Josh O'Connor on how he became Prince Charles
/ gqrecommends
His posture was truly Charles. Just that alone really got him in character. He was terrific in the role.
and the ears hehe
Thought it was just me that noticed this. Embodied him spot on
I actually was always thinking how his neck must hurt so much by the end of the day lol
He was also terrific in God's Own Country. He is one of those actors that truly becomes the character. He is so light hearted and fun in real life which is so surprising considering these serious roles he plays. I see why directors want him.
Yes he played Charles brilliantly. The body language everything was absolutely spot on!
The ‘ears’ instead of ‘yes’ is something I won’t be able to un-hear
Ears, me too
Ears, ears, I agree
same
So clever
I also sometimes hear it as 'E-years'. with nasal emphasis on the 'E'.
He's an incredible actor if he can make people actually feel sorry Charles.
he can!!! i feel sorry for him after seeing it
so true!!! i really tried to be sympathetic but then i remembered how he ruined diana’s life. next season all of the sympathy is just going to go right out of the window for everyone.
@@zoemagin-upshaw7595 that may be what's intended ..
zoe magin-upshaw Sadly, I think Diana and Charles were played against each other. They were very different types in a horribly stressful and controlling situation. Royalty is like the Mafia, once you’re in your in it for life.
I felt sympathy for Charles before the crown. I read a book about the Queen Elizabeth's life and obviously the problems with Charles and Diana and Camilla were mentioned. He just always loved Camilla and didn't know how to handle the situation with Diana. We talked about lady D for 2 decades now portraying Charles and Camilla as the ones responsible not only for her marriage problems but also for her death. I think it's time to understand also Charles's position and forgive him after all these years.
Man's way too good looking to play Charles lol, still nailed the role tho.
I mean prince Charles was attractive in 60s
Alf Blue The Duke of Edinburgh was attractive when he was younger, so was Charles when he was a teen/young adult!! Prince Edward was also very handsome! And if you look at pictures of teenage Prince William & Prince Harry, they were heartthrobs! The royals were handsome, but as they aged everything turned upside down 😂
Girls swanned after Charles in the 60's he was considered to be quite the catch
@@Lyshie7 Prince William is still sexy and handsome-- not in celebrity way, ofc. Especially after The Cambridge's phenomenal tour in Pakistan. He still has her Mama's sharp eyes.
@@Lyshie7 unless Prince Charles still has hair.
Charles and Anne were my best characters this season, both actors did a great job.
And Diana too
@@priyankeebordoloi6676 when did you see Diana this time??? 😆🤔🤔
Yup
I think they did a fantastic job casting this season! Really 10/10 on almost everyone - I was even concerned that Helena Bonham Carter platings Margaret would “take me out” of the series but she did a fantastic job as well
Philip too
Bet he is glad he wasn't playing Andrew
😂😂😂
🤦🏻♀️😂
Daymn 🤣🤣🤣
😅😅😆😆😆😆
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He nailed the role. Prince Charles should thank him, this guys made Charles human in some ways.
Thank him??? Make him a Duke
Seriously. Josh is so naturally charismatic I almost wanted to like Charles 😂 but yeah, still ended up disliking Charles but appreciating Josh’s sublime acting in The Crown.
Funny, I think he was always human
He is the revelation in season 3.
Tywysog Cymru is one of my favourite episodes! Loved all of them, it’s in my top 5 fav of all 3 seasons.
He was a revelation in God’s Own Country.
@@Qacc6 wait, he's in God's Own Country?!
Totally agree, The sweetness of His Charles was impossible to deny, the mannerism and accent were on point
Absolutely
Brilliant actor. I never imagined I'd be moved by someone playing Charles. Now I even have pity on the real prince - but then I remind myself that Charles wasn't that naïve in real life and that he knew very well he was using Diana as a scapegoat.
Don't worry the show will get to the Diana stuff.
Yes, completely agree
Every time I find myself rooting for him I remind myself irl he’s a Scorpio
Tony Bittar well... Diana wasn’t a saint either
@@cecy2 true, cecilia. All of them have some parts in the wrong.
