It took like 15 seconds for the UFC to realize they should've added rules
To be fair they did have rules, "No biting and no eye gouging". That was it
@@thesmithersy So kicking in the nuts was ok?
@@thesmithersy They should go back to Pride rules. Completely legal kick in Pride.
@@thesmithersy i thought no fish hooking or small joint manipulation was in there too
that was common sense @@commiesnzombies
20 sec before UFC 1 starts: THERE'S NO RULES!
20 sec after UFC 1 starts: We may need to require mouthguards.
🤣
And gloves
And no kicking a down oponent
That would a terrible rule to disallow kicking when the opponent is down.
@@Dziaji ever seen Yan vs Sterlin 1? Yan got disqualified for using an illegal knee while the opponent was down. It’s very much a real rule.
All praise to that ref. Everyone was against him in stopping that fight, including his employers, the crowd and the fighters, but he did so because it was clearly the right thing to do.
The ref didn't stop the fight. He paused it in the middle of the action.
If had actually stopped the fight I would be fine, but he didn't.
He paused the action, giving the sumo a chance to recover. Then the doctor stopped the fight.
In hindsight, it looks like the ref was right because the fight was stopped eventually without restarting the action. But there is a reason Gerard was confused when the ref put a TIME OUT sign up. Time out means that you are going to time back in at some point, and the time out occurred right when Gerard was about to win the fight.
I prefer Mortal Kombat rules.
You like shlong huh
Good point....
My Dad and I always watched boxing together, ever since I was a kid. We got UFC 1, and we were sitting there eating subs, and when this fight started and the big guy got kicked in the face, we both looked at each other with wide-eyed shock. Like "we're not in Kansas anymore." It was a great show.
Great memory you shared! Father son bonding time is a beautiful thing!
Lol thats awesome
awesome memory lol
Thanks for sharing ✌️❤️
How were the subs.
I knew it was worth not paying for the fight but waiting until its free
Hahaha just a sort 30 years
🤣🤣🤣
lmaoooo
That's pretty funny lol
Well it works out if you're still here
This is probably the most realistic fight you will ever see in the UFC. One shot to the face and it is over for the 99% of us.

@@HonkeyKong54 aight then lemme see you get kicked straight in the face by a kickboxer🤡
@@HonkeyKong54 you can take a high speed kick to the face? Let's see it.

Gerard landed a couple precision powerful strikes.
The fact the sumo guy wasn't out cold for the next 20 minutes but actually got up, ready to go...that's toughness.
white guy humbled him less than 20 sec. Sad
I felt bad for him. It looked like he was crying after getting field goal kick across the dome.

Drops the 1933 salute 4 times in a row
surprised they didn't edit that bit out. he's got a bunch of tattoos from the same era too lol. turns out he's actually a dick too when you see what he did to that guys eyes in Pride
His name is "Gerard Gordeau" and believe it or not, he was actually the most well known fighter among the invites
Hilarious
That's actually the Roman legionnaire salute the Nazis copied it at Hitlers insinstatce
My cousin pointed that out when we watched it on cable back then.
“No Rules, no judges scores, and no time limits.”
After that first fight they probably had to add those rules lol.
Dana did a lot of that. It was barbaric with no weight limits or rules before him. He wanted to clean it up for mainstream TV
@@dlt9784 Underground was better. We were trading VHS tapes lmao There were different styles fighting each other then, Royce Gracie fucked it all up with his hour grappling matches and always wanting to go to the ground and everyone started grappling.
"those rules" this kind of fight was never "normal". But only because of the weight class interaction. And the heavier weight class lost. The actual fight played out like perfectly normal just without gloves, even though it was a kick that did him in. White dude was just on another plane of existence with his speed
@@Eusantdac I used to think that. Rewatched them recently with an old friend & it really wasn't better imo. Times might have been & had some better characters but not the fights. Hair pulling. Low blows (sometimes over and over and over and over in the same fight lol). People dropping out & having someone fresh come fight them for the title. & It started to change at a point where sumo, boxer, kickboxer v doesn't matter - whoever is better at Brazilian judo wins 99% of the time.
I'm glad we had it, and it was fun as hell getting new tapes. Friend had a brother who trained with a semi pro in the area at the time & they'd get all kinds of stuff. Dude fought the chief Andre (think that was his name) Roberts of all people lol. Didn't win but didn't do bad either. Unlocked memory.
Did the same with rewatching pride. THAT had better fights & stands the test of time I think.
Tank Abbott is the reason why they have gloves and first few rules
Can you imagine the ufc today without rules, weight classes, or time limits? People would die
Literally
They'd fine.
People did die. That's why they made rules.
yeaaaahhhhhhhh i sure can.... *looks around innocently*
Back to the Roman empire times
"No rules"
*Later that night*
"Maybe we need rules.
This was total chaos. Bare-knuckle, virtually no rules, snuff fighting. They would pit wrestlers against BJJ experts, karate against shoot-fighting. It was nuts. My buddies and I used to rent these old videos for pure morbid curiosity. And this isn't even the worst KO we saw. For that one, check out Paul Herrera vs. Gary Goodridge. I remember watching this with my dad when I was a kid. All we had was WWF/WCW type stuff. Dad said (skeptically) “I’ll tell you if this is real or not.” After that kick to the face my dad stated as-a-matter -of-factly “Yeah, it’s real.”
Pro wrestling and Boxing. Martial art was very hard to broadcast.
😂
Oh man that made me laugh..
That’s Awesome. Dad always know bullspit when he sees it. But you could tell UFC was real from the first kick.

