In the early 1970s, Laraaji’s music, life and career shifted after he started studying Eastern mysticism and converted a pawn-shop purchased zither into an electric instrument. From there, his experimentations grew and by the late 70s, Laraaji started busking with his new sound on the sidewalks of New York. Brian Eno discovered Laraaji in Washington Square Park and released “Ambient 3: Day of Radiance” the third installment of Brian Eno’s Ambient Series. Today, Laraaji is a pioneer in composing works for meditation, deep listening and experimentalism.

i think a little eq and compression could go along way, which any one of us are free to apply :)
In my opinion, the audio does not need to be adjusted. The little bit of distortion when the intensity of sound increases works beautifully well and sounds VERY other worldly. Sometimes that distortion, especially in ambient electronic music, is done on purpose. It's also similar to the distortion heard in an electric guitar as compared to an acoustic guitar, which has its own unique quality and beauty when used effectively.
