    Your chickens are so well behaved... if I had my mealworms open and accessible like that in front of them they would be in there eating them up! lol

    All my beetles have come from my local pet supplies plus so I don't think they spray them, but maybe other pet stores do. Just got a lot of mealworms out of my latest beetles and sadly my last two beetles passed. (I never expected to breed beetles, I was just taking care of them cause they were hiding in my leopard gecko enclosure and I figured if they survived all that, they deserved to live as long as possible (which was almost a year!) lol. Now I have my own little farm. 😊

    Hmmm interesting tip about pet store mealworms. I didn't know they were treated/sprayed with anything. It would explain what used to happen with my birds. In the past, there were a couple of times I bought meal worms from pet smart on a pinch when I ran out and my order hadn't arrived. I stopped though because without fail, my starlings would end up getting diarrhea and poop the worms out unprocessed every time. This never happened with breeder mealworms. Now I avoid mealworms from chain stores. Thanks for the video very helpful!

    I must have the most resilient "mealworm farm" because I never wanted it lmao, no humidity, and they still pupate.... But, I have accepted them, and now knowing a bit of humidity would make them super happy, I wonder how proper care will make their numbers boost!

    *Hello, I'm new here watching I just lost a long comment I was leaving you. I totally appreciate this informative video. I bought mealworms for the lizards that come around. I like the idea of being able to have multi uses for having mealworms for the garden. I loved hearing your chicken share its inputs about what you were sharing with us that was too funny. I plan to grow for another fertilizer for the garden. I want you grow a bunch of greenery Foods indoors for healthy eating. The one part I don't like about having mealworms to raise is the Beatles is there too ugly. Worms I can touch all day long but the Beatles no. I need were talking about getting chickens and I would love to be able to help them out with the meal worms. You did a fantastic job with this video share. I'm still watching your video and wondering how much the sifter things cost. 😍😍😍* Sharon in SC

    Newbie mealworm breeder here 😊 I've been collecting frass and applying to my house plants however I've read online that the mealworm skins are good in fertiliser too known as chitin, apparently when you add chitin to the soil it triggers an immune response by the plant thinking they're under attack resulting in thicker stems and becoming more resistant to disease. I was wondering if you used chitin on your plants if so how much chitin are you adding to each house plant? I dont want to add chitin and come down to find monster house plants on a morning! Any advice would be appreciated :)
    Thank you so much for this video too, currently caring for 1500 mealworms, set their storage up, got the mesh for the eggs to fall thru etc currently waiting for my first pupae, got dozens all curled up lying motionless while the rest of my mealies shed like crazy since putting them into complete darkness, cant wait for my first beatle to emerge 😅 such a fascinating hobby

      They absolutely are! They are also a higher protein source than meal worms. But mealies are much easier to raise and I have always fed the egg shells back to the girls for their calcium.

    Have you tried using sand for substrate ? because if you are feeding them food separately then perhaps sand is a good option ? Oats and other things can be served on a small plastic plate separately kept in the middle of the sand box.

      One website article says that it wouldn't hurt to let the mealworms escape the compost pile outdoors. But there was a complaint about superworms getting out.
      Vermiculture does seem easier than even mealworms and can be put into an outdoor area.

    you might want to switch to cockroaches or black larve flies instead of meal worms just for the breathing problems that go with it. You never know when that allergic reaction going to pop. Also. you can split about quarter the mealworm feed with dried azolla or duckweed.

      You can also develop allergies towards dubia roaches colonies

    • @MistressOP
      @MistressOP 8 місяців тому

      true, but it's less likely due to less interaction needed. There's a lot of dust steps to mealworm. It's sheer overwelm with the number of steps with mealworms and I've met a lot of people use to farm them. using full breathing suits and stop because of the problems with them. Because once they are allerigic you can no longer eat the eggs produce from them either. But dubai is a lot less likely but you should always take care with insect farming. @@fawnlove9527

      Really it's just preference. But, If youre selling them or feeding them to other animals, it's easier to grab a handful in your large bin, so you aren't feeding your future generation to continue your farm.