Within 20 seconds two things became apparent😆:

@@daveyjoseph6058 when you were in 8th grade I don’t think you would be 6’5 and 210lbs or 6’2 and 400lbs+😂
I just love how they’re holding and touching his head, like, “Your poor head...”
UFC has definitely come a long way
omg that soccer kick to the face when hes down then they call "timeout" lmaoo this is incredible
Did you notice the NAZI salute as he entered the cage?
@@ryannath85 dude yea wtf was that all about
That kick was on nose, but not the punch before he fall, upercut under the eye.
@@ryannath85 Hahahah, wtf. How did they even allow it?
@@purritto3779 It was the first UFC and in 1993 I don't think the background check was very thorough.
Good to see Daniel cormier has been around that long
🤣🤣🤣🤣
NO WAYYYY AHHHAHHA

Word, back when DC had that Africa colors hat in college... and didja see?? Joe Rogan has hair!!
🤔 ...I bet DC was pretty good at football back then huh
I wish it was still like this.
I got this on vhs tape from the video shop when I was 12, I'm 42 next wk
He came in punching like a kid saying "I'm just going to do this motion with my arms while I run in this direction, and if you get in my way, that's not my fault."
Simpsons 😏?
Now homer... don't u eat this pie!!!!
"Kathy, did you catch that tooth?"
"No, I think it's under the table here..."
Amazing.
They weren’t kidding about having no rules. Dude came out and started blasting Hitler salutes in every direction 😂😂😂
I was hoping this guy would win it all . He was bad ass !
If Teila Tuli looks familiar, it's because he is an actor on the show, Hawaii Five-0. He now uses the name Taylor Wily. He has definitely put on some serious weight since his UFC days. I imagine this fight incentivized him to seek a career in hollywood, where he wouldn't have to be kicked in the face. Kudos to Mr. Tuli on his successful career transition.
He’s also in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Hilarious character in that movie!
@@CersFan21 ohhhhh damn i was wondering why he looked so familiar!
Famous for getting destroyed by a skinny white guy... 💪
@@CersFan21oh dude now it makes sense! I love that movie haha
Bro... This is crazy
“The strongest part of my body is my heart” definitely.
Apparently it's not his face
Figured it was his ankles
I like how polite they are at the start, no stupid childish trash talk. And it's not plastered in ugly ads everywhere
I watched all the original UFC events. They were the best.
the legend Jim Brown saying "awesome, the tooth came out"...pure gold.
I loved watching fights without weight classes. And wildly different fighting styles. Used to have that whole tournament on DVD back in the day.
And then it all began! Thank you!
They should do this more often. Sumo v Karate, Kendo Vs Boxer.
