I mentioned in another response that I had seen Francois in recital in Los Angeles Wilshire-Ebell, a smaller auditorium than the newer halls. He played Prokofiev 7th, fairly new piece as this was in the1950s. Just his individuality, presence & charisma was an experience I vividly remember. The greats back then seemed to have their own musical personality & find nuance for the audience.
his so called 'pointilist' technique is so forthright and clean... and his reservoirs of power, always inside the music, never fails to satisfy. What an artist he was!
La deuxième étude est magnifique, toute en sobriété…respect complet des triolets « bafoués « chez d’autres musiciens où le solfège écrit ne semble être que pour les étudiants .
interesting recording , in second etude he respects the text with the triolets no 1, 2 and 12 are quite slowly. why? the winterwind etude is very impressive , the octave etude also. there are some notes who are not written like that in the urtext in a few etudes. wonder which edition he took.... a very important french pianist....

his sense of phrasing in the B-section of number 5 is so refreshingly relaxed, free and warm. an absolute genius of a musician!

Great stuff Philip :-))) Thank you! ~Jackie
Le génie about ne rêve pas, ou plus
Wonderfull! This is really inspired piano playing. Old masters are great indeed!
One of my favorite pianists =), His interpretation of the etude No. 5 make me feel in love with him.. ❤
I can understand that I really feel the same so strange

Génie absolu
Uno dei più grandi
Beautiful interpretation of these magnificent works! What an unique artist!

Esattamente. Commento più che esplicito . Vale per tutta la musica pianistica . Troppi virtuosi da stadio
A very great artist !
Only pianist I know who plays correctly the triplets on no 2.
Amazing recording.
le plus grand un genie....
Magnificent interpretation of these and the Op.10 études!
Tellement beau, expressif.
He's fabulous!!
Fabulous! ❤
Bravo!
Beautiful
He plays Chopin in a manner that would estrange or at least puzzle the compositor himself back in the XIX century I guess.
@uhartchristian glad you liked him!

Number 12 isn't slow, I've heard slower, and a bit faster. A lot depends on the type of paino, and the acoustics.
このテンペラメントのかがやき!!
・・・メカニックと評される某ピアニストには感じられない。
Love his playing. But i have this experience that a lot dont like him. Dont know why.
DIEU!
in the second etude he does not respect as many other pianiststhe text. the rythm in the right hand should be three and not two.
