    I was skeptical about this product, but I just purchased a pair of marble klangbogen for my cannonball alto and tenor horns and they make a difference.

    to be honest, I suspect that my tone and playing skills need more work and to be at a higher level before the benefits of the Klangbogen Bore could be heard.
    I get why people are wary of the Klangbogen - I have to admit I'm usually very VERY sceptical about faddy-gadgets but this does make sense to me: this is basically about pressure waves and how the resonance and vibrations in the horn's construction can change those airwaves. When you think about it like that, this is a similar principal to car exhausts and we know for a fact that changing bore diameters and air-wave restriction can have a huge impact on the sound of an exhaust. It can also create / reduce back-pressure - which, in sax terms, impacts on how easy it is to blow the horn.
    So to me it seems reasonable to expect modifications to be able to change the volume, tone and ease of airflow.

      I was extremely skeptical too, but more and more, I am seeing folks using heavy mass screws, the Klangbogen and other things to add mass to the horn at particular spots. I know the Klangbogen helps even out the tone on my Sirus tenor sax, and a weighted screw from Matt Lee helps do the same on my Trevor James.
      But YES, always work on your tone first...these gadgets are for efficiency later on.

    I have been playing the sax for about A year but playing the guitar for about 30. This is like the obsession guitarists have with pedals. It's never ending,Just practice the sound will get better.

      Pedals actually have an impact on your sound.

    I've got an Oleg Music neck for my tenor. I bought a couple of horns from Oleg like 40 years ago. He was repairman to the heavyweights in L.A. back then. The original Mark VI neck sounds pretty good too :)

    In regards to this being crap or Mauro:
    I'm not interested in arguing about it with anybody, but I will say that a
    I ordered one of these after Donna had done a video saying she'd heard the difference it was making for some of those once they put them on their horns at NAMM.
    I was really hesitant about them myself. But, then I got to thinking about how much just changing your reed can change your sound for the better. It is the vibrating reed that creates the sound. Then I remember years ago hearing that just changing your ligature could change your sound too. That was foolish talk to me at the time. But now I know it makes a difference from having heard it for myself.
    So the idea of mounting a weight up high on the horn possibly improving your sound or the playability of the horn made sense to me since it is a resonant instrument.
    I emailed Reed Geek and told them I didn't know what finish to order. It's often accepted that different finishes on saxophones can change their sound. I don't understand why, but I don't have to. I just want the most desirable sound I can get out of it.
    I got a prompt response from Mauro letting me know he was flying but would call me once on the ground. Then - he actually did - was super nice - and took the time to tell me which one he suggested for my particular horn and it's finish.
    At that point I was just wanting any extra edge I could get to the best sound possible for a project I would be recording for my wife shortly after that, so I took the gamble and ordered it.
    I haven't recorded myself playing the same thing with and without it since then to really say how my sound changes. But I will say that I can feel a difference in my horn in regards to the notes coming out easier.
    I don't regret buying it and leave it on my horn now - and really appreciate Mauro for having taken the time to call me like he did. And I likely will eventually buy one of his Reed Geeks. The only reason I haven't yet is because I feel my time is better spent actually practicing on the reeds that come out of the box playing good rather than trying to make a reed that sucks - suck less - by guess on what I need to shave off it.

      This shows the problem with "trying it for yourself". People can be influenced by what they see. A different colour can affect what taste you think something is. Our senses aren't the best at interpreting data. Then we arent' so good at understanding information because we attach too much importance to certain things. For instance if we test silver plated saxophones and get a bright one out of 3 we think it proves the rule of silver being bright. But you may get a sample of three lacquered saxes and pick out the warm one. Each group of three could have dark, bright and normal but we think silver is bright. We don't analyse the data properly.
      Then you have to cope with the power of expectation. Another influence. If you do something different to a horn it's hard to blow it the exactly the same. Blow a little different and you will get a different sound. All you are looking for is a difference in sound and you've got one - not from the gadget, but from you.
      So you can't try and and say "I heard a difference, therefore it works." These things need testing properly. That's the sort of thing they do in science and for these sorts of reason scientists use more rigorous tests. Double -blind testing is needed to show if these things work. For double-blind studies of any of these gadgets that are supposed to improve your sax sound by some magical means, we're still waiting. No added mass, sound arc, sound bridge or fancy neck screw, thumb rest, cryogenic treated gizmo has ever come up with adequate proof that they work. All they offer is, "try it and see", which leaves you wide open to all the influences I've described and more.

      HI Marshall,
      I used to think this stuff was ridiculous, then when I was at NAMM and watching/listening to player after player doing a before and after with the Klangbogen, I was convinced. The difference was striking. I was shocked. I've talked to a number of repair people all over the US, and they have been saying that weighted screws and the Klangbogen have made a difference (and are also selling their own weighted screws!).
      There may be studies out there, but I know for me, I heard a difference in others and myself on my back-up horn. Not necessarily on my Mark VI. So, I would use it on the backup but not the Mark VI.

    The whole Patreon thing has stuck in my gut now. People who once shared their knowledge freely on UA-cam now have spring boarded into private channels for those who provide money. Knowledge as a commodity!
    I can’t really complain about individuals whose videos I have enjoyed up until now, but collectively, this shift has destroyed UA-cam’s spirit of knowledge sharing. Some do not much more than adapt and convert what is already freely available to them on Wikipedia or other sites, into currency and it’s completely unreferenced!
    It happened to radio and TV and mass and social media. We move and duck and weave to avoid advertising and commercial exploitation, but there will always be people who see the world as a place to make money and they will chase us for their own gain.

      Depends on the brand of horn, but you basically loosen the neck screw and/or the lyre screw, insert the Klangbogen screw, attach the Klangbogen bow into its screw and tighten your neck and/or lyre screw. Check out the ReedGeek website or their youtube channel for more info. They have a new one-piece construction as well.

      No man, the sound difference is clear to hear specially at the end of all high notes (smoother and focused, without doubts)

    This guy sounds like a typical used car salesman. The saxophone is a WIND instrument, not percussion. The sound is generated by the air column set in motion by the reed. Adding a doodad on the outside of the sax does nothing, nada, zilch to the air column inside the sax. The vibration of the brass is nothing compared to what happens to the air inside.
