    Some actions need clarification:
    1) When using Privilege you can choose any gem EXCEPT gold
    2) You CANNOT steal gold from another opponent. You CAN steal pearls tho, and this is the primary target for you
    3) You can use both optional actions 'Use the Privilege' and 'Replenish the board' but in this excact order, so you cannot replenish the board and use the privilege token to get a gem from newly added ones

thanks for this! We definitely played by all these rules, but I think some of the wording in the review may mislead people. I'll pin your comment -Ashton

Oh also I just realized, 5:59 should be the 6 VP card. That way people aren't too confused by the same card going on screen again -Ashton

This game is actually a great family game, especially at a parent vs a kid.
I have probably more than 20 two-player games, but my 10 year old daughter actually rank this as the #1 two-player game in my house. The rest are either too dry, too long, too complex, or lack replayability.
PS: #2 two-player game in my house is "Connect-Five" using Go board and Go pieces.

I've been telling everyone that 2 player games will be the new (and well deserved) hotness in board games for the next year or two. I love 2p games and most of my fav games are currently 2p designed or best at 2p. Regular Splendor and 7 wonders I find so boring, slow and too much group solitaire. The duel versions of these are amazing though. Much more fast paced and more strategic decisions.

Ive been waiting for it to take off, surprised it hasnt. One of the reasons for playing abstracts. Solo board gaming took off why wouldnt 2 player?

for me, i dont have many. Some are not strickly 2 player. Sherlock holmes consulting detective. Teilight struggle. And various abstracts, chess, tak and the like.
I recently saw sail and would like to try it out. Its a 2 player, trick taking, cooperative, movement based game. You play different cards from your hand to try and get the ship from one side of the board to the other.

After playing Splendor Duel for the first time yesterday, Splendor Marvel is still my favorite of the 3 Splendor games. I find it more interactive at 2p with more blocking than Splendor Duel. The cards are harder to buy so you can better predict what your opponent wants to do.

@@Shelfsideyes and it improves the game imo. You have to get a card of each color and at least a level 3 card to win. Race to 16 points instead of 15. It's harder to win by just focusing on 2 colors and hoping the market draw luck will be of those colors. But mostly there is now a majority battle for the Avengers symbol on some cards and when you get the most symbols, you take the 3VP bonus tile (longuest road Catan style). That adds a nice extra decision point.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Splendor Marvel. You could argue that if it's more predictable then it's less replayable? I don't know, I'm just trying to decide which one to get between Vanilla or Marvel Splendor.

    • @olivierjodoin2283
      @olivierjodoin2283 7 місяців тому

@@Zunidrap the predictable comment was when comparing Splendor or Marvel Splendor vs Splendor Duel (have only played Duel once). You can better read the opponent, so like in Azul, you can take decisions on what to do based on predicting what the other wants, particularly at 2 players. That's a positive for me, it's not less replayable, it makes more interesting player interaction and blocking.
Regarding a decision for Splendor vs Marvel Splendor, they are extremely similar, but for the nice little twists I explained above I prefer Marvel Splendor. Note that the Splendor expansion doesn't exist for Marvel and I don't know what it does.

Splendor Duel is my wife's favorite game. Between that and our daughters obsession with Pikachu, we ordered the Pokemon Edition of Splendor on Ebay. Thats great too and our whole family can enjoy it together. When I got into the hobby I snubbed Splendor. We heard Century was "The Splendor Killer" and played the crap outta that instead. I'm glad they came out with a Duel version otherwise I might have dismissed Splendor altogether.

My girlfriend and her mom love splendor and I’ve only played it 4 times, every time with them. I have won every game somehow and haven’t played in months just to keep my perfect record. It’s ok though because i’m something like 3-9 against my girlfriend in ticket to ride and she won’t let me forget that (one time I lost by about 80-100 points).

Thank you very much for this video/review! Such an amazing quality through out, sound, video, editing and the content(what you say, how you say it, what and how you show)!
I basically couldn't praise you enough and could go on.
I saw ome or two videos of your before and noticed good quality and even though I subsrcibed, I kinda forgot how useful and very enjoable your vids are to me. I hope I never forget in the future 😊.
You have convinced me that this game is probably for me and to buy it in the future. I love original Splendor and played it a lot (on android app against AI). But I think I need something more crunchy and strategic.
Thanks for mentioning at the end your favorite two player game. You got me curious and will be checking it out on your channel (hope you made a great video like this already about it).
I wonder have you played Point City and what you think of it. (I must check your channel I guess). I saw it played on youtube and feel like I could enjoy it and at the sane time it would be much easier and better fit for my family, particularly young 7yo niece of mine who enjoys board games with me and her mom.
Thank you again, and keep up superb work you do here! 🫡
