I don’t know if they’re continuing the game, but in his stream yesterday, someone in chat told Insym that the developer is working on a new game/project and they were talking about it on their Twitter.
This comment may get lost amongst the tide, but I just wanted to say this much:-- Insym, you've introduced myself to numerous games I would never have been aware of or even considered. Thanks to you (and your wonderful community), I've discovered so many new titles to enjoy and explore. Point being; you're the embodiment of a grade-A content creator, and you deserve every success! TL;DR thanks a bunch, dude :)
i have an idea of an observation duty game where you are a powerful AI of a smart home (like Alexa) where in the morning you do simple chores like ordering groceries, accepting packages, answering the phone, turning on the dishwasher, etc. you'd even meet the family members too. and at night while they're asleep, you're watching over them. and for the first few nights there isn't anything wrong, just a few misplaced items and dirty areas to clean. however, slowly the nights become eerie-items go missing, large furniture are displaced, sounds go off, phones are being tapped, and even strangers will stalk outside the home. it gets even worse when paranormal shit happens where stalkers become intruders who threaten the family. and the paranormal shit doesn't end in the night, it bleeds into the day and now you have to protect the family both day and night from the hostile entities that come to take them.
i also think it'd be funny if, after being told of the increasing threat, the family installs like a laser that would instantly kill the intruders. and at first the intruders are easy to detect. but suddenly they start looking like the flawed versions of the family, and eventually become perfect copies that you have to question yourself whether they are the real family or alternates. i just think it'd be a fun climax.
@@_enki If you don't mind I might try to make that just as a project of mine if I ever can get around to making a full game since I'm all over the place recently.
My hope is the developer sees all of the support this gets and decides to either get working on a different project or continue this one. It's so good and this person has a lot of talent that could easily be turned in to a career.
1:31:38 that looks like an image you could get in Edgefield, turn the lights off in the living room and you could probably almost perfectly imitate that picture
I think it might be a nice idea to have a game where you have to remove the anomalys that are being reported. You can read about the Anomalys and learn about them and the organisation you're working for. Maybe different Anomalys have diffrent ways of removing them and you have to protect yourself because otherwise they'll effect you negatively and cause a game over. I have tones of ideas, but I have no clue about game designe.
I never comment but I have to boost this series' interaction in hopes we get more videos. Absolutely love this style of game, with Mandela Catalogue on top is the perfect combination so I'm praying the devs return to working on it. Much love to Insym and the community.
At 9:30 (ish), the image on the desk was actually a pretty popular image done by Junji Ito I believe? It's a figure obscured by shadow down to the jaw, except for its piercing eyes which are visible at all times. It is used in the retro horror game 'World of Horror' as a sort of easter egg/hidden 'super boss' type entity, known only as 'Something Truly Evil'. It creates distortions in various imagery, comes with its own events and effects on random encounters, and after a certain amount of turns have passed since you first saw it, you get a very difficult boss fight where you're basically forced into a stat check by giving up health and sanity every action as you 'Plead' 'Beg' 'Cry' 'Scream' etc in place of your normal combat actions, and it's usually a game over unless you have a very good run or get lucky since the amount of resources you need to sacrifice to it is random as far as I remember. Super freaky stuff. Also, at 49:50 the long necked one reminds me of an RPG maker game called The Crooked Man. Very similar long-neck-with-head-bent-down vibes.
1:03:00 I see where you're coming from. The only game of theirs I actually enjoyed watching was Murder House, although everyone who played it seemed to dislike the controls. But the story was pretty good IMO
Don't know if anybody's aware of this but there is a very sneaky displacement in the kid's room where the top book on the pile can move ever so slightly and you could tell because the triangle space/gap or whatever becomes slightly smaller
I love that the single biggest threat to a given run isn't anything like extra-sneaky anomalies, or intruders killing you, or anything like that. Instead, the biggest threat is one of TV anomalies showing up and distracting Insym long enough for other anomalies to pile up. XD
