Moderator: Head of European Politics and Institutions Programme and Senior Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre
EPC Talks Geopolitics is a signature initiative which aims to engage globally renowned speakers in an interactive conversation on relevant geopolitical issues.
Professor Joseph Nye, who coined the term “soft power”, explored the different power dimensions within the transatlantic partnership and assessed how the European Union, traditionally described as a “civilian power”, has so far responded to Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. He also addressed current topics of geopolitical competition, grand strategy, and the future of the global order.
Joseph S. Nye Jr. served as Assistant Secretary of Defence for International Security Affairs, Chair of the National Intelligence Council and Deputy Under Secretary of State for Security Assistance, Science and Technology. Amongst other achievements, he was ranked as the most influential scholar on American foreign policy and, in 2011, Foreign Policy named him one of the Top 100 Global Thinkers.
