they had 4 members to do background vocals yet they still chose a bunch of other vocalists ☠️ and the worst part is these bg vocalists sounds like the other members
Ally in Normani’s part OMG!!! It irks me so bad how most of their female writers left their vocals all in the song at the expense of singing time for the girls actually IN the group. Bo$$ is diabolical with the way Tayla sang practically the whole song with the girls (minus Dinah) just layered over her. How hard is it to re-record the bg vocals from the writer’s demo? Damn… Going Nowhere is one of the few tracks I completely agree with being Camila dominant. I don’t think anyone else could’ve ate the chorus like she did. Ally perhaps, but the rest I can’t imagine. The low harmony in the prechorus has always sounded like Mani to me. I’ve been saying the prechorus is just Camila, Dinah, and two Normani layers for years even though a lot of people think Lauren is in there too.
I have always believed fifth harmony members should rotate on choruses. For example, ally or even lauren (she has sung it live) could take the lead in a chorus or co-lead with camila. Most of their choruses being the same end up tiresome
@ I agree the choruses being sorta samey got old and it would’ve been better for them to have been more fair or at least creative with the distribution. As for the GN chorus specifically, it was a bit high for Lauren even though she sang it live once. It has multiple phrased D5 belts which only Camila and Ally were really capable of doing regularly at the time with heavy choreo and without straining. They lowered the key of Miss Movin On live so Lauren could dodge the Eb5 and the D5 was still kicking her ass 2015 onward.
Great find of Ally in the bridge! Once again, here go the backing vocalists doing the girls job. Normani, Ally, Lauren and Dinah would’ve killed those harmonies in the chorus but whatever. Regardless, this is my FAVORITE off of Reflection. Lauren and Dinah really claimed it with their adlibs at the end 😍
4:23 so the talking low part is Normani and I’m also hearing another harmony with Camila right there “where you goin were you tryna go” is that Normani as well but lower
I don't know how to put this, but I'm really surprised people always try to hear the girls doing the majority of these bgv when you can clearly hear it's none of them, just the writers. It doesn't even sound like them, honestly. I find this very odd, tbh

você filtrou tão bem a Ally 5:53 😮 eu suspeitava dela nessa parte mas nunca tinha escutado tão bem
Still can’t believe how amazing Dinah’s whistle is in this. (And glad that someone realized from the get go it was her)

The lower harmony is either Normani or one of the writers
