    This song would always play on XRT when I was in the car with my mom. We would never talk during, just listen. Such a good song. Makes me think of her every time I hear it now. Rest easy Mom.

      This one has always been tough for me to analyze in terms of what the song is about or the lyrics mean. Some of it seems to make sense and some doesn't (to me). I think in one of his interviews, Mr Mercer said something about usually writing the music first and then having to come up with lyrics later. I believe it!

    I find it interesting that Mercer and the "new shins" play all the old songs that were created with the original Shins members. Probably because the new shins album sucks and is terrible-that is why they are playing all the original hits with the old band. Nevertheless the songs just don't sound the same and are off. Something magical that was with the original Shins members is obsolete. Mercer made a grave mistake losing the original band members. What the hell were u thinking Mercer?

    • @andrewbarrett1537
      @andrewbarrett1537 4 місяці тому

      He wanted to take the band in a new direction, and at least some of the original musicians either couldn't cut the mustard (not enough musical technique / chops) or they weren't playing in a style that he felt meshed with the new songs he was writing. Plus a couple of the guys were already involved with side-project bands at that time, I think. At least that's what I remember reading. I do also miss the old band, BUT the current crops of musicians really do have chops and can bring it.

    • @andrewbarrett1537

      I didn't hear anything "off", but he does change the melody deliberately here and there, to new and different melody notes. He seems to do that on nearly every live performance of most of his songs, and speaking as a composer and professional musician, the way he does it is excellent and amazing IMO. He'a re-composing the song in real time, and IMO nearly every time it's JUST AS GOOD as the version on the recording, which I think is a fantastic quality-to-quantity ratio!!! In this, he's like a really good jazz musician.
