The quote jevil says is iconic and has a lot of meaning behind it, I can do anything, this single line has so much behind it, the feeling that anything you do won’t matter in the end so you choose to do what ever you want, the feeling of having the powers of everyone in your home world so you know you could easily kill anyone you wish, the feeling that you yourself are free from society’s coils unless the player chooses to make you a part of their story yet still you yourself in that singular moment of not being controlled from as much of your own worlds rules…that is true freedom

This really represents Jevil. Though he tries to kill you, as any boss does, he isn't a villain. He just does whatever, knowing there won't be any consequences, because he knows Deltarune is just a computer game and that he's just another character, and that everyone's fate is decided by the player- If the player decides to play Deltarune, they will live on, and if they stop, everything will pause until the player comes back, and if they just ultimately stop forever, their entire coded universe will be doomed to an infinite time stop, and simply having that knowledge is what made Jevil insane, and that's exactly how this OST captures him. Triumphant, Chaotic, but nowhere near malicious.
that can still be classified as chaotic evil in my opinion. he has no _regard_ for anyone else, and will do anything if it's entertaining enough. very fascinating and underrated, overshadowed by equally interesting spamton.

I'm surprised nobody's noticed this yet, but look at how Jevil operates. How he attacks, who he attacks, and the way he acts.
Jevil always uses attacks that are hard for you to dodge, much like a person playing an RPG would. Use as many non miss attacks as possible to ensure your win.
He has a tendency to attack in this order. Ralsei, Susie, Kris. He's taking out the healer, and the damage dealer to slowly corner the Everyman. Yet again, if you've ever played a traditional rpg, this is what you tend to do when an enemy has an annoying healer. You kill them, and then the main guy.
It's obvious to me that Jevil was meant to be a parallel to you, the player.
He, like you, knows this is just a 'numbers game'.
He, like you, strategizes and plans his attacks to take out your pillars before going for you.
Jevil: *smart brain*

I bet that Gaster has full voice acting when we meet him (we probably will meet him in the end, likely in the Weird Route, at this point there’s too much evidence for Gaster playing an incredibly important role in the game, his backstory is even the exact same as Xenoblade Chronicles' 'true' villain and he made the prophecy as evidenced by him.png 1 and 2), or that a creepy, modified text-to-speech accompanies his words (like the one when you open the game which says, 'DELTARUNE'. That might even be Gaster himself, who knows).

Deltarune is most definitely one of the best games I’ve ever played because it’s story is funny and brilliant and the music goes hard and the battle style is brilliant and it’s full of replayability overall I love deltarune to death
But not comparable to undertale unluckily
@@AnToZKrul imo deltarune is better than undertale. I mean, Undertale gies you one of the hardest bosses right at the start of the game making most ppl unable to continue the game and experience the sotryline. Deltarune gets harder overtime. I was able to beat king with about 7 attempts and queen with around 20.

I think Jevil is more than a hidden villain. When he was locked up, he didn’t act like it. In fact, he said that by locking him up, they were locking themselves up, he was free, they were behind bars. That makes me think, what exactly is Jevil? When you battle him, the world starts to spin. We know that before Jevil became this chaos chaos guy, he was the court jester, but he met a certain “someone” and he became crazy. He started speaking in paradoxes, started viewing the world as a game. When seam, heard this, his view of the world grew darker yet darker.. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “jEvIl iSnT gAsTer!” But, hear me out. In Undertale, Gaster and his followers are seen specifically when you have a specific FUN value. What is FUN? A number that stands your place in the universe. Gaster is a character that is only recognized by FUN. And we know Gaster fell across time and space, his body shattered etc etc. Ir Gaster’s FUN is outside of time and space, dosen’t that mean he should know that Undertale is just a game?
Jevil recognizes his fight as a “numbers game.” And I’m very sure Gaster and his FUN revolved around numbers. Heck even the game revolves around numbers.
And let’s be real, Gaster is definitely in deltarune. So, my idea is that Gaster was that “certain someone” Jevil met, and Once Jevil started to know the entire world was just a game, he acted on it. But, unlike Gaster, he was still alive to tell everyone, to warn everyone, but it sounded like absolute craziness to Seam etc.
And when Jevil is locked in his cage, it’s sorta like Gaster’s room, there’s no FUN, there’s no world made of numbers, he’s truly free.
Great theory! But it raises one important question: how can someone, shattered across time and space interract with someone in Kris's fantasy world? Remember, the entire chapter is dedicated to this world of lightners and darkners Kris and Asriel made up as children. It's just not real, while Gaster is. MatPat had a great theory section where he talked about how Jevil is Kris's mind, locked away from his childhood world, but saying the rest of the world is behind bars, except for him.
John Shepherd Well to be fair, Gaster isn’t exactly real. Gaster is real, but at the same time, he is a fantasy. I mean, since he basically erased himself by falling into his creation, he dosen’t exist. But we know he exists at the same time. But, moving on. This world of lighteners and darkeners is just a world kris and asriel made as children, yes, but we still do somehow get into this world adventure this world. I think it has the same energy as gaster. Does not exist, but it exists at the same time. I believe that if it works that way, the gaster should be able to penetrate it in one way or the other. In fact, in that way, it makes it sound like someone is pulling the strings of that world, that maybe Kris’ world as a whole is unreal. This could be used to explain the hidden bunker we find at the most southern part of the game, Gaster was just watching, creating the rooms etc etc. Maybe Jevil became self aware, and actually got to meet gaster somehow or, well, we know Toby Fox and his intense love for fourth-wall breaks. MatPat’s theory is good tho.

