The Pool of Siloam, where Jesus is said to have healed a blind man, will soon be opened to the public for the first time after approximately two thousand years.
The pool, located in the southern part of the City of David archaeological site in Jerusalem, is cherished by Christians and Jews.
It is currently being excavated by archaeologists and will either be opened to the public piece by piece or once the entire site is unearthed.
Plans to open up the Pool of Siloam were announced just before the new year by the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority and the City of David Foundation.
The site was built around 2,700 years ago as part of Jerusalem’s water system in the eighth century B.C. It served as a reservoir for the Gihon Spring from which water was diverted and stored in underground tunnels.
The reference about Jesus and the pool is mentioned in the New Testament’s John 9. It reads: “He told him, ‘Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam.’ So the man went and washed, and came back seeing.”
Traditionally, the Christian site of the Pool of Siloam was the pool and church that were built by the Byzantine empress Eudocia (c. 400-460 A.D.) to commemorate the miracle recounted in the New Testament. However, the exact location of the original pool as it existed during the time of Jesus remained a mystery until June 2004.
During construction work to repair a large water pipe south of Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, at the southern end of the ridge known as the City of David, archaeologists Ronny Reich and Eli Shukron identified two ancient stone steps. Further excavation revealed that they were part of a monumental pool from the Second Temple period, the period during which Jesus lived.
The structure Reich and Shukron discovered was 225 feet long, with corners that are slightly greater than ninety degrees, indicating a trapezoidal shape, with the widening end oriented toward Tyropoeon Valley.
What was the function of the Pool of Siloam during Jesus’ time?
Because the pool is fed by waters from the Gihon Spring, located in the Kidron Valley, the naturally flowing spring water would have qualified the pool for use as a mikveh, a bath used for the purpose of ritual immersion in Judaism to achieve ritual purity.
However, it could also have been an important source of fresh water for the inhabitants in that part of the city. One scholar has even suggested that it was a Roman-style swimming pool.
Whatever its original purpose, the Siloam Pool, where Jesus healed the blind man, is an important Christian site, and its discovery represents a watershed moment in the field of Biblical archaeology.

@@ilanakatz3306 Yes it does, the Messiah would come before the destruction of the 2nd Temple. And guess what that's the Lord Jesus Christ, He came before the 2nd temple was destroyed. And in the future there will be a 3rd temple built, just as the Bible more specifically the New Testament says.

Great update for this major discovery! It still amazes me that, in so many parts of the world, sites of huge cultural and religious importance to the people of the area are inexplicably forgotten about and covered up by later activity. 9:28 Someone needs to get ahold of person in charge of the location and tell them to replace the glass they have with better glass or plastic windows to see thru better. Because i think they just used what was more durable. But now they should see that its not that clear for the tourists to see. So someone needs to push them to use better options. Im no window or glass or plastic expert, but i know they have to have a better option then what they using there. Maybe it costs more, but it will be worth it in the long run. Imagine perfectly clear glass or plastic. Maybe its clearer in real life. But from what i see, it seems like its fogged up or scratched and not clear. So yes, i hope someone can get a hold of someone in charge there to let them know to make the place better. I bet if i did some research im sure they can find something better that does not scratch or fog up and stays clear. Or maybe not, but this is what im thinking. Great amazing video as usual, we all love to see them. 🙏🏼
PS: Maybe they can hand a broom brush of some sort tide to the wall by rope so people can use to brush the dust away to see down better also, because people walking will bring dust on top of the glass. So yeah , i had to mention this also.

Question, why would the purification pool be so far away from the temple? What happened if you became impure before you made it to the temple mount, did you have to go back and repurify yourself? The location of the Pool Of Silom is one of the FEW reasonable arguments for the Temple being in the city of David.

    • @zahishaked
      @zahishaked  11 місяців тому +1

Next to the temple there are dozens of mikvahs, but they are small. This pool is the result of Jerusalem's only water source. This is taking advantage of the place where many can purify their bodies. It is also the source of the water in which the kings of Israel were consecrated.

I f8nd this to be very interesting. But I'm curious, if they plan on rebuilding the temple, what will happen to these artifacts? They will be covered up because of the increase in size of the new temple. I know that the original grounds will be basically the same size but the walls will overtake alot more land. I heard talk about it will be much smaller than what Ezekiel spoke about. But than it won't be built to the profits dimension. So I believe it will be built to the exact same size as what Ezekiel spoke about.

8:11 That the steps of the stairs are wide and short could be related to the law of physics about Work, W=F×s×cos(a). When you make the stairs wide, you don't have to go against the gravity all the time, which makes it easier to walk these stairs. Especially maybe for the elderly so they do not end up at the top of the stairs gasping for their breath. It is also one of God's commands that you should not do any Work (W) on the Shabbat. So maybe that could have something to do with it as well. Making the steps alternatingly wide and short makes the path also less steep but longer. In addition, according to this law of physics, walking orthogonal to the Force (F), which is gravity, makes you according to this law of physics not to do any work (W) because cos(90 degrees) = zero. So there you go.
P.S, in addition if someone would loose his or her balance and fall on these stairs the wide step would probably break his or her fall, opposite to stairs with small steps where the fall may continue all the way down, and when many people walk these stairs at the same time, what would happen to the others when one would fall down? So there you go again, stairs like these have many advantages, and are safer as well.
P.P.S, So, I have been thinking about this some more, and there is yet an other explanation for this. When you do not want to make the slope too steep, you need to cover a longer distance to reach the same height. If you now divide this height by the height of one stair step, you will know how many steps you need. And this number is constant and independent of the slope, because you need to climb the same height. But when you make the slope less steep, you need to divide the same amount of steps over a longer distance. As a consequence of this, the steps will be further apart the more you make the slope less steep. And so, when the steps need to be further apart, you already get this pattern all by itself. That's it, and kind regads from Nehemiah who rebuilt Jerusalem with the help of his friends, and from king Salomon who built God's temple with the help of his friends.

Too bad the rest of the pool isn't there. Do they know what happened to it? Dug up and destroyed sometime in the past I assume.

The sulaiman temple must be beside or near the pool.

Is this where the angel would stir the water and someone could be healed? If it is filled with water again, would the angel come back?

Had a hard time understanding your accent is very thick, even with CC generator it still misses your words. Try speaking slower in your vids next time, I know English isn't your first language so it's ok, but maybe you could subtitle it instead yourself.
