HORIZONTAL VS VERTICAL POLARIZATION IN A MAGNETIC LOOP ANTENNA

I'm ea7hvo. I have changed the orientation of my loop from horizontal to vertical and horizontal again. The noise floor raises and the signal reception is worse when vertical.

Interesting! Wondering what overall height of loop is in both configuration? For example, with loop in a Vertical position what is height above ground compared to height in horizontal position?
In both modeling AND empirically, I have found that height in the Vertical position is pretty much irrelevant after about 1 loop diameter BUT in horizontal position, the overall height needs to be about 8-10 loop diameters to have a comparable pattern and performance. If you can raise the horizontal configuration up around 20-30 feet I believe you will have an omnidirectional pattern and performance comparable to the vertically mounted version.
