I love the interview with Alan, it's like we are all asking him to punt off his money and he's doing it for us. I don't really care for wild action in live streams, I don't watch them live only highlights. But I have so much appreciation for him throwing away money for entertainment, he's like a martyr. He's punted 2.5 million, martyr isn't too strong of a word. I would encourage him not to do it, but holy sh*t give this man whatever he wants
@@stevechauser6697 I can only assume that JRB put Rob on 99, TT or QQ. And tried to bluff when the ace came. But Rob checked behind twice, and there are a lot more combos of AQ and AK so JRB made a bad play.
I just looked over at the hand again in detail from 2:25:32 When Rob 4-bets he's clearly indicating strength. When JRB 5-bets he's turned his hand into semi-bluff imo. When Rob calls this 5-bet, this does not eliminate the strongest hands like KK or AA from his range. Everyone at the table is playing cautiously. Even if Rob had AA, there wouldn't be much benefit to going all-in in that spot because your opponent will probably fold. And if he had KK, he doesn't want to get coolered by AA. And we can assume JJ or QQ would flat and hope to dodge an A or K. On the other hand, there are a lot of less strong hands rob can call that 5-bet with. He's somewhat priced in. There's 296k in the pot, and 130 more to call, giving him 31% pot odds. If Rob had AJ, he'd still have that much equity against QQ. That said though, I think AJ would be a very bad or awkward call. AQ can call though since you have two live cards against JJ. That said, I think we should eliminate, AJ from robs range for simplicity. If you're in JRB's shoes, in theory you can put AQ in Robs range. However, AQ is more likely the bottom of his range and Rob isn't very likely to 4-bet AQ because overplaying AQ is a classic way of losing money. Nonetheless, AQ is in his range. After the flop, turn and river, the board is J988A. Look at it from JRB shoes. All the pocket pairs from TT's onwards are in Rob's range. That is 24 pocket pairs, 6 of which are boats. 18 normal pocket pairs. There are 12 combos of AK remaining. If we assume AQ is only getting here when suited, that leaves 3 combos, but if all the AQ get here we have 12 combos. No matter what Rob has, JRB can be sure he'll lose the hand at showdown. Depending on how many AQ we put in Rob's range, two scenarios for JRB 1) 46% of Robs hands are weaker than a paired ace 2) 37.5% of robs hands are weaker than a paired ace JRB is betting 200 into 426. JRB is risking 200 to win 426. If this bluff works more than 32% of the time, it's profitable. If Rob has QQ or KK, he's certainly in a tough position; what does he beat? TT? QQ should fold. KK might call occasionally but that's on the borderline. Going through the math, KK loses to most things, but I don't think the exact math matters too much. Kk might call The bluff is ok in my opinion. Sometimes small bets (like what JRB did) are more believable as bluffs than big bets, I don't know, depends on the person. If he bet more money the bluff would perhaps have been more believable, but it would make the bluff -EV on paper because of the % percent of combos Rob would fold. Something which is obvious but I didn't realise till now, the bluff is made bad by the fact that Rob checking twice in a row before the river indicates Rob's more likely to have AK or AQ, than an overpair like KK or QQ which would have bet the flop. Robs line weighs him towards AK more than before
