Unfortunately, this is what happens when you take media from a niche genre and make it more accessible to a large and profitable but also loud and sensitive audience, and why gatekeeping is a thing... An IP with darker elements going mainstream typically means it has to lose its originality and spark in some way and adjust to appeal to those who probably wouldn't have enjoyed it in its natural state in the first place, and those of us who could consume the source material _and_ find enjoyment in it must suffer the consequences...

A message for Eric Kripke. You may not know this, but people who root for Homelander know one thing you seemingly don’t. The Boys is a TV show, a fantasy designed for entertainment. Antony Starr is a great actor and brings entertainment to the show. That’s it. People who want to see him win likely just want to see what that could mean for the show purely from an entertainment perspective. Stop trying to project that’s it’s likely anything more than that. Coming from a guy that uses extreme violence for entertainment, you really do need to grow up.
I still felt like everything happened abruptly. Similar to what would happen in a soap opera. Whereas Breaking Bad sprinkles hints throughout the seasons. Building a story as a whole. There was way too many things that happened in the 4th season that I feel would make more sense if there were hints throughout all the seasons for such dramatic scenerios to happen in the 4th season. It just felt rushed -- slapped on. As if they ran out of ideas after the third season. Especially the first episode of season 4. Compare it to invincibles. They did a much better story telling job.

"He's giving very George Bush speeches" The comics is written interely during the Bush administration and everything surrounding it. I think the show, has much they have been loving puking fun at current American politics, they should focus more on having variety in its satire by mock other stuff. Yes, the world is acclaimed to be political but it doesnt have to inherently focus on Trumpism, alt-right stuff and put the superhero/celeb agenda has a back burner. I thnk that's why this season people are being exhausted about it because its more of the same and the same arcs. He compares South Park with The Boys but from what i can recall through the years of South Park, they have tackled other issues than political stuff and how that they has made become more consitent through the years. They dont just stick with one sub-theme and try to desconstruct it but do more than that. Its not really a valid argument when we know S1 of The Boys wasn't just trying to be politcal.
@@CharismaSpencerFor someone who's not an American, seeing the progressive people focus on Trumpism all the time is not fun because satire is a endless field and American politics isn't just the one theme to focus.i have not seen them tackle AI stuff yet and its been something on the rise everywhere in the world.

Just take into consideration that the rest of the planet doesn't care about the 2-party joke you call a democracy, we're just so fucking tired from CONSTANTLY making every show and movie about Trump and Biden.
my read anyway. honestly it's nearing whatever they're going to do to match Frenchie and Kimiko breaking off to try not doing anything but living life part of the arc of the comics before the series ended the way it did.
He’s not wrong about being worried about sticking the landing and turning into the thing that they’re parodying. I remember all the discussions about this after Game of Thrones ended, where the question is how do you give people what they want but not what they expect. The Boys needs to deliver a narrative where the good guys triumph but somehow not turn into a traditional super hero story. It’s a hell of a needle to thread.
I highly suggest reading his latest interview and what he said about the dark and troubling events of S4 E6 before giving him such high praise. I find it highly inappropriate of him - someone who has such a successful career in show running and writing - to find such dark themes to be "hilarious".

Im tired of this dialog that edgy is incel. The super heroes are celebrity analogs. Celebs lie, cheat, sa, pedos, fraud, politics corrupting, etc this all happens daily in real life why would showing what literal gods in that same position doing the same to an extreme be edgy. Its wierd that the show is so tame. Heck people should really read the books without the sticks up you know where to see it wasnt that edgy.
Its an overused word and misused constantly.
I'm calling it, hughie kills the deep
Why does this dude seem to think 99% of americans think homelander is a genuinely good person ? Literally every single sane person on earth can instantly realize homelander is a monster
Unfortunately they think he is doing the wrong thing for the right reasons
It’s a BS statement. I haven’t seen anyone in my life or on social media ever seriously say Homelander is a hero. It’s just him trying to validate politicizing the show. Just listening to him in this interview, he makes it very clear that politics has been injected in to the show.
@@Roach22 He says with words out of his mouth that the comic itself is highly political in itself, just from a different era. And the show makes fun of both ends of the American political spectrum
@Roach22 I've definitely come across some people who definitely like homelander a bit too much to put it lightly. And someone who is basically homelander without the powers, truly despicable person, however it definitely is a vocal minority more than anything
@@brade7022 With over 8 billion people in the world, there has to be at least a few psychos. I guess it comes down to whether people like the person you know is the exception or the rule. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if a significant majority of those “Homelander is a hero” fans are just seeking attention.
Idgaf about american politics, im not from america, so my hope is, you just write a good show with interesting characters and stories.
It’s an American show made for an American audience.
@@jazzingirl *made for a global audience... Steady on there Homelander

