I think having a phantom with a higher voice can add a completely different side to the character. I think have a low voiced male for the main shows power, but a high voiced male for the main shows a sign of insanity. And that is what peter is perfect at! BRAVO!
I don't understand the critique against Peters perfomance. He just plays the part differently and he is unique. If you only wanted one phantom, don't go to a different show.
I didn´t like him when i first Heard him as The Phantom on the 25:th anniversaey performance but after i´ve sin him doing the role at Her Majesty´s Theatre in London i´ve changed my opinion. It´s like Michael Crawford. He has not the same Deep operatic voice like most of todays Phantoms but the way he is portraying the role on stage is unbeatable.
+Rickard Nyberg YES. and that's precisely why I went back to watch him twice in 1 week. it's the most like michael crawford and I DIED when I heard it. I love it.
As others have said, he sounds so much like Michael Crawford. That's not a bad thing. He's from Sweden and his English is naturally very nasally. I think he does a good job!
Every portrayal of phantom only gave us more understanding of this complex character, and every actor brings in their own version, i love all the phantoms
I've seen and heard all the big names in these roles... Peter is wonderful. His portrayal of a young and vulnerable Phantom is touching. Ramin and Sierra will always be the perfect couple for me, but anyone who play this at a top venue is damn good, just different. You don't get to Broadway or the West End playing this part if you can't sing or act. Bravo Peter!
This song has two version One for the musical and one that was written for Sara Brigthman , Peter has really grown into the roll . can't wait to see his show.
I think it's also worth pointing out that this performance occurred very soon after he received the role. He's been the Phantom now for months--I saw him a couple of weeks ago and he was absolutely phenomenal. So much so that I'm making a point to see it again before he leaves.
He sounds like a modern Steve Harley. (To me, that's a good thing.) Love him, even though he seemed super stressed/nervous during this performance. He's incredible and definitely in my top five favorite Phantoms.
Whether this is his "best" performance or not--he's still a good singer. I notice that 'Music of the Night' was shortened significantly, missing whole verses. That's not him forgetting the lyrics. This has been done before during medlies, if you watch the videos. He was directed to sing a shortened version of that ballad. So judging him for it is unfair.
They both did very well! I don't even care about messing up the lyrics, the only think that irks me is that they are in costume but he doesn't have a mask. Like I'm not even saying to put on the make up either, just the mask (that's what they did in the movie, wear the disfigurement only in the scenes where his mask is off). But other than that excellent performance!
I totally agree with you! The phantom needs a really rich voice that you can get lost in I find his very sharp and piercing :/ It's all about JOJ in my opinion
2 things. at 7:43 after the line where he sings "let your spirit start to soar" hes supposed to sing, "and you live as you never lived before." but instead he sings, "only then can you belong to me." He may of done this by purpose to shorten the song for air time, idk, just saying. AND at 7:51 ish 7:52 ish he voice cracks when hes holding the long note. Anyway don't let my quirky comments fool you I love LOVE LOVE peter and his voice
Actually, at the first thing that you point out, he is supposed to sing "let the music set you free" before he sings "only then can you belong to me" :)
What are you talking about?? He is supposed to sing 'Let your soul take you where you long to Be' but he gets the lyrics completely wrong and sings 'spirit to start so soar'. That's inexcusable he got that wrong, as a phantom. I agree with people who don't like his voice, it's thin, weak, wobbly, and sounds too nasal. And for all the people jumping on the wagon saying 'Oh he sounds just like Michael Crawford!!' ....seriously, he sounds NOTHING like Crawford. Go listen to Crawford's performances in L.A. or Broadway for that matter and you will be embarrassed to compared his voice to Crawford's. Crawford's voice was naturally higher Yes, but he also had vocal strength and power in his voice of operatic proportions, and could also sing low too. This guy sounds weak and nasal on almost every note. A poor choice for a phantom.
That last note was just painful. Probably an off day, I don't recall him sounding nearly as terrible at West End Live last year. Still, Katy makes a gorgeous Christine.
