- "And Then There Was Silence" tells the story of Cassandra's visions of the coming Trojan War. Apollo gave her the gift of prophecy, but later he cursed her so that no one would ever believe her predictions. So she had to watch helpless while the Greeks conquered Troy and destroyed it.
The song was inspired by Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and Virgil's Aeneid.
This video is taken from the DVD "Imaginations Through the Looking Glass", which was recorded in Coburg 2003 and released in 2004.

"And Then There Was Silence" erzählt die Geschichte von Kassandras Visionen über den kommenden Trojanischen Krieg.

4 Deslikes? BAD CHOICE, BAD CHOICE...
lol
The "nananana" part is one of the most epic things in metal ever :) ( 10:15 )
It has been my favorite part since I bought the DVD in 03-04 haha! :D
Each time I see or hear it I get goosebumps
That legit sent chills crawling down my spine... There is no doubt about it... Most epic EVER.
the whole song is one of the most epic things in music history.
Great performance of that mother of all "songs that won't ever work live". I saw them do this in Montréal years ago and I gotta say, youtube just can't capture it.
In a world of music made by advertisers, watered down pop rebellion and over saturated gimmicky indie markets, this stands as a reminder that somewhere out there, music still matters to some people. That it's still artistic, genuine and appreciated for being what it is. This reminds ME why I love music so much and why I built a life on it.
amen
Replying to this in 2018. Music still matters.
2019, can confirm still true
Still true 2020
This is my favorite song, and in a world of shallow, cheap thrills, it's so refreshing seeing people celebrate powerful, thoughtful music.
another thing i really dig about this is Hansi's so fun to watch. he's not just up there being a rockstar, he's telling a story. you can see it in his face and everything.
The Battle of Troy was based on this song.
I could listen to this song forever and never get bored of it
Best fucking song in the history of metal hands down.
+Sonath Valen its hard between this and The odessey !
yep even after years of listening this song is so unique
This song and Stratovarius' Elysium are my all time favorite songs.
And this, kids, is why Metal is the best genre ever.
its a rather boring example too
just how? It puts the Iliad and Aeneid into one song! What other song does that?@@krnlsndrs0735
Like a leaf in an icy world, memories will fade...
the most fucking impossiblest part in the history of the fucking impossible epicness of BLIND GUARDIAN is how the fuck is it possible to play these FUCKING songs so fucking AWESOME live.
I love the combination of lyrics, sound and the lights on the stage. Awesome combination, they are so good together that I'm almost breathless.
4 years later and the feeling is just the same. AWESOME!
zwippie92 saw them live in 2011 and im still speechless
One of the most epic song ever written
EPICO!! Imaginations Through the Looking Glass melhor DvD do Planeta !
It's almost 2019 and this still gives me chills

This, Lost Horizon's Highlander and Cry of a restless soul, Symphony X's odessey,Stratovarius's Elysium are the pinnacle of metal Music