He's so attractive though... I literaly can't take my eyes off of him
Jesus, I'm so thirsty
He played an absolute blinder as prince Charles nailed his accent lived Josh playing him.
agh his beard
@@ethaneblaghie7583 YEESS He is soo handsome and cute with it :3
calihartley2010 Dude wtf ??!
He is really the stand-out for me in Season 3. I am hooked each and every time he is on screen. My favourite episode is Tywysog Cymru.
Very emotional to me that episode, I love his performance. It is also my favorite
This seasons Claire Foy, perfection.
colin the dog from SPACED agree 100%
Do you mean Olivia Colman?
@@rainaire i was a bit confused at first too. I think they mean that he played Charles as well as Claire played the young Queen (which is to say, amazingly well)
@@rainaire Claire is actually in one of the episodes in season 4!
@@maritrekkers4392 what episode?
This boy is a good snack: healthy and sweet. Jokes aside, he is the real revelation of this season, outstanding actor.
@calihartley2010 I'm cawling the cops.
@@minhhuyle43 why? He's asking the most important questions
He left me with mixed feelings watching this season - he so pulled it off as old Charlie boy & yet at the same time I found him so attractive. Oh Lordy the inner CONFUSION 😳
carmeenamack Haha I can assure you, you're not alone😏😱😂!
People found him attractive back in the day apparently.
DSQueenie you mean they found his throne attractive
Ibrahim Jamaawil no, legitimately he was considered attractive.
Hahaha I had the exact same problem
I’d be so stressed to play the character of a person who’s still alive 😅
I knoww right 😅
and that person is a royal
@@sifaazh ikrr
i'm so sad bc i know im gonna start to hate him in season 4 when diana comes around. such a great and talented actor
Aleeza A agree, I just can't wrap my mind about how Charles used Diana, she was the lamb to the slaughter. I'm so glad Camila isn't William and Harry's mother, can you imagine? They'd be so stuck up and totally not relatable. Diana had her flaws but she was far better human being than the royal family.
Well... Do you now?
It totally happened.
From the way he hunches to the way he fixes his coat every time he stands up, to the way he plays with his signet ring, I absolutely LOVE how committed to this role Josh was. Completely underrated and underutilised actor.
Loved him so much in The Durrells! He was deadly as Charles. Wales episode was so good. I wish there had been more Prince Charles scenes. Actress who played Anne also brilliant. They played very well off each other.
Should be a lot more Charles in season 4
He's truely awesome this series, single handedly saving Charles' reputation lol
Hahah l love that.
And then the next season dropped lol !
Brilliant actor. I never imagined I'd be moved by someone playing Charles. Now I even have pity on the real prince - but then I remind myself that Charles wasn't that naïve in real life and that he knew very well he was using Diana as a scapegoat.
I love that he wanted to ask Charles about what it’s like being a stick out eared man! So funny!
Dorothy Bilbrey My grandpa was a stick out eared man My nephew is a sticked out ear man. I am loving the Royal ears, is what I’m saying.
Josh O'Connor fabulously plays the part of Prince Charles. He is a very talented actor with his whole future ahead of him. Much good to him.
Oh yes, can’t wait to see what else he does. Whatever it is, I’ll watch it lol
He was so good in the crown. So lovable
I'm so glad that Josh O'Connor is portraying Prince Charles so truthfully. Years ago my mother, as a mature secretary, used to work for Prince Charles at King George's Jubilee Trust (the first Royal Trust). He was then a young man just out of the Navy and at that time, if not conventionally handsome, definitely very attractive. She found him likeable, always enthusiastic about the work they were doing for young people and kind and courteous to her. But she was shocked that at their formal office meetings the curtains were always drawn and the lights put on because he was under constant threat of being shot at. His is a very strange life and he has been subjected to far too much unjustified criticism. I'm very glad he has lived through it and now has a happier life. Josh has captured his instinctive kindness and vulnerability, as well as his appearance, just right and for me he is the star of the series.
