To all the appalled folk in here, I'm a long haul trucker and it's pretty difficult to fire up the grill in my sleeper, but I do have an air fryer. So this is pretty useful for me.

I am trying out as I am not skilled with airfryer. I am more in the trad cooking style. I think the best way is under cook. Ideal, let the meat rest equal to the frying time. To me 13 min sounds long. I like it rare tho. Even my chicken is under cooked. The resting time equal to frying time will cook the chicken through as it is tender and juicy. It's like jelly. It's amazingly juicy. Let's say chicken breast cooked for 9 min. Let it rest for 10 min. I use to place chop sticks on a plate and chicken/meat over the chop sticks as the meat drains without getting soaked in it's own juice

    @Paelorian Рік тому +2

That steak would be so much better after cooking *one more minute in a frying pan* with some oil.
If you must cook a steak in an oven, don't do it at 400°. Cook it low to cook evenly and dry out the surface, as in the reverse-sear technique (170-250°F, depending on your patience and how thick and wet your steak is). Finish by broiling each side at the highest your oven can do. Air fryers can't always broil, but convection ovens and air fryers are good for high-heat roasting since they blow away the steam coming off the meat so the steak will brown faster and more evenly. So cook low for evenness and to prepare the meat for a final quick blast of heat to brown the exterior without overcooking the meat.

I’m sorry, but that looks terrible. For something that’s really not that hard to cook, I don’t see a need to cut corners and compromise on flavor. My go to method now is reverse broil. I cook it in the oven on low (200) until the inside reaches 110 degrees and then broil it a few inches from the broiler at 500-550 flipping it every 30 seconds until it reaches 125 inside. Let it rest 10 mins for medium rare. The crust that you develop is more even than searing in a pan and very little grey band.

Looks overcooked. Would back down the time. Maybe 8-10 min. Reverse sear finish in pre heated pan with butter if you want that crusty exterior

Reverse sear on high heat is a good idea

Not well executed, but methodology is sound. Just air fry it for 5min then finish in a hot pan. You can get an amazing crust and med rare interior.

All these folks crying about the lack of crust, like you can't just pull it out of the air fryer a few mins early and throw it under the broiler for a couple mins each side 🤣 it's already cooked in the air fryer, can just throw the steak straight on the broiler rack and the drip mess will be little to none

It’s going to come out chew it though, look at how little red it is. Better to cook it slowly.

    Well, that looks... edible.
here's how I would cook a steak in a air fryer, but only in a emergency situation:
first I would cook it at the lowest temperature setting until it's close to rare internally. Then I would remove it from the basket, while cranking up the air fryer temperature to the max until it's
insanely hot. Cooking for a few minutes hoping I could get the best browning possible.
That should give a decent result. Kinda like reverse searing but with an air fryer instead.

You can just do it with the rub Gordon Ramsey used and it turns out well

Looks like it came off a steak buffet. Steamed steak?

…And free from delicious crust that’s developed in a simple cast iron skillet and free from flavor. However, definitely full of grey band.

Shouldn't coat in any oils as even olive oil turns to hydrogenated fats and don't need them in airfryer

I've tried it. You can't get a decent crust or sear on a steak. You need a smoking hot pan or grill to achieve this.
