The Princeton story ended up being more revealing about Earn's character than we all thought. It makes sense why earn flipped out the way he did in North of the border too. Something rightfully his trapped behind a dorm door making him feel subconsciously powerless due to a past trauma.

That story though was so messed up. I think that RA chick was intentionally keeping the suit from him, trying to mess him up somehow, like to make sure he didn't get the job and she got mad when Earn got around her and so she tried to have him suspended. Sneaky racists be like that.

    • @Jimmy1982Playlists
      @Jimmy1982Playlists Рік тому +141

Definitely. I think this RA "friend" wanted Earn for herself, and was mad he was going to a party his crush invited him to... connecting directly to the racist TSA lady blatantly hitting on (even spying on) the man living next to her, while doing people wrong at the airport.
There's this strange mix of admiration and envy, which quickly turns to hatred with people like that.
It's the same with guys. I went to a Catholic h.s. to play basketball that unfortunately had a _bunch_ of racist boys attending. But whenever my brother-in-law - a black, yoked, well-known local athlete - would show up at my school, I noticed the more racist a kid was, the more they'd try and suck up to him, get on his good side, try to be his friend. It was really disturbing... They'd go from telling racist jokes, using racist slurs, to being the black man's best buddy at the drop of a hat. They both wanted to be like him, but resented him for the fact they couldn't be... _really_ creepy.

@@Jimmy1982Playlists The way I sum it all up is "most hated, yet most imitated." They love us and what we create from a distance but, at the end of the day we're just popcultural objects to them, not real people with real feelings.
I've had an experience where a white friend went mask off on me before because they were upset and inconvenienced enough. It always feels like we're one bad argument from being called the n-word (Hard R) or being shown that we're less than by our white counterparts. It really makes it difficult for me to be open and emotionally available to white people in general. Because, you never know if its a mask or not? Are they being genuine? I thought my white friend was being genuine. I spent alot of time with him, gone fishing with him, gamed online with him alot, he's met my friends from HS, we worked together, sat right next to eachother at work for over a year.
But, when the going got tough none of that mattered to him. It was all about him, his situation, and his bitterness and it turned out he held some racist views and he directed them towards me in his anger and frustration.

Do it man. Have zero expectations and go into it with an open mind. You’d be surprised how much just TALKING about it, will help you. Holding it in, allows for you to become a victim and carry that trauma in your own mind. We seek not to share it, for fear that we will either be judged, or that someone will not be able to relate. A therapists job is to remain neutral, mediator of our thoughts and emotions.
I felt the same way you did, until I just up and did it one day. I’ve never looked back and it’s helped me emotionally get to that next level in life, without carrying that uncertainty and trauma. Go for it brother

Nothing wrong with going to therapy and talking about it, but after a few sessions there comes a point where you've pin pointed the issue or issues. If your therapist wants u to continue talking and talking and talking without taking some sort of action to improve or get over your past trauma, then they are simply using you for ur money my friend. My point? If they are not subscribing you some sort of actionable help, then ur wasting ur time. And if theyre quick to throw pills at you, well then, u have a drug dealer, not a therapist.

That stupid Sasha was so jealous of his HAPPINESS and I can't stand that about friendships with white people. I had a white friend and she literally snatched a hat out of my hands when we were shopping and said "you don't need that" like she owned me and could dictate my wants and needs. It was DEHUMANIZING. They aren't happy with themselves unless they are DEHUMANIZING someone else even their own people. I can't trust white people with my true feelings, wellbeing or to genuinely be happy for me. They act like control freaks. And I am tired of feeling like I have to bow to them or that my life and times have to be lived in REACTION to their bullshit controlling behaviors.
And the sad thing is that someone would read this and try to correct ME for how I feel or school me on how to cope with the bullshit instead of correcting a white person for antagonizing.
Honestly, the only thing white people can doonfor anyone else.... genuinely.....is to ask them for forgiveness and to change.

Giving a notice before you enter someones place is always a good idea. But it's also pretty understandable why he didn't.
He thought they were friends. He was comfortable and didn't think he needed to be cautious. He was entering for a specific purpose that she knew about and he thought she would understand. He thought they shared a level of trust that she clearly didn't have for him.

Another great detail in this scene, it’s tapped into earlier in the episode with Wiley where he asks Earn if he was ever accused of ‘talking white’ by other black people. He didn’t just feel betrayed by Sasha, he felt ashamed that he had made it harder for the other 11 black kids in his dorm for the rest of Princeton.
Earn also mentions in the episode with the shitty spray paint artist how him scamming the rich guy is going to make it even harder for talented black people to get further, and his idea of what to do with the fashion sponsorship money was to start a movement based around reinvesting into black neighbourhoods. At his core, Earn feels like he’s not just responsible for himself, but for uplifting black people as a whole (Even on an unconscious basis, as being Black in White America means he is inherently going to be judged not as an individual, but as a representative for his community) whether he likes it or not

I think this resonates with men in general. Because women just have this power to just become the victim in any situation. it's not even women's fault all the time alot of the time it isn't malicious but there's those guys who are crazy and do victimize them. Like in this example I can see how some girl with some trauma who isn't all there in the head could interpret his repeated texts and entrance of her room as creepy stalker behavior. because even though it isn't due to the context for her she's had something similar happen or is afraid of it happening. There's also some people who are affected by their prejudices.

I’m catching up on this season, and all I could think about was Kendrick’s last album, the track Father Time, Mother I Sober, the whole album (which was released the same year as this). This is why I said the album to me was a weed out for those who actually want to evolve versus those who don’t. Kendrick was normalizing therapy through music, Donald was normalizing it by visual depiction. Very powerful. Really hope my loved ones and all men who are at their wits end can explore therapy with a therapist that’s a good fit.
