I’m glad Starr is getting the love he is but people need to but some more respect on Karl Urban’s name. He doesn’t always have the same huge set pieces as Homelander but he steals every scene he’s in and plays such a devastating complicated character with ease. Such a brilliant nuanced performance.
karl urban is amazing!!!
Yes! So true. Love Karl
It’s refreshing to hear Eric say that you don’t have to watch Gen V or The Boys to know absolutely everything, both are great shows on their own and it’s nice catching the small detail about Godolkin here and there
Fr
And judging by the trailer we‘ll see Cate and Sam this season as well. It’s probably going to be a little confusing if you don’t have any context from Gen V
@@illogical001 fr. in the end of the day, watching GEN V felt more complete to THE BOYS universe. It's like watching BETTER CALL SAUL after BREAKING BAD.

Confused as to who interpreted the narrative as right wing.
ikr? even in season 1 they made fun of Christian rallies and them saying being gay is a sin
those who lack media literacy and thinks the show is laughing with them, not at them.
I dont think a single person believed it was a right wing show, alot of people just believed it was more profound than liberal talking points. The right wing jokes and dissection of the flaws in right wing views were great but it never felt forced and were kept very lighthearted and actually funny. Not to mention it never took the place of the actual plot of the show, being sure not to overshadow the character's motives and conflicts along with the actual corruption of these celebrity type superheroes. Season 4 threw that out the window with sterotypical insults about the right's views, never once acknowledging any of the countless problems the left also has while actively taking up screentime for a near neverending joke about republician media. Meanwhile liberals are the attacked and are righteous protestors and activist. A better writer and a generally more intelligent person would have just taken a more neutral stance, both of these viewpoints are literal extremes when put in their entirety and allying yourself with an extreme is never good because your subject to the flaws of said extreme. Plus people exist on both sides of the spectrum for a reason, both sides are fairly complex and are deserving of some level of acknowledgement and understanding. Basically this dude is just another liberal leading to boring and unintelligent writing, its like if a christian made a movie glamorizing christianity without acknowledging any of its many wrongdoings while making fun of every other religion.
@@xxrieanrinei4922they’ve been throwing stereotypical jokes at everyone like come on… blm burger… black at it. They’ve never stopped making fun of the left u just find more issues with the corporate left than the literal right
@@NONAM.E00 "corporate left", Blm burger insults an already widely disliked movement and the corporate world not leftist views, that's the difference. Every right wing joke is a mockery of the right's principles, the show is politically skewed and basied. This guy is cool and knows what he's doing. Season 4 has just been ok to me so far but it's only just started and i have faith in Kripke to bring this story home.
Thank God for this man for making supernatural and the boys universe ❤
CW ruined Supernatural by making it go 10 extra years and destroying the lore and characters. They betrayed Kripke on that one cause he felt out said 5 years was his only version of the Supernatural story and season 5 is the true ending.

Nice job with this interview! As a big fan of the first 5 seasons of Supernatural and now the Boys, I’m realizing Eric Kripke is simply the man 🤩
I like the fact, that he says out loud, that no one should root for the psycho Homelander! So many men like this character and he is the worst. As are Tyler Durden, the Joker or Travis Bickle, but there are so many men, that think they are cool and rolemodels...
This is due to media literacy issues and ability to deeply interpret a story played out in front of them, to derive what these stories actually mean and how that can inform how one goes out into and behaves in the world. Stories are more important than we think
They are cool and interesting and complex and I would also say compelling in ways your more purely ethical type of characters can be because they actually represent true human nature were as heroes tend to represent a fantasy or wish for what we want to be as people.
That is why they are so good at holding up a mirror to what we are and yes on a more basic level tend to also be more fun because bad people characters are often allowed to be a little more fun because they are not being held up as role models.
No sane person would think of Homelander as any kind of rolemodel. We do appreciate a good villain in stories that is true, but that doesn't mean we want to be like them, at least most of us don't. Those people you talk about are not men, they are children.
i mean they’re cool but i wouldn’t root for them
Tyler Durden is God
I loved Supernatural so much for those first seasons and though Eric had created a really fuck gritty world that could also be goofy and hilarious at times. I'm so proud of where he is now in his career and that he's had so much success on this show.

Disappointing take, honestly. For years, people tried to paint Snyder as a Rand-obsessed fascist. The same brush was used to uniformly paint his following in the then-prominent entertainment blogosphere.
Not only is Snyder none of the alarmist labels he was accused of being, but so goes for the plurality of his fans. What you will find upon a more honest assessment is that the American exceptionalism that courses through the cultural DNA of Superman and his offshoots, such as Homelander, is understandably party to some subscribers of fundamentalist thinking. Even activism behind the Snyder Cut, which was increasingly proven to be a fact-based fixation, was a reaction to disinformation encouraged by the studio establishment. It is a profoundly reductive habit to simplify both individuals and highly diverse groups into a single undesirable and glib sentiment.

"He's giving very George Bush speeches"
The comics is written interely during the Bush administration and everything surrounding it. I think the show, has much they have been loving puking fun at current American politics, they should focus more on having variety in its satire by mock other stuff. Yes, the world is acclaimed to be political but it doesnt have to inherently focus on Trumpism, alt-right stuff and put the superhero/celeb agenda has a back burner. I thnk that's why this season people are being exhausted about it because its more of the same and the same arcs. He compares South Park with The Boys but from what i can recall through the years of South Park, they have tackled other issues than political stuff and how that they has made become more consitent through the years. They dont just stick with one sub-theme and try to desconstruct it but do more than that. Its not really a valid argument when we know S1 of The Boys wasn't just trying to be politcal.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you take media from a niche genre and make it more accessible to a large and profitable but also loud and sensitive audience, and why gatekeeping is a thing... An IP with darker elements going mainstream typically means it has to lose its originality and spark in some way and adjust to appeal to those who probably wouldn't have enjoyed it in its natural state in the first place, and those of us who could consume the source material _and_ find enjoyment in it must suffer the consequences...
Cannot wait for that one specific group to get super upset about this in the comments. They love to dish it out but can't handle it back. ol

Yeah I think you are supposed to feel for him in a way, a lot of his mirror/breakdown scenes make him more sympathetic, as he is really mentally unstable
There's a huge difference between wanting homelander to become better/feeling sympathy for how he became who he is, and actively supporting him as the hero. He's layered like every other character, and his layers are notably evil but still layers.

Especially after watching episode 4 of the newest season. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do in the next episodes to come
Pff I don't care about his agenda but come on, his satire is not only against one side of the spectrum and there must also be an economic interest in giving a certain message.
