I realised that a lot of the people in the room participated or are currently participating in the latest UK challenge They are: Banerjee, Dean, Biggs, Keskin (player), An, Hadley, Uttamchandani, Lee (player), Mcgovern, Warde, Baker, Jones (player), Tatoglu (player), Clarke, Bogo
Hi! I’m in the room here and this is a really complicated topic interwoven with patriarchal societal ties and esteem psychology but I can begin to explain this. On a basic level, Quizbowl is a very competitive and cutthroat sport that is not too welcoming for newbies. You have to be super sure of yourself to participate and escape with your self esteem kept in tact. Originally there weren’t many women participating but there has been a shift over the past few years with women/nb people supporting each other. In international and national quizzing circuits some of the top contenders are now women! It’s still largely male dominated and teams aren’t required to include women, but the culture is shifting :))
@@Cheesepuffed Hey!! just wondering, how do people improve at quizbowl then if they are just starting out? ive been following uc and quizbowl for a few yrs now and id love to join a quiz soc at uni but im just curious as to how people improve since its so cutthroat
@ you just need to start with easier tournaments and watch and learn. No one starts out good, you just gotta start out brave. There’s a Quizbowl cannon that you slowly pickup the more you play. Often people will act like a question has been asked a hundred times already and that it’s easy- that’s the stuff you should write down and try to get familiar with!
Such a shame there aren't more of these available on YT.
x2
Oliver, from Oxford was also in the 2019 edition of the championship.
And Micheal was from I believe season 51 of university challenge
I wish these were recorded officially with better audio quality. Still enjoyed them though

But to answer your question, this is just how it ended up this time. They just happened to win the most games.
@@Cheesepuffed Alright, thanks for your answer.

Such an interesting concept but not a single video on YT with decent audio. What a waste of potential
