I'm sorry your experience was so different.
Amazing ??? Erie is far from amazing. I went to Academy high school and Tech hs and they BOTH were complete dumps. Winters are cold and miserable. The economy is lousy, jobs are few and far between unless you want to work at McDonald's, and the infrastructure is old and crumbling !! even if you want to go to the peninsula the lake waters ice cold, polluted and brown. Erie is FAR from amazing....
Thank You Mike for posting. I am sitting in Baghdad, and I was hoping to see someone posting a drive around Erie for 2024.

You just happened to go by where I came into this world, UPMC Hamot.

Dreary Erie. Where the Sun don’t shine.

Thank you for passing through.😀

Then across the Sunshine Skyway and ending near Palmetto Florida.
Palm Beach here. Grew up in Erie. Amazing place back then. Amazing. 1970s. Great life. God bless you.
Yup. 26th and Peach is where US 19 begins its southward journey.
Dead and depressing. My hometown. Left 50 years ago. Always miss the lake. Never miss the grey and long cold winters !
When was the last time you were in Erie?

The air in Erie was polluted long before Mileage Mike ever set foot (or in this case, tires) here.