So a gay man can't play the Phantom? - What a stupid comment. Showbiz is crowded with gay actors and singers; - they interpret characters, - that's the point! Peter brings brokenness, sensitivity and his own passion to the Phantom; a young vulnerable Phantom, - very moving.
Terrible! His voice is much too high for the Phantom and I don't like it or him at all. I was glad to see that he'd been replaced by wonderful Marcus Lovett in October when I was back in London to see my favourite show. Would have given it a miss if Peter had still been the Phantom then.
Adam B. I agree, there are far better and more capable singers in Sweden, although, he seems to be the most popular, one has to take into consideration the money it generates. The fact that he is pretty makes it a very easy choice ;)
+MadskillsMarvin I dont really agree with that, i Think Jöback is a very capable and talented singer but the biggest problem here is that while Jöback is a good singer, Katy here who is from what i can hear a Meso Soprano, he just doesnt have the Deep voice that is needed to carry itself against her powerful voice. I Think the difference in talent (Since she is outstanding, and he is very good but a looooong way from being outstanding) is making him shaky and he's ultimatel trying to push a boundary he does not possess.
I didn't like him in the 25th anniversary finale, and I SURE don't like him now. GOOD GRIEF! How did he EVER get the role of the Angel of Music? YUCK!!!
BarrelsPolesandJack, Let me guess. you think Gerard Butler is the best Phantom lol Peter is brilliant. He's a mix of Hugh Parnaro and Michael Crawford.
I like how he actually portrays the Phantom as somewhat of a psychopath. At least, more than anyone else I've seen. People seem to gloss over his obvious psychosis and obsessive disorder.
+Lewis Russell NOOOOOOO......you are influenced by modern day phantoms!! his voice is exactly the same type and quality of michael crawfords!! I love it ^^
From one gay man to another i didn't like your performance Peter. Your vocal quality may be similar to Crawford's. But then again after seeing him, you, John Owen-Jones, and Ramin Karimloo. My favorite phantoms are tied between Ramin and John Owen-Jones. I've seen this musical live a total of 3 times with Crawford and Brightman being my first experience. And i have to say Ramin and Sierra had THE BEST chemistry out of all the pairing i've seen. There is just something really special and magically when the perform together. They've also done Les Miserables together as well so they had a "jump start" so to speak over everyone else. Anthony Warlow was another one of my favorites but his voice is baritone and the phantoms part was meant for a tenor to sing. So i found that he struggles a bit with his high notes unlike John Owen-Jones who is not only powerful but can reach and sustain his high notes the best out of ALL the phantoms. I say all this because i was blessed with a voice so i've been told and have sung professionally for quite a few years now. So this is just my humble candid opinion.
I don’t get it either. He is amazing. Definitely my third favorite Phantom.
Peter is one of my favorite Phantoms
Listen with your heart to the phantoms love and his pain, not with your judgement who does better, they are all awesome, i love them all
I didn´t like him when i first Heard him as The Phantom on the 25:th anniversaey performance but after i´ve sin him doing the role at Her Majesty´s Theatre in London i´ve changed my opinion.
I love it.
I used to think otherwise, but Peter is amazing and unique Phantom. His 'soar' note was the best i have ever heard.
As others have said, he sounds so much like Michael Crawford. That's not a bad thing. He's from Sweden and his English is naturally very nasally. I think he does a good job!
Indeed! ❤
Every portrayal of phantom only gave us more understanding of this complex character, and every actor brings in their own version, i love all the phantoms

You don't get to Broadway or the West End playing this part if you can't sing or act. Bravo Peter!
Being Swedish by birth, he also starred in the show in Stockholm
Peter, you are wonderful ❤❤
This Christine is amazing! So is Peter!
He is among my favorite Phantoms and hopefully I will be able to see him on Broadway this summer!
Peter Jöback is amazing. I saw him live on broadway, and even there he didn't do the last note that great.
