      There's an episode from Doctor Who where the Eleventh Doctor brings Van Gogh to the present. The curator, while not knowing Van Gogh was there, explained how a terrific artist he is, and Van Gogh (along with the viewers including me) cried.
      I like to think this actually happened and even before he died, he knew how much he would be loved and celebrated.

      Its not that dissimilar to some others like the person who was the person who created the programming language that is the C Programming language, those who came later, Jobs, Gates etc stood on the shoulders of him. He could have made a fortune out of the language but he released it for free, was really just developed for developing the UNIX OS entirely, but then expanding upon it much later with what other developers have done. He actually died did Dennis a little earlier than Jobs sadly and yet no one knows about him.

      The Starts Night painting is my favorite too. I kinda didn't get the hype on it in the beginning when I first saw it as a kid, but NOW after going through some problems that painting has a deeper meaning to me. The painting is so calming and dreamy, it calms me down and it definitely has a sense of sadness to it. I think maybe that's why he didn't like it, bc he painted it on the sense of how he was seeing the world. Which is why there's a lot of spiral circles and squiggles. To him everything was an optical illusion at that time in asylum

    • @whotelakecity2001

      There is a theory that he painted that painting while in the deepest throes of madness (he painted it in the mental asylum) and that the painting is his altered view of reality.

      The thing is, when I was really young I found myself to have deep passion for arts. I always draw or paint as it's like a part of me.
      But the bad thing is that im also pretty mentally fucked up and had contemplated suicide. At school I was getting a "special care" from the counselors because they're afraid I might harm myself again.

    As a fan of Van Gogh for many years I find this video rather annoying. Sien the love of this life and an affair with Gauguin: I don't t think so. Is it important to know what some paintings sold for and where they range in the list of most expensive ones? By sensationalizing him you do not justice to him. If people want to know more about him, take some time and read his letters.

    • @midnightchannel7759

    • @SeventhEraProduction
      @SeventhEraProduction 6 років тому +34

      Thanks for putting this piece of trash into perspective, I was more than annoyed, as an artist who spent time studying Vincent and his style, it was an insult to hear these twisted stories and speculations.

    • @Dr_Bombay
      @Dr_Bombay 6 років тому +9

      if you'd read his letters, you would understand why calling Sien the love of his life is probably not out of bounds. He cared for her in a way that he rarely expressed for anyone else in his life. As for the "affair" with Gauguin, well, that's just pure speculation, as is the recent (pretty implausible) theory that he was "murdered."

    • @midnightchannel7759
      @midnightchannel7759 6 років тому +16

      Well, in his letters he writes that they were not in love, that he saw her as a 'help-meet', and she him as a provider. There was never romantic love there. The girl in London could be put in the "love" column, and he had a couple of youthful infatuations, but I don't think he ever found a woman he cared enough about to call a "love of his life". I think he thought he had time...

    • @Dr_Bombay
      @Dr_Bombay 6 років тому +11

      it's true he never called it "love," but he writes of her and her son very warmly, and it's clear he cared for them both very much. it's as close as he came to love and his dream for a family life in his whole life.

    Akira Kurosawa created a film called Dreams which had six sketches in it. The one about Van Gogh impressed me the most. It was Akira Kurosawa walking through a museum and then daydreaming about walking into a van Gogh painting and it was done only in the way he could have done it. I am surprised you didn't mention this as one of the film tributes.

It was a daily task for them but Vincent enjoyed it. Just putting this out there because he did indeed do art as a child

    Loving Impressionism and Van Gogh, I asked a local artist to try to replicate Starry Night in her style. She did a wonderful job and we have it hung in our great room, under a display light. When my wife and I ventured to Auvers-sur-Oise Oct, 2014, to pay homage to Vincent's and Theo's graves, we walked through the fields Vincent immortalized. Unforgettable experience.

    Thank you for sharing the life and legacy of Van Gogh.
    I know what depression feels like. I’m just glad to hear that he is the happiest when he’s creating art. 😃
    He has a deep sadness in his eyes. 😢 I feel his pain, sadness and happiness when he’s creating art.
    We watched the recent Lasting Impressions here in Montreal and they featured all the art masters during the Impressionistic Era.
    I cried when they started showing Van Gogh’s paintings. He was tortured because of his unhealed trauma, his mom dismissed his primal need to be connected to his family.
    I feel sorry for he suffered so much. It must be hard.
    Thank goodness for his brotherTheo who supported him during his short life.
    We can see how his depression affected him due to a lack of support from his family and society.
    Thank you Van Gogh for inspiring us all through your life and art. ❤

    I really love Van Gogh's Starry Night 💙💚💛💜💓 It has been my fave old artwork since then that's why I made it as my FB cover photo. On the other note, I also set it as my desktop wallpaper until my boss noticed it and asked me, "Isn't that Van Gogh's art? Why did you set it as your background? He's crazy that's why he cut his ears right?" I wasn't even able to defend myself and it's sad that they regard Vincent as a crazy artist in a negative sense. I really wanted to tell my boss that time that there's more to the artist himself that made him notable and outstanding among the old artists. But then, nothing has changed to me, Vincent is still my favorite artist. I just hope I can defend the artist the nextime someone's going to belittle him. 😊

    In high school the art club went to see a Van Gogh. A day off school sure I went. And it changed my thoughts about art. I was mesmerized. The paint on many of the pieces was so thick it looked like you’d get paint on your finger if you touched the painting. And of course Starry Night just took my breath away. A day that even at age 72 I have never forgotten how lucky I was to go on that trip.

Many of the men that came to the brothel laughed at her and he wanted to show her that he felt her pain and tried to draw the attention of the men to himself. :)