That "stop or i'll shoot!" clip is the Mandela catalogue episode I stopped on. The sequence that immediately follows that (I think) was the first time I put my hand up to block my screen in ages... I HAAAAATED it so much, it scared me off watching any further. O__O Thank goodness Insym flipped to another room during that part.
I watch your videos all day and every night i go to sleep , so relaxing and just watching you play, finna sleep to this video right now, love from Texas 🤝🫡
In my understanding, a mimic doesn't need to mimic something that's already in the house. It can be a random addition. But it's, of course, more convincing if it's resembling something that could be there. 26:43 Edit: I don't know, though, if that's close to the official game rules 😅
The dev REALLY should put this on steam. Like, this is what? Third? Forth? Video for this game. Each about an hour long. Pretty sure there's some games I have on steam that I don't have that level of play time on it.
Reflections in games is an uneasy task to accomplish. Easier in games like these, where you can use cheap Screen Space Reflections But oh boy, little i knew... HOW did developer made some surfaces (not only mirrors) reflect LIGHT from flashlight in real time Truly amazing
One round of this game takes 20 real life minutes and goes for six ingame hours. Meaning one ingame hour is ~3,33 minutes long. I think that one ingame minute might also be 3,33 real life seconds
Even tho the game is self-proclaimed "unfinished", it feels like the most polished "Im on Observation Duty"-style game currently out there. Really hope the dev is making more of it and hopefully provides ports for other platforms than just Windows. Would even pay 5-10 bucks or even more, depending on the content.
I think the 3.33 whisper is a reference to CSI:NY, where there was an arc where the head of the lab (the character played by Gary Sinise) received a call every night at 3:33 AM.
with how the game uses contents from Mandela catalogue (images and clips), i imagine the creator won't be able to put this on steam with a price, without permission from the creator of Mandela catalogue. They however can definitely put this as free and have a link for fans to donate.
@Insym just so you know, TV’s turning on can be reported as “electrical” because its an anomaly .. i’ve never seen u report TV’s & stuff so i js wanted to make sure u knew
He did that within 5 mins of the game with the tv in the basement, also on his first video of this there was the "if you see another person that looks identical to you, run away and hide" clip in the living room. I can't remember the timestamp though
After watching you play, I recently downloaded the game, and it gives such great scares that spooked me when I was playing in class. It clearly was a bad idea to do so, hahaha.
Hope you can see this, Insym, but I highly recommend you play Signalis. A very good survival horror with thriller elements, reminiscent of resident evil and silent hill.
I heartily agree that they should throw this up on steam for a couple bucks. assuming they've got permission for the assets they've used from mandela catalogue, it's a praiseworthy fan game.
I wanna see a meme one day: "You heard of Elf on the Shelf, get ready for..." *insert pic of Insym playing this, the image has him in the basement, and something's moved.*
I really hope the devs continue this game and update more, put so many things. But i hope it continue to be this good and we can't get bored Because this game has quality, the intruders are terrifying and curse
I just watched olive sleepy play a game called Para eyes earlier today, it was really fun! (It’s also like observation duty and this game) if you haven’t heard of it, go watch it. It looks so fun /srs Edit : I just looked, and you’ve played it, but I thought I’d still keep this comment up bc para eyes just looks so good and I rlly wanna play it- lmao
With the Nintendo eShop being almost as much of a Wild West of low quality games/asset flips as Steam, I'm surprised there's not an explicit IoOD style game on the Switch yet
I absolutely loved the McDonalds game and tried to play it again recently, sadly it doesn`t work anymore (there will be no more burgers after you sold the first batch)

I can picture Insym scratching his neck violently and asking, "Yall got any more of that Observation Duty game?"

I dunno about replicating it, but the actual image is from the video The Mandela Catalogue Vol. 1 in the series over on the youtube channel.
I appreciate that this game doesn’t rely on jump scares to be effectively scary.

28:15 ~ It said "Person is on the left", as in the other one being "other". Just in case Insym or anyone else wondered. Didn't see it in chat lol
It sounds like the developer suffered from being a perfectionist. Its a pretty common occurrence for solo developers.