CharlotteinWeimar I agree , I have always sympathized with Charles & understood that what the world mistook to be coldness & aloofness was intense shyness, sensitivity & vulnerability, he was an extremely intellectual and an artistic man, not an alpha aggressive, athletic conventionally charismatic matinee idol like his father , & he’s been under enormous strain since early childhood that has never let up , always under pressure , always being the odd man out despite having such high status , & the globe worshipping Diana & ignoring him ,then vilifying him for everything that happened , it’s only in this last decade he seems to have peace & looks so happy with Camilla , she’s so good for him & understands him. Charles shouldn’t receive the sole blame for what happened, it was a product of the times, what the Royal family demanded of him, who they considered suitable , & they should have realized Diana , despite her aristocratic lineage & virginity was not the best candidate as she was too young , terribly emotionally immature, with extreme social anxieties & traumas of abandonment from her family’s divorce to step into that global prominence without their being repercussions.
@@julianarose9872 Thank you for your sensitive and helpful reply. I hope Prince Charles will be appreciated more and more as he is a decent man, always trying hard to do his best.
Thank you both for your mature, kind and wise comments! Agree with both of you, can't even add anything since you said it all!
Finally the truth has been spoken
He also has what a lot of them don't have. Charles isn't beautifully handsome but he filled to the brim with charisma and confidence. Charisma and confidence will take you farther than beauty ever could.
he's better looking then the actual prince
Happy isZahra . So true.
that's not very difficult
obviously lol. the actual prince has elephant ears
duh.
Polly Bennett was the amazing movement coach who worked with Rami Malek on Bohemian Rhapsody for Freddie Mercury. What a broad career she has had!
I find him kinda really attractive
He's so dreamy! He made people look back at young Prince Charles and trendy again hahahhaha
Loved him so much in Gods own Country, now the world gets to see how brilliant he is on a even bigger scale!
Yaaasss
Loved him in Les Misérables
@@mai.vancon me too - ahhhhhhh Marius
He killed it in Gods Own Country
Yup
I have so much newfound sympathy for Prince Charles after watching The Crown. The real life Prince may not be exactly the same as the character, but I was surprised to find out that some of the gestures of kindness I saw in the show are indeed based on real-life events. And Josh O'Connor did an absolutely great job portraying him.
Me too!
Lala remember it’s a dramatist’s impression, it’s not rooted in fact.
next season all of the sympathy is going right down the drain when diana is introduced. so sad, but proves what a great actor he really is
@@zoemagin-upshaw7595 Yes, and it shows how 3-dimensional people are. Everyone in the show has reasons to love them and hate them all at once. Which is a lot more true-to-life.
Prince Charles is beautifully and truthfully portrayed by Josh. See my other comment and you will understand even more. He is a kind an decent man.
He did an absolutely brilliant job playing Prince Charles.Truly admire him for his realism and dedication to the role. I had no idea about this slice of the prince’s life during that time and really makes me empathise with him even more.
Very important point, Prince Charles talked about climate change when everybody thought 'Oh goodness you snob, can't you find a hobby that makes you feel helpful and doesn't affect us!?
Outstanding acting job. He humanized Charles and is a fantastic actor on all counts.
He absolutely nailed the part. In my opinion the best one of this season.
HES THE BEST ACTOR IVE EVER SEEN TO PLAY SUCH A NARCISSIST. BIG LOVE.
he didnt do charles' ugliness justice.
I agree with you! Charles is unattractive, for sure. Diana was way too beautiful for him. Josh is so adorable that I wanted to hate him as I watched but I couldn't fully😄
Yes. I agree 100% with you.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH i cant
This is the only thing he did get right
I think he did get Charles' petulance and arrogance down though. Josh is a LOT nicer and more charming person than Charles is.
He was so remarkably brilliant! His voice was on point. I can't wait for season 4 ❤
Omg the “yes” and “ears” thing is amazing
What a great smile he has & an amazing performance in The Crown.
I fancy this man more than anyone in Hollywood at the moment
season 3 made me feel so bad for prince charles. Which I never thought would happen
Don’t worry, season 4 would fix that right up
He is so adorable, i love him. Since The Riot Club and the Durells.
Josh is GREAT in Durrels and great as Charles. I just adore watching him acting
If you watch the house of windsor, you can actually say that he portrayed the young prince charles really well. The mannerisms, the way he talked. And he's attractive too. Erin did a good job as princess anne too.
Hooooow is he so hot? I can't with this cast... Season 1 and 2 were already so packed with incredibly attractive people but this season they still didn't disappoint!
He is incredible, especially in God’s Own Country..