when you kill spamtom, he falls dead to the ground and uses his last strengths to help us and thus not dying. This purple clown mf here gets defeated if we make him sleepy, but if we actually go and deplete him of his health, he doesn't die, no death animation, no sad dialogue, he just decides that you are strong and starts helping you, this just goes to show how much power jevil hides from us

I don't think I could fully appriciate this song until he unlocked the Game Over screen for me... and kept sending me there for 4 hours straight
I love this song, because it embodies Jevil's excitement to finally play with someone, but also it's sad, because he's the only one who know's he's in the game, and he got locked up for it because it sounded insane. As the shopkeeper said 'he said things that made no sense, but also didn't not make any sense'. And when you beat him, it's over. Like Asriel in pacifist, he doesn't want the fight to end.
My favorite thing about Jevil: He acts like everything is random, keeps spouting the word "chaos," even Kris' action seems random at first, but literally *none of it* is random. It's all completely formulaic, and you only really see that once you've played his battle over and over after losing.
He's a facade of chaos over rigid order. Absolutely based.

@@Cheirus4212 When you repeat the fight over and over, it's actually very predictable what will happen and when. I expected a lot of things to be random, such as what Kris' act command does, but you'll see there's actually a table of what it does specifically based on turn count. Basically, if you forget that everything is themed around chaos, and perform the fight based on knowing what will happen and when like some kind of time traveler, you can successfully predict all of it. You can't do that with true randomness (ask speedrunners who have to deal with actual RNG and you might get a pretty salty answer).
So yeah. I like it a lot. Jevil tricked me really good.

This song feels so, cinematic. It's wild, then upbeat, then melancholic, then triumphant, all while keeping up the pace. Truly a rollercoaster of CHAOS!!
I always hear people talk about how hard Jevil's theme goes (and it does, oh my god it does) but no one talks about how beautifully tragic it really is. It almost feels triumphant, however there's still a hint of insanity and denial in it. Given by the accordian, mainly. The part at 0:40 always punches me in the gut though, because it's the musical form of "look! I've won! I'm free!" then it goes to a much low tune. A more, "in order to cope with what's happened to me, I've had to twist my world view." The theme is absolutely perfect for Jevil, someone who's been through terrible things, yet still looks at their world as a game. Or, more fittingly, a carousel. A costantly spinning world that never stops, but always stays the same.
I was looking for a comment like this, surprised it's so low. 1:20 especially is super sad to me.

At 1:20 the song just sounds so nice, like Toby actually put freedom into the song. The song does go hard but like you said it is so beautifully tragic because you can hear the denial and insanity, but also the freedom in it.

When you think about it, This is mirror image of Megalovania, the Yang to Megalovania's Yin. Where as Megalovania is a gritty rock song about a villian who plans to destroy everything whereas this song is upbeat, like someone who is powerful that just wants to have some fun. Megalovania is about raw power, The World Revolving is raw fun. Megalovania is about hopelessness in change, TWR involves freedom in choice.
The same applies to the bosses who use the songs: Sans breaks the game, Jevil makes the game (The battle is a game to him). Both Bosses are extremely difficult to fight, but both are optional (Genocide is up to the player's choice, Jevil's requires a side quest), Sans is not satisfying at all, Jevil rewards you depending on what you do. Both react the opposite ways to the realization that they are in a game: Sans is lazy and hopeless, Jevil is full of energy and realizes he can do whatever he wants. Sans' boss fight is cruel and unfair, Jevil's is a fun challenge with an amazing backdrop. Both break the rules of reality, (Sans literally breaks the rules of the game and is infuriating, Jevil has voicelines instead of text boxes, and has attacks the take up the screen, which is a cool surprise). Both can target your ability to heal (Sans' menu bones, Jevil constantly knocking out Ralsei). Both attack before the battle starts proper (Though Sans is straight up cheating, Jevil's is just a cutscenes).
Edit: Sans fights you in such an "unfair" way because the player deserves it, Jevil is difficult because it's meant to be a fun challenge.
Considering deltarune and UNDERTALE are meant to be mirror images of each other, this makes sense.

What i love about this chapter so much is that every main character you meet in the dark world (with the exception of Ralsei who is supposed to represent Asriel) corresponds to a card in the deck
Chaos King = King of Spades (obviously)
Lancer = Ace of Spades
Rouxls Kaard = Rules Card
Jevil = Joker Card
Even more powerful regular enemies like Clover could be just a higher card like a 9 or 10

Seam is a joker, too. The two jokers of the deck are the jester and the magician, and the magician (Seam) is considered higher in power.
