    There's just something special about watching ANVILS being made. And knowing Civilization pretty much was created either directly or indirectly on one... Every Nations flag should have an ANVIL on it...

    I think we would all enjoy some videos of you working on those production runs. Maybe some live streams, or videos that require less editing so you can focus on the forging. Not all of your videos need to be the same format as these.

    AFAIK (mostly from watching Joey Van derSteeg's excellent anvil fabrication series), anvils of non-trivial size were/are nearly always made by either casting, or by forge welding via buildup (standard welding probably incurs too much stress). The direct forging method (e.g. squish/draw a single mass into shape), only seems practical (to my admittedly NON-experienced eye) for something like a jeweler's anvil, or slightly larger.
    Anyway, I look forward to following along ... seems like a fun and educational experimemt. +1 👍

    Great to see how things have been taking off for you John, always enjoy seeing what beautiful pieces you create. Perhaps you should give some thought to hiring production assistance for your UA-cam content, may make things easier as you continue to grow your business.

    Sorry it took to cracking.
    If you had to venture a guess...what caused the cracking sirSir?
    Could you forgeweld a toolsteel face to it to alleviate the stresses as Joey does?
    Great video sirSir and nice anvil.
    🙏blessed days now and well wishes
    Crawford out 🧙‍♂️

      There might have been micro cracking under the surface that began to spread under heavy use.

    • @danielcrawford7315
      @danielcrawford7315 3 роки тому

      @@OldHickoryForge yes sirSir.
      So can one bring it back up to forge welding temps and get the cracks to seal or is that too much hassle and not guaranteed to work...or could you forge weld a 1/2" or 3/8" face to it?
      Eh I guess that would change the weight though.
      Idk I just heard Joey van der Steeg talking about how a face plate will help hold cracks together and reinforce forgewelds

    It's good that your work is in demand n your keeping busy. Too bad about the crackin on the face. To go through all that work and have that happen in the end result really sucks. Great day for weight

    If your integrity won't allow you to send it out (imperfect) as a gift, put it up for auction for charity. Everyone knows what they're getting when they bid for it. You might be surprised. Hate to see so much fine work, go to waste.