This song has two version
One for the musical and one that was written for Sara Brigthman ,
Peter has really grown into the roll . can't wait to see his show.
wow, Katy was awesome!
what a wonderful performance! One of the best Phantoms and great artist Mr. Jöback :)
I LOVE PETER U.U
Just saw him on Broadway today wonderful performance!
I like the way he sings, "Sing once again with me." It's different than the way any other Phantom has sung it
Peter are seriously one of the best musical-artist in history!
wow Peter du är bäst ,så mycket känslor och vilken röst
I watched Phantom of the opera in new York and it was amazing!! Peter is amazing!!
So good!!! And Peter is sooooooo pretty!!!!
Peter Jöback, du sveriges nu bästa artist. Lycka till!
Fantastisk version! Underbar prestanda! Jag älskade det! Bravo!
YAS KATY MY QUEEN
Applåder....Applåder..Så bra ni är ❤❤
Just awesome!! Love that voice from Peter!!
I think his voice almost sounds like a next generation Michael Crawford.
I saw him as the phantom in the play, and it was amazing!
I think it's also worth pointing out that this performance occurred very soon after he received the role. He's been the Phantom now for months--I saw him a couple of weeks ago and he was absolutely phenomenal. So much so that I'm making a point to see it again before he leaves.
I just saw him and I thing Peter has the perfect voice for the Phantom for so many reasons.
My First Phantom And Christine
ESPECTACULAR !!!!!
The Vocies is so Fantastic ❤❤
Just stellar! Lovely singing and acting. Just a minor slip up in the end.
YAAAASSS PETER
beautiful.
jag hade låten fantomen på operan när jag gifte mig som ingångs musik
the sexiest phantom
This April he will be joining Broadway's Phantom of the Opera as the Phantom!!!!!!
I didn't like him at first because of the 25th anniversary but I have to admit now I think he's awesome - Some very harsh comments though:/
He sounds like a modern Steve Harley. (To me, that's a good thing.) Love him, even though he seemed super stressed/nervous during this performance. He's incredible and definitely in my top five favorite Phantoms.
christine is so talented!!!!
Fantastic amazing
She did actually play Christine opposite Peter Joback in London, so I guess calling him "Peter Joback's Christine" is somewhat appropriate.
I will call Peter The Heartrob Phantom! Good Singing!
I feel the same way. After hearing Karimloo and JOJ, I find it hard to listen to Michael Crawford. I am going to Broadway and might watch this!
OMG i'm in heaven
"This Hugh" happens to be Hugh Panaro. He's the current Broadway 'Phantom' and has performed the role for a very long time.
He is the best!!!
Love him.
Thank God.
I'm agree with you..at West End he was wonderful..or maybe it was also the right atmosphere!
His vocal quality reminds me of Michael Crawford.
I totally agree with you! The phantom needs a really rich voice that you can get lost in I find his very sharp and piercing :/ It's all about JOJ in my opinion
No, it's Katy Treharne, one of the Christine's from the West End production.
Every artist mess up, every human mess up. Deal with it and get over yourself. Lesson's of life!
yes i heard it to..petty..but he still strong
Can I just say, did anybody notice that he sang the wrong lyrics during the second bridge?
The man who knocks would pass by because there's no chemistry here.
I lol'd because I agree with you, and you're right. He is! lol
2 things. at 7:43 after the line where he sings "let your spirit start to soar" hes supposed to sing, "and you live as you never lived before." but instead he sings, "only then can you belong to me." He may of done this by purpose to shorten the song for air time, idk, just saying. AND at 7:51 ish 7:52 ish he voice cracks when hes holding the long note. I think where his voice cracks is just the video failing

This guy sounds weak and nasal on almost every note. A poor choice for a phantom.
Go away and listen to this Hugh then .
And the last note, what happened?!
That last note was just painful. Probably an off day, I don't recall him sounding nearly as terrible at West End Live last year. Still, Katy makes a gorgeous Christine.
