Wow I love these. I am thinking of making them as a sort of heirloom for my future great grandchildren.

Thank you very much, Cheryl. I was waiting for this tutorial to finish up the different letters that already came out. Very clear and helpful.

Question: Is there any way to make the fourth side of stitching as thick as this lovely thicker stitching line only running around three sides of the box? Would you ever do the attachment seems on the top side of the box, for effect?

A very good question! You could try backstitching the lines with 2 strands, that might look thicker. Or you could stitch each of the 4 small panels and 4 border pieces on a separate piece of fabric, and backstitch each of them (don't forget to leave a bit extra for the seam allowance). Then attach the 4 back pieces together with a whip stitch, and then stitch the front and back together with the border pieces in between. It would be a bit more stitching, but would get the nice thick border effect!
