This meter is not ready for sale, Rigol need to recall all sold units pending a fix. There is a safety issue here. Thank you Marcel for your work in bringing these issues to wider notice.
Agree, it is not ready for sale. I hope that those videos will help to inform other (potential new) users and at the same time I hope that I can put some pressure on Rigol in order to release new descent hardware quickly. They should stop selling the current ones in stock as I advised my seller. Thanks for your reaction !
Hi, thanks. Meanwhile I am working only with my OWON XDM 🙂. Nice to hear that you have a Hantek and not the current buggy DM858. Are there really no issues with the Hantek, is it 6.5 digits (HDM3065b) not 3068? greetings
Unfortunately, Rigol has informed me recently that there is no clear outlook when the solution will become available (after almost 3 month's in 'Repair').

Hopefully Rigol release new SW very soon, because the current 1.00.00.20 is still from March 2024. That is very long for product with so many bugs. I hope that everything will be solved for you in the coming months !!
Thanks a lot, I was about to buy one. Now I will have to withhold myself, because I really like the form factor. (the low depth it is for me) Any Ideas for Bench Top Multimeters with a similar form factor (depth) and price range?
The only one I know is a OWON XDM1041 - but that is not comparable as it lacks a lot of functions etc (although for the price it is not bad). I was also looking for an replacement of the DM858 with the same depth, but could not find one. Meanwhile I bought an UNI-T 8805e (classic depth)
My Owon of ~110 Euro - which I also used in my videos - is working fine without problems since years. But I like the DM858 form factor with its additional features. At the time I bought it (March 2024 originally) there were no reviews yet, unfortunately...
I ordered this device, let's see what I receive. This hardware problem has a trivial reason. The problem is that in automatic or manual mode with an overload, the protective zener diode at the input is triggered. Theoretically, this can be corrected programmatically by lowering the switching threshold and the sensitivity of the overload detection algorithm. This will reduce the range by 100 instead of the stated 120. But this will be a solution.
I am interested what kind of device HW version >1.01 ? you will receive. According to R&D from Rigol it is an hardware issue. I am still waiting for HW update as my DM858 is still in "repair". The Repair department stated that Rigol HQ is working on a solution. In October I expect an update. However, if you receive your device, please let me know the status. Your solution might be correct, but it would make this device a 5 digit (and not 5 1/2 digit) multimeter after a SW fix or config change. Although I find the current 120.000 count already limited compared to competition which has 200.000 count and called it also a 5 1/2 digit device.

I know is a little bit annoying when spent some hundred bucks and the meter doesn't work perfectly, i got same problem few years ago with other brand. But, very important thing all that issues can be fixed with some software updated.
R&D of Rigol already confirmed that (at least the Impedance in Autorange) is a hardware issue. So my hope of a software fix is now very low. That is the reason I shipped back the DM to the seller. I guess they made a hardware design fault in the analogue front end circuit. May I ask which type of problems you had with the other brand?
@@marcelmostert3081 the hardware problem it's a very bad news, i agree with you send it back to the seller, no doubt. But to be honest when you buy a piece of gear ( for thousand and more Euro) and can't use it from the beginning, it's not a good deal.