Yes, I agree. There was also too much reverb on the microphone
This was trained and planned ,not an accident,Peter can sing you to the stratosphere,I saw him in Kristina twice
연기는 가장 깊다
No problem.
Does she trip at 7:30?
*lol* Yep. Looks like it.
Do you know this is peters tour?
Sorry but the lady owned this massively .... phantom was a let down hes supposed 2 own this .... my opinion but katy ruled this
I WAS being kind.
Hugh is simply taking a break for about three months. He'll resume with the role around August-September.
I shit on that last note. I'm worried this man is the 30th year Phantom.
Aw, he missed the lyrics on the high note :-(
Am I the only one that feels that even though they are both fantastic singers, their voices just don't sound too good together?
Be kind.
yes. i was kinda disappointed.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's just not believable
thts harsh artist are not perfect can u sing at all you would know that if you could hold a note
Terrible! His voice is much too high for the Phantom and I don't like it or him at all. I was glad to see that he'd been replaced by wonderful Marcus Lovett in October when I was back in London to see my favourite show. Would have given it a miss if Peter had still been the Phantom then.
I think he is stressing the song. Is it just me?
Don't watch it then... duhhhh (stupid people sometimes)
it's all about the karimloo :) sorry peter, I'm not feeling the raw emotion
He has trouble to hold high and low notes... Her voice is lovely but he's far to be a great singer.
Adam B. I agree, there are far better and more capable singers in Sweden, although, he seems to be the most popular, one has to take into consideration the money it generates. The fact that he is pretty makes it a very easy choice ;)
I completely agree, He's so handsome, and actually has a pretty voice, but it's not enough to be great singer!
+sebbef82 I disagree, Sweden have real problems with delivering singers, especially capable singers..
+MadskillsMarvin And just remember that Tommy Körberg is from Sweden!
but that made the note weird, and it kinda killed the vibe....
I didn't like him in the 25th anniversary finale, and I SURE don't like him now. GOOD GRIEF! How did he EVER get the role of the Angel of Music? YUCK!!!
nilgor70 This may come as an even BIGGER shock to you…I wasn't actually asking for your opinion. Shocking, isn't it?
nilgor70 Because it's a free country & I can.
nilgor70 Probably because I'd never heard it before, so I didn't know what to expect.
BarrelsPolesandJack, Let me guess. you think Gerard Butler is the best Phantom lol Peter is brilliant. He's a mix of Hugh Parnaro and Michael Crawford.
Live is very different than youtube. He's amazing
Well actually he is gay. I think he does his own impretation of the role. His voice is unique!
If this is what it takes to be the Phantom, I would wear this role like a stylish hat. Sadly, I am not white, and people don't like brown phantoms.
Also, Norm Lewis is going to be preforming on Broadway as the Phantom, and he is African American.
Thanks for the support guys.
Hopefully not Peter's version...
You haven't posted a single singing video on your channel. If you had peters talent, you'd be posting videos like it's your day job.
Ramin Karimloo is one of the all time best Phantoms and he's Iranian...
Katy deserves a better Phantom. Should have had Scott Davies sing instead of Peter.
he can't even remember the lyrics .....
I'm sorry but Peter is not a good phantom. HIs voice lacks the power and depth needed for a role like the Phantom.
I like how he actually portrays the Phantom as somewhat of a psychopath. At least, more than anyone else I've seen. People seem to gloss over his obvious psychosis and obsessive disorder.
plus he's attractive
I completely agree
His voice is very very powerful. Maybe you can't tell in this recordning but it is one of the most powerful i've heard in a musical like this.
+Lewis Russell NOOOOOOO......you are influenced by modern day phantoms!! his voice is exactly the same type and quality of michael crawfords!! I love it ^^
Yuck Yuck Yuck!! They are going to replace Hugh with him? Barf.
Can't wait for Hugh to come back. I honestly can't stand this guy's voice; it makes me cringe.
From one gay man to another i didn't like your performance Peter. Your vocal quality may be similar to Crawford's. But then again after seeing him, you, John Owen-Jones, and Ramin Karimloo.
