zaatar is actually a plant. I have one in my front yard. The mix most people know isn't actually real zaatar it's a spice mix that they use in places where you can't find the real zaatar plant.
@@Tibbs142 in Lebonese cooking, za'atar IS a blend of spices with sumac and thyme being essential. It is not a single spice/plant. Just like curry is a blend in Indian cooking and not a single spice.
I thought the main ingredient in Za'atar was thyme, and different countries in middle east use different species of Thyme and that is why all the countries have different flavours.
Za'atar is just that there is no real equiv. its like a cross between thyme and orgegano. personally there is no substitue and to use common thyme u use in western cooking justs just Blah like mold =.= Za'atar is the herb and the seasoning mix. I am blessed I can get a Jordanian Za'atar mix. I use it on everything lol
Yiiiii! I am Lebanese and there is no za'atar without the herb thyme. There are variations of za'atar but every zaatar has thyme as the basic ingredient. This is not za'atar, pardon me.
What!? There’s no thyme in the mix, that’s the main ingredient.... and the bread looks anaemic.... this is not zaatar manakeesh, This is something completely different.
Za'atar bread should actually use zaatar: Syrian/Lebanese oregano aka hyssop. It doesn't taste the same as common oregano and has a nice slight tongue-numbing quality.
First of all she could have saved time(1hour) by getting instant yeast. Or not using yeast at all because bread can still be fluffy without yeast believe it or not. Secondly that zaatar blend was offensive where is the thyme ? And who uses basil 🌿 in zaatar ?
this does NOT even come close to true zakhtar. ingredients are as follows: roasted p/nuts, roasted chick peas, almonds, english thyme, sumac, citric acid, & roasted sesame seeds. My mother was an expert cook and baker, Armenian, and this is our recipe. Since we Armenians are the oldest bloodline on earth, everything has evolved from us. No arrogance here. just the truth. However, girl, you are butchering the zakhtar. When we make zakhtar bread, one isn't enough, it is so addicting, yet healthy.
Tenacious yes and that’s why I said that. As a middle eastern I can tell you that’s not zaatar. Zaatar is an Arabic word for a spice from the oregano family but it doesn’t taste like oregano. It’s closer to thyme than anything. This will just taste like oregano and basil. Zaatar is a type of spice that’s mixed with sesame seeds and we usually eat it with Arabic bread by dipping it into olive oil and then into zaatar. We also make a lot of different pastries with it like what you see here. There are different types of zaatar, the most popular that are often used are a the green one or the brown one which is also knows as Aleppo zaatar. You’re welcome now ya educated.
My first job in the USA was in a Lebanese Bakery,I love Zaatar pies ,Thank you for the recipe 🙏

Tq for sharing this resipi.
Thanks for sharing! I love ur videos!
For homemade zaater Id just recommend to add thyme instead of basil and some marjoran!
Best with tea morning breakfast
there is no marjoram in zakhtar. however, english thyme is the dominant flavor.
I grow it since it isn't available anywhere in the markets.
I don't knead my bread too long. I make it like focaccia bread, with the zaatar.
Is there any replacement of sumac ??
Thanks, Helped alot!!!
Very nice
This is great ... thanks!

Can i used the method wit instant yeast...??plz reply
Yes. You can always use instant yeast. Instant usually makes bread doughier and less flavorful than fresh or active dry yeast.
No one talking about how Joe Rogan was played at the beginning