i fucking love the "lalala" part :))
02:06 "Hear my voice..."
As you wish, Lord Hansi
One of the best songs ever written...
just listen this epic song again and again!
Blind Guardian are one of a very small handfull of bands who manage to craft a live performance that truely and completely engulfs those experiencing it. I mean, how many other bands get crowd reactions like they do? And to even attempt a song as massive as this LIVE, and to do it successfully, is a feat few other bands would match. They played in South Africa in 2008 (AGAIN something few metal bands can say!!!) and performed this song...it was truely an incredible experience.
Wow. The album version is amazing. The live version is amazing.
10:30 everybody who was there will remember that for the rest of his life. It was pure magic.
There definitely IS a reason why this video doesn't have any dislikes
I have a tattoo with the art for this song. Both geeky and metal, just like Blind Guardian. lml
X-Thor that's pretty cool, I have a tattoo with the artwork of this song, the 2 dragons
I wish that they didnt skip last part :(
The Flame of Troy will shine bright ......
Einfach nur geil. Punkt.
The Best Song Ever!!!
Thomen! We miss you!
My favorite song !
Amo ❤🤟esta música❤🤟
LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA !!!! :D
+Bigcubefan there's one LA less :D
No, there's not. I double checked just now again. :D
+Bigcubefan I counted 10 haha
jinquin
It depends on how you sing it exactly. For me there's 11.
Bigcubefan hmm I just remembered there might be a silenter LA at the end that might be it
Masterpiece!
Obra-Prima!
I like his clear voice more he had at that time than his rough voice now. Nowadays he doesn't sing that high live than 2003 for example. That's a pity... :-(
in certain moments he does, but he said that using those high notes so often was dangerous for him. So now he uses them only in especific moments of the shows. Instead, he more often uses a combation of his raspy and powerful voice , falsetto and his soft folk voice.
isso é uma obra de arte
Continua sendo!
This is truly amazing! You can just cry listening to it, especially in the end.
Were it the Blind Guardian singing this to warn Troy, and not Cassandra, everyone would have listened!
This song is bone chillingly great.
it took me for a journey !! just amazing
I would gladly sell my soul to be at this concert.
best song ever
Band is so epic!
How can He no crying at the stage,This sepass The Epicness...
Fantastic!
The best in my opinion.
Hansi with such a new lad's voice! =)
Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Toda una obra de arte.
La canzone più bella di tutti i tempi.
Just heard ATTWS 2011, it is fawkin awesome !!
He actually did a live of it? Doesnt has the double tracking of studio but still, awesome. Too bad he missed last lyric: "The crack of doom, Father; Your handsome son is heading hooome!!!"
Grester your comment is 9 years old it would be funny if you saw this but i showed a friend this song and she said „what about the ugly son though“ hahaha 😂
I have rarely seen an audience so unable to clap to the rythm
@szekelymihai
It is track 15 on the Imaginations Through the Looking Glass DVD. Between "Another Holy War" and "Somewhere Far Beyond".
Long song, but perfect from the start to the end!
Flawless song
"lalalalalalalalala" songs need more lalalalalalala
The ad in the middle killed me
pure genius!!!
10:27 And then they ate each other...
A Kissing-Zombie Apocalypse!!!!
May Gandalf & Legoland....eh....Legolas save us from this Madness!!!!
That dude has moments of pure heaven, kissing a girl in the middle of crowd where sound is best while Blind Guardian itself is performing one of their most epic parts.
10:27 is NOT what you do at a fucking a Blind Guardian concert!!!!!
das ist sooo geil^^
nächstes Jahr in Wacken, freue mich jetzt schon drauf xD
So much better than the studio version. That one is great as well of course, but a bit too sterile and clinical for my taste.
This one (as a good live performance should), has so much more emotion and feeling, in addition to excellent singing.
You could create a playlist consisting only of this song ;-)
I miss the Part "The War is over, forevermore"
I find the conclusion of this version a lot more dramatic
oh totally! thats the word i was looking for.
Hell yeah, the man's a fucking bard!
omg...thomen is just a beast!
Wow, this is fantastic, the video has a fantastic quality, and also checked your channel and you really support Blind Guardian, I also do it, so thanks xD
Keep up the good taste ;)
The nightmare shall be over now, there's nothing more to fear.
It was pure magi
I feel that something's wrong
Surprise, surprise they're gone
Full moon your time goes by
And new moon's still kept out of sight
We live
We die
When you listen to a song that has all the rights to be called SONG
Impressive.
Under the Ice is the other Illiad song of that album.
10:30 - The most epic sing-along part ever :P nananannanana
The drums are so difficult in this one... It's just too hard to keep a tempo with barely using your high-hut... Thomen is trully a beast
4:19, little andrè!
And so is the battlefield
OBRA MAESTRA!!! NO SE PUEDE DECIR OTRA COSA!
Why isn't there ONE SINGLE FUCKING studio version of this brilliant song on youtube ???
too bad I was 4 and in America to never see this live
Roam in darkness...
Na na na na ,nanana, nanana
The nightmare shall be over now, there is nothing more to fear!
Watch your step cassandra
yeah!!
@PiscatorLager Oh, so this is the bonus track and that's why it's not featured on Imaginations Through the Looking Glass?
@szekelymihai
This one wasn't.
Double true.
I want to cover this but the rest of my band doesn't have the stamina
geat !!!
I think the description for this video is wrong, it fits more "Under the Ice"
E eu li essa porra de Iliada no colégio, pra que!!? Era so ouvir Blind..
while i love blind guardian and this song is awesome and they sound amazing live, i must say, i have been a bit spoiled by the album version. the problem is that they made such an intricate song that the four of them alone couldn't possibly do it full justice. it'd be like one man trying to play an entire symphony live. it won't work out. though they are still amazing enough to be able to pull it off as well as they did. it's amazing live, but not nearly as amazing as how it originally was
FANAANANAANANANAAANANANAAAAA
Anyone notice how he doesn't do all his high powerful notes live? Is his age catching up to him?
Wann lernt Google endlich, dass es auch einzelne Songs gibt, die länger als 10 Minuten sind und man da keine Werbung rein tut? Die essen doch auch das Brötchen mit der Tüte.
