Margaret Hamilton is a inspiration to all the women across the world that to be pioneer in any field you need a strong confidence on yourself. She was in the field of software engineering when even most of the people haven't had heard about the term. Great women....
This is the best programming instruction I have ever heard. Some people are able to achieve and also teach. Margaret Hamilton is one of these rare people.
If you have very good mathematics and logic skills, then you should be able to learn how to manipulate any programming language to do whatever you want it to do. I know I can do it.
In the old days, I designed a search routine that was as fast as anything that is out now. I used the idea of Diophantine's Continued Fractions. Oh God! I've tried many times to explain how that works to other programmers, but every time I do, they never get it. It is a very fast procedure. I did that back in the 80's. Try organizing and sorting millions of records with a 64k IBM COMPUTER that runs off of GWBASIC Software. lol. That's what I was using. My program did it. They made a lot of money off of my work. Never again will I get cheated like that!
Do you know what puzzles me? Einstein's second postulate states that the speed of light is the same in all inertial reference frames, but it's a fact that light does travel slower in different mediums. For example, the index of refraction for light in water is about 1.33 which means that light is 1.33 times faster in a vacuum than it is in water. Oh well. Sorry.
"There needs to be a shift in thinking about software. We as a race need to give software parallel status with infrastructure. We are becoming so reliant on software as a species that it is infrastructure. We should put her in charge as Secretary of Software Engineering. At least, teaching her philosophies should be mandatory for degrees."
at the 14:00 mark re: about the possibilty of a major 'oops' and how it couldn't happen- " His crewmates are not going to let Jim forget about his keystroke error a few hours ago, then he inadvertently selected P01 instead of star 01". - from the Apollo 8 Flight Journal. that was Jim Lovell that entered the launch code- they were on the way BACK from the moon
I generally despise the term "software engineering", because it gets used to dignify people dicking around with web sites. If you're a real engineer, a mistake on your part can kill someone or cause major property damage. Margaret Hamilton definitely qualifies as an engineer.
This was a really good keynote talk. We need to remember the lessons errors teach us, and teach fellow practitioners and students the history of software engineering so that we can build a more complete body of knowledge of software engineering. I have experienced interface errors in my career as a software engineer and a team lead.
My coding career followed her fault-tolerance model, where every case of input was handled gracefully. If there is one top fault of modern software, it's that this principle is hardly considered. Thus, most all of it is infested with bugs and crash traps. There needs to be a shift in thinking about software. We as a race need to give software parallel status with infrastructure. We are becoming so reliant on software as a species that it is infrastructure. We should put her in charge as Secretary of Software Engineering. At least, teaching her philosophies should be mandatory for degrees. I understand, these are radical concepts.
No esta vacía pero que lastima que un partido de fútbol o una lucha de boxeo tenga esos números y esto que realmente aporta no llegue a una parte pequeña, pero bueno.
I agree, but we must keep in mind that she came from a generation where women did earn less. To back this up, an example: 5 years ago we offered an experienced female developer a position. It was at the top range of salaries for our part of the US. She ended up turning us down. Fair enough. There is no wage gap. Another myth: Lack of female equality in software development. My team (9) has 2 females. I have never experienced more than 3 females at once on our team in 20 years. This was never on purpose. There simply hasn’t been more females apply for positions. I have never seen a bias towards males. Most females I have known aren’t attracted to sit in a cube 40 hours/week. This is best video I’ve seen with Hamilton talk about her knowledge and experience - thanks!
I have the propensity to do this, and I have the propensity to do that? Is that really the purpose of technology? To victimize unsuspecting people? I had the propensity to do a lot of things, but I'm a very compassionate and loving human being. I'd never harm anyone Margaret.

wow it is so nice to see margaret for the first time in my life.

What an amazing person. Thx for that great travel back into history of modern computing.
Very frustrating, when you are sure something bad will most probably happen and you cant convince the deciders to follow you.
We finally get to see Margaret at 4:08
Beautiful video. Learned so much from her.
why so few people? Give me a ticket to attend. Love you, Margaret.
Thanks Margaret.
I missed this presentation, I would love to be there. My hero!
there she is
The Legend.
It's one small step for man, but a COLOSSUS step for mankind ; - )
Could you be so kind to open the "add subtitles" options so we can add them in spanish? Thanks
Great idea! Its Done!
Margaret. I wish you the best. I lost mom last year, and it hurts like hell.
WHY haven't all the people who create any of the software that I've ever had to use been trained with these concepts?

Countess Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, Margaret Hamilton, three female computer professionals I admire!
Thank you, Ms. Hamilton! Did you program in BASIC?

Nenad are you Croatian or Serbian? Anyway it’s nice to see someone from my territory.
You are an idol for my and little daughters You deserve a noble
Yes she does!!!!!
Wow!
This kinda people should be respected more by the media rather than those sticky super models.
If it was a male they would have put his face everywhere
Nice 👍❤
Sounds like little Lauren was the unsung hero of the Apollo program.
Take a shot of vodka every time she says “error” or “errors”

As a "software engineer" dicking around with websites, I agree entirely.

Really good question…
THE 4th astronaut!!!
LOL! The Astronauts only walked on the moon.
Still beautiful

Jajajja fijate bien no esta vacia
No esta vacía pero que lastima que un partido de fútbol o una lucha de boxeo tenga esos números y esto que realmente aporta no llegue a una parte pequeña, pero bueno.
47:20 wage gap is a myth, she hasn’t even looked at the data. What an embarassing late-stage to what was initially a decent career.
I agree, but we must keep in mind that she came from a generation where women did earn less.

Hire Augie Coogle. He can fix anything.

I wish i was as smart as her she such inspiring woman
Amazing woman
I didnt understand a single thing
