this is much better actually. I saw a video that he removed 2 SSD and get 2 enclosures just to clone the SSD from a computer. this is much easier and less hassle than that. You just need 1 enclosure to connect to the legion go and clone from there. props for that! Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this video. Was easy to follow and upgrade my Le Go with 2TB visiontek SSD. Have to say, tried to register 5yr warranty without success. Buyer be aware: Terrible customer service at visiontek.
Great video, David. 😉 Super explains, and everything is easy to understand. 👍 Consider buying a "Lenovo Legion Go" for myself. If you look around the Internet to get one with higher memory (i.e. more than just the measly 512 GB installed), you will currently only find at most offers with 1 TB, which is still far too little for today's games (since they already and in the future need more memory, because they are becoming more and more complex), where the prices for the 1 TB version of the "Lenovo Legion Go" are totally exaggerated. That's why I can't understand, and I think for everyone here, why the manufacturers can't do it better, or what the consumers demand. 🤔 It must also be possible, and it must be made easy to expand the memory itself, if it should no longer be sufficient, without which the guarantee is directly lost. Because it is only a memory card (memory module), which you change (change), and does not change anything about the system (the hardware). With smartphones, this is also possible without problems 😄 P. S.: Therefore, it cannot be that the temperature of the device rises just because you replace a memory card (a memory module SSD) with the same type (the same version) of the manufacturer. There is only more storage available than before. That's all. Similarly, there should be no upper limit on the extent to which the memory can be expanded as long as you adhere to the manufacturer data (memory type designations). 🤔 Because the development, in terms of memory sizes, does not stop. In the future, you could replace your currently installed 4 TB SSD memory card (memory module) with 8 TB without having to buy a new device directly. The same should apply to MicroSD cards. A good product should deal with a higher memory upgrade without any problems. Everyone is talking about sustainability. 😃 Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 to All ✌️ Looking forward to the next videos of you, David.
The foil on the SSD is for Electro Magnetic Interference, not heat. Unfortunatley, due to the size of these handhelds, the VisionTek is the fastest drive you can use without overheating. Sabrent makes one as well, both will throttle the SSD speeds when head increases.
Hi David, would love to see a video of you repasting the Legion GO as well as explaining the certain sizes of thermal pads you would be using as well:) Would help alot as I don't see any other videos out there
Don't use the Visontek drive, they will damage your LGO. They overheat, you can't go bigger then 1TB with a Gen4, you can try a Gen3 2TB. I would stick with the stock drive.
Should you go through all the update motions using this method? Or just start this process as soon as you first boot it up and get it to the desktop screen
Coming from an Ally, this is kinda tedious..the Ally I just popped out 6 screws and swapped out the ssd. I want the Go though…I have a 2tb installed b my Ally. Thinking of swapping to the Go
@@F4ilu2eanyways...since this Brand "Visiontek" isn't really available in germany (only import), do you have any other suggestions, brand wise? Since Corsair is a well known and respected brand here in Europe, i was convinced that my purchase was a good choice. 😅
I have been seeing people having high temps on their SSD. Visiontek mentions max temp at 80 degrees Celsius some people are getting 90 degrees plus. Can you report back your temps. Thanks
There is a 3d printed backplate that will bring down heat by alot ! thingiverse has it and i did this to mine ! 60/65c on the gpu/cpu and 60 on the ssd with thermal pads !
@verydavid that's the whole point. They don't want u upgrading. They want u to spend extra money to buy the console with more memory vs spending money elsewhere. That's a sale potential loss
Extra cost and the possibility of tampering by people underskilled, obviously. I wish they didn't have the tabs under the back panel that makes service tricky, though.
Anyone looking to upgrade their ssd, id recommend not getting an adaptor for a 2280 m.2 instead,...for about the same price youre better off with 2tb extra storage, just got a 4tb 2280 in mine...no brainer
no, but you can get an adaptor. Legion Go uses the 2242 M2 ssd but Steam and Rog uses the 2230, so you need an adaptor. just google to find the adaptor.
thank you bro. i followed your instructions. one thing i would mention when opening the back. watch out hitting the power button. and my power cable had black tape i had to peel too o.o
That's good to hear how would you rate it so far I am planning to get one does the 800 p resolution really look that bad ? Or should I treat it as for what it is a hand held PC rather than a gaming console ?
@@vikramsingh4138 I am using integer scaling which if held at a reasonable distance looks fantastic, performs great. Been told you don’t need to disconnect the battery, you just need to put the battery into service mode in the bios.

Got bad news for you. Word is Micro Centre has done a recall on that 2TB SSD since so Legion Go's have been returned with SSD issues.
You must've seen my video lol? I was a victim of the faulty memory card. At least I think that's what it was lol
Should you go through all the update motions using this method? Or just start this process as soon as you first boot it up and get it to the desktop screen
I think it does not matter, because you're cloning the whole thing anyways, you can update before or after the process.
Do we need to get a heat sink??
What size of screwdriver did you use? Thanks :)
I have a brand new drive. Will this still work even if it's not allocated yet?
whats gonna happen if u didnt clone it before installing?

I agree that it is a bit more involved, but definitely doable if you have the right tools!
are the speeds better then the stock one
Thanks for the video. My "Corsair MP 600 1TB" is on the way...i don't trust the cheapo storages.

If the corsair works, then i bet you are good. I just did not find anything one sided 2TB. For 1Tb there is options.

It actually makes it hotter lol
I dont understand - WHY they cant make special little door for SSD, RAM, HDD like old laptops had? Wtf with these companies now?
I know right?! Especially infuriating when they purposefully make it harder to upgrade even if you’re ready to disassemble like in this case.