I just fell in love with him after watching this video. His accent and his voice are so beautiful, I could listen to him speak for hours and hours and never get tired. 😍
The most handsome prince Charles. And he looked so tormented, it was touching.
I love it when i discover a worthwhile actor and Josh O'connor really worth it in GOC was magnificent and here is really the revelation. Hope i can see him in more production!!!
It's crazy how such a small area that is the UK can have that many distinct accents.
Glad to share the majestic name(maiden) of O'Connor with Josh. O'Connors were the last kings of Ireland, Eire:)❤😘
Loved him in the Durrells in Corfu. He was perfect in his role as Charles.
I watch The Crown with an open mind as each characters reveal themselves (maybe dramatised/underplayed). Its an eye opener how each of them gone thru a very turbulent & challenging past. What we dont know is what princess margaret, p.philip, p.charles were subjected to.... its not all silver & gold
I think he was superb at the role
that is one of the strongest aspect's of the Crown - the casting
Loved him in 'The Durrells' and then saw 'Only You' and fell super head over heels 🥰🥰.
Now that season 4 is here I no longer feel sorry for Princess Charles.
I’m such a fan girl.....He’s a brilliant actor x
here while currently watching season 4 episode 1! why is he SO CUTE? 😭 the moment he's speaking with Diana while she is dressed up as a tree and he is intrigued by her omg the way he smiles at her is so cute 😭
What a brilliant actor I love him in the durrells so sweet ❤
He is amazing. He made me feel sympathetic to Charles which is practically impossible for me😅
😃
He is so lovely!
From the Durrell’s of Corfu to the Crown, I am glad that he is getting all the attention he deserves.
Please please please don't forget God's Own Country. Masterpiece.
And Les Misérables.
I loved him as Larry!
Charles probably wishes he looked like Josh lol. There’s a resemblance but Josh is clearly a smoke show 😍
ok, I'm here after crying all my tears watching episode 3x06 "Tywysog Cymru"! He's definitely AMAZING!
He’s so talented. A wonderful young actor.
You did a fantastic job playing him well done

Never heard of this man before watching the crown, What an amazing actor, He got it spot on
Just perfect casting
Wow. Looking at him now, I find him much more attractive that when he is in character. I think he did a very good job. Hopefully we'll see more of him in the next season.
Josh is wonderful, actor and person.
He was AMAZING! I'm in season 5 right now and I miss his acting lol
“Not in real life but as Charles” the thought of him just walking into store and just waving to a crowd 😂😂😂
I love Josh so much. He looks so much like my ex whom I still love and miss to this day. We were preparing to get married when we had to separate in June 2015 because he chose drugs over starting a family. OMG! He really reminds me of him big time..
I'm a big fan of Olivia Colman (and the entire cast from this season really) and before i watched season 3 of The Crown i really thought she was gonna be my fav, but Josh i think was the best element from this season.
His performance was soo powerful! his scenes were the highlight of every episode, and make me want more! i wish there were more scenes with Charles. He is really the revelation this season and one of the most promising careers in british cinema!
I also think He is one of the best young actors from the business.
Oh golly, he's lovely. Love watching him in the Crown.
As a male I can honesty say he’s farrrrr to good looking to play prince Charles
Josh will be one of the greats. He is just getting started
Josh O’Connor is way too good looking to portray Gladys’ Fred 😸
Nahhh - those ears are way too small.
Yess😁
Connor Foley he will be recasted later on the other seasons.
They look big to me
Omg the ear and yes part was crazy. He nailed the accent!!!
There's honestly something uniquely attractive about Josh. I'M FOR IT.
It’s very hard to be mad at him in the series because this man is just beautiful
He made me nervous¡ watching the third season , so handsome. In the fourth season he became a villian.
He's so good looking
I'd love to talk to him about his experience as a stick out ears man. He's priceless!
He was one of the highlights of season 3!
He did a wonderful job. Nicely done!
Hi Josh! You did a beautiful job on the Crown and the Durrell s yr a brilliant actor Josh love from California🌸🌸🌸

He’s too beautiful
I find him very very handsome! 😍
He's adorable! And I loved his wardrobe, Charles has always been a snappy dresser.

Josh did a good job portraying Prince Charles
I hope Charles realizes the honour it is to have this guy chosen to play him