RIP CHANCE
A message for Eric Kripke. You may not know this, but people who root for Homelander know one thing you seemingly don’t. The Boys is a TV show, a fantasy designed for entertainment. Antony Starr is a great actor and brings entertainment to the show. That’s it. People who want to see him win likely just want to see what that could mean for the show purely from an entertainment perspective. Stop trying to project that’s it’s likely anything more than that. Coming from a guy that uses extreme violence for entertainment, you really do need to grow up.
Which is exactly wgat the og comic is in hindsight
He went from a great writer from season 1 to a idiot in season 4
it set up to develop and climax in later Episodes so a little slow n confusing at first.
Coming from an interviewer and interviewee looking like the incels themselves beautiful video
Actually Homelander was behind the scene waiting to laser Eric if he said something he didn't like...its true ask Ashley
0:09 can't wait to say this to my buds 😂
FIRE🖤
Props to Kripke for being a real one the guy genuinely says what he wants and doesn't give a fuck about who it offends.
Speaking what "everyone" feels isn't exactly as edgy as you think it is
Meanwhile Kripke gets offended when people call his show utter garbage. Double standard much?
He holds the same position as every corporation on the planet, very edgy
He's really going out on a limb saying what 95% of what every corporation and media group says. Wow. How brave.
@@WillJ3ll0 lol exactly
you can tell he tries very hard not to include things in his show that will offend certain people
hes just another guy for the corporations
added a b1ack woman as a social commentary because b1ack women are invisible? lol
more like the average man is invisible but that would go against their agenda
Season 1 was the only good one, the comic is better, politics ruin the show not because they're left leaning but because they're poorly implemented.
wait Butcher is supposed to be British? I was 100% certain he was supposed to be Australian.
Dude knows how to write a character to the ground, Frenchies Story hasn’t evolved and has gotten worse
"He's giving very George Bush speeches"
The comics is written interely during the Bush administration and everything surrounding it.
Well apples and oranges mofo
What show have you been watching? It makes fun of every side.
@@CharismaSpencer LOL no
From day one the superhero angle has been a criticism of capitalism, which is definitely a political position….
@@CharismaSpencerFor someone who's not an American, seeing the progressive people focus on Trumpism all the time is not fun because satire is a endless field and American politics isn't just the one theme to focus.i have not seen them tackle AI stuff yet and its been something on the rise everywhere in the world.
The title is completely valid. Theres always a risk of bevoming edgy for no reason
The guy has such a negative opinion of people on the right
As he should. They’re awful and gaslighters
@@redcomet0079lmfaooo as if the left doesn’t do the same.
@@skyofthelivingdead I’m sorry genius, remind me again, who was found guilty of 34 counts? Because it wasn’t a democrat. 🥱
@@skyofthelivingdead *no response & crickets* 🤐🦗 typical Trumplican trolling 101
@@redcomet0079I mean, both left and right leaning figures have gone to jail or have been investigated by authorities in the past and present. And there's people on both sides who complain about corruption in court(and judges) all the time. I get what your saying but still.
Great interview, by someone whose name is a mix of auteur and author
Love his fear of how one story depends on the other n not giving his audience homework but as someone that watches all 3 of the shows it makes so many moments(big or small) more interesting or adds replay value
I consider homelander as my idol
Plus he can literally overcome nukes so i dont know how hes weakest character
physically he is the strongest character but mentally he is rather weak considering his severe insecurity to be loved and revered as well as his deteriorating mental wellbeing leading him to become more unstable and unhinged.
Can't wait for the fucking elections to be over so we can have normal shows again. Today I jokingly said that Trump on V will fight Abortionman and guess what? the episode's major plot twist was actually about abortions.
Just take into consideration that the rest of the planet doesn't care about the 2-party joke you call a democracy, we're just so fucking tired from CONSTANTLY making every show and movie about Trump and Biden.
Homelander is a fun villain, let people enjoy him without being shamed for it. 💪
This season is peak except Frenchie and Kimiko thing, he ruined their arc fr.
my read anyway. honestly it's nearing whatever they're going to do to match Frenchie and Kimiko breaking off to try not doing anything but living life part of the arc of the comics before the series ended the way it did.
If the goal was to not make homelander a relatable character the failed miserably
Homelander is a murdering psychopath but if you find that relatable that says a lot about you 😬
@@sydwhatley your surface level character analysis is impressive
I think that's just a you problem
@@JRDBrennan the ability to empathize with him is fair, relating is a step too close to the edge though.
Good to hear that show won't follow comic's ending
I think the biggest issue is this season went from what was well done parody to over the top mimicry.
Wait what is The Boys Mexico
