I took an of 17 mm socket and put it up against the brass looking fitting and marked it, grinder, cut off wheel to cut a slot out if the socket to fit over the fitting. Worked great. Made the job simple, and I'm not a mechanic, nor do I have any wife beater T shirts or aviator glasses. You can do it too Edit: I didn't use thread locker, I used thread tape, only around the fitting that the threads contacted the oil tank. Changed oil 04-19-2021, today is 04-23-2021, four days and the 0-W40 hasn't seeped through and leaked anywhere. Great, informative video though! Lots more information on the sportsman oil change/screen etc available nowadays
Hey great video , I have the exact same bike and I don't bother taking the oil screen out ,just the 2 drain plugs and filter good to go .I used the Polaris 5w 50 cause I'm from up north in Canada .
This explains why I only got a quart and a half out of mine when I drained it. Didn't know it had two drain plugs. They're both getting filled from the same spot correct? Thanks for the video very informative. I will be running amsoil as well but 5w-50 since I live in northern Minnesota.
So in other words don't take the screen filter out, I am not taking mine out sounds like a pain. I didn't know about that second oil plug so I am checking that out. Thanks.
Question for ya. I have an identical bike in a 2012 with the same oil tank on it. You had mentioned in the video you have to prime that oil line from the tank. My question what is the easiest way to prime that line so the crankcase gets oil? On the next change I likely wont take it apart I will just drain the crankcase and the tank and then refill them. I'd like to change my oil myself as it can be very costly at the dealership. I also just bought the bike a few months ago. It is due for a change and I will likely take that screen out as I have no idea if or when its ever been cleaned. Thanks in advance

Question I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the oil change but, my sportsman has developed a thing to were if you let off the throttle it kills itself do you know what that might be?

Been using walmart 0.20 oil for 10 years
