My exact thoughts. I love watching Grumps. but so many times I've just spent episodes shouting to myself how the mechanic they just explain was the solution to the problem.
I think the problem came from the tutorial actually giving them an on screen button prompt, as that kind of implies that you'll always get one in that situation, which is probably why they assumed they couldn't do anything. I was kind of confused about it myself, although I would've tried hitting triangle anyways, just to be on the safe side.

Brisco gave some feeling to his lines it just seemed like his direction was off, but as soon as Pamela started talking I thought "Oh this is gonna be gooood."
All things considered, I think Brisco's voice actor was genuinely putting his all into this role. He probably didn't have much experience, but it's at least mediocre rather than awful.
When I emulated this game years ago, everyone was talking like that as well. As it turns out I was able to change some settings on the emulator itself to make the dialogue come out at what I assume was real-time.
I'd be down for seeing more of this, but maybe turn up the game play volume a little so we can better appreciate these tremendously emotional vocal performances.
After watching Jerma985 play this, I knew we were in for something special. Also, it sounds like the in-engine dialogue was recorded at a normal talking speed but slowed down in post for some reason.
Fun Fact: This game was planned by Suda51, the guy behind Killer 7, Lollipop Chainsaw, and No More Heroes. To my knowledge, this is the only game he has made where you aren't a contract assassin.
At a glance the Grumps seemed to be everything I dislike about the Gamer Era: adults behaving like immature children, laughing and swearing instead of meaningful dialogue, giving actual kids the impression that they never need to grow up and contribute to society. This video proved those assumptions wrong. There are brains behind the banter. The commentary chipped away my presumptions. I had to go on to Part 2, and was sad that we never got a Part 3. It's amazing what laughter can do.
They always do this, it just more annoying this time because they not only talk about it at the start of the episode they titled the damn video to point it out. I'm dipping out on this because at half volume they already load enough to be heard across the house and I still cant hear the parts they aren't talking over.

When I play a game, video, or anything on television that has poor balance, it's extremely obvious. I had no issues during this video. And I know a LOT of people have poorly set up audio because most audio devices come set up poorly.
