Engineering 101 - Footings

Building a raised porch with filled(concrete) cinder blocks. I think I will need footings. Can I dig 6 fence post footings at 3' deep, then connect those footings with a 1' layer of concrete around the the top of the perimeter? The porch size will be 6' x 12'.

Thanks! We use a combination of Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Audition. The footage is shot as a time lapse with a Canon DSLR.
