I would have cooked the cherries down a bit with sugar, water, lemon juice, and corn starch to make it glossy. First you do a rough chop of the cherries and then add in some halved cherries towards the end and it's perfect. That way you have big chunks mixed in. I do it with blackberries, blueberries, cherries, and other fruits too. It's so easy and yummy!
