- Great Scott! If our calculations are correct, the flux capacitor has taken our beloved BC Road Trip Time Machine back to Highway 97 - between Cache Creek and Prince George - as it was during the spring of 1966! Ah - Cariboo Country! Much of the highway between Cache Creek and Quesnel roughly follows the route of the original Cariboo Wagon Road and because it’s a long and windy road, we’ve split the trip into two videos - one from Cache Creek to Williams Lake and the other from Williams Lake to Prince George. So - pull up a chair and settle in for a trip down memory lane.
Blast from the past for me. My family drove that road that very year, most memorably to visit Barkerville and pan for gold. Maybe our greatest family vacation.
The road from Clinton to 100 Mile has changed quite a bit. It's straightened out with all those those curves removed and 4 lanes now for a lot of it and it bisects the old road. The old alignment still exists and is driveable but it's broken up into individual sections. It's accessible from the new highway.
Amazing how similar the road is today, especially between Cache Creek and Clinton, except for a few passing lanes, its the same road (with much less traffic)
I don't think the video is readily available. I had to ask someone at the Ministry to send me the link.
Now that I have it, I love identifying the roadhouses and old ranches along the old Cariboo Wagon Road. My favourite scene, however, is the drive through 150 Mile House. How wonderful to see remnants of the old town before most of the structures were moved or destroyed.
Cheers,
Loyd

@@MinistryofTranBC I wonder what constitutes a spam comment? You think that's legit? Why, for such a new video with so little viewership? Extraordinary!
